    Check Out My Pearl Jam Playlist! • Pearl Jam
    In this Even Flow guitar lesson video, I will demonstrate in-depth how to play all of the guitar parts of this massive Pearl Jam hit off of their debut album Ten.
    The tuning for both guitars will be dropped "D" tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string D A D G B E.
    Throughout the entire song we have two separate guitar parts that come together to create a very full sound. I will generally show you the lower guitar part first followed by the higher parts, played by Mike McCready that work over it.
    I will go through each section of the song in the order that it appears.
    There are also a few sections of the song that lead guitarist Mike McCready plays a series of fills throughout the verse and at the end of the song. I will tackle those one-by-one.
    I will also show you the album version of his killer guitar solo. I say album version because the official music video for the song had a different solo on it because it was from a live performance.
    I hope you guys enjoy learning this incredibly cool song from the great Pearl Jam! #evenflowguitarlesson #pearljam #guitarcovers

    Carl thank you for this lesson. I am going to learn this song and dedicate it to my auntie that is battling lung cancer that is very severe. I am very sad I don’t know how long she has left. I will post a guitar cover of this song on CZcams and dedicate it to her as it was her favourite song. I pray for her everyday

  • @andydaniels6363

    Thanks for posting this, Carl! The chorus isn’t quite right, though. Gossard (“Guitar 1”) doesn’t play straight power chords for that. There are a couple of passing sus chords played against the B-flat (the “-flow” of “Evenflow“), which are evident when you watch him play. To use the chord shapes that he does, you have to go to an open-D tuning, not just drop-D.

    • @the_instinct3788
      @the_instinct3788 Před 3 lety +4

      I think he doesn’t tune to open D tuning to be easier to teach both guitar parts in order

    • @mango7736
      @mango7736 Před rokem +3

      Those are called ghost notes. Pluck a string while you have your other fingers gently touching the string. It is better to have all your fingers flattened out on the string rather than having just one finger. Don’t push down, just gently touch.

    i hope you demonstrate how to play as a one guitar arrangement thats really the most helpful for me. Its becoming very hard in my area finding people who want to play live. Most bands are guys over 40 which I fall into that category. Im trying to find more songs I can pull off with one guitar and it still sound really full. Im also trying to play more advanced songs for me. I come from the world of reel to reel and rewinding over and over and learning licks by ear. I started by reading a mel bay book and alfred that showed you chords lol and a melody for each string like jingle bells etc lol. I got through about 4 strings and tossed the books and went all ear until tab came out but tab wouldnt be right and not how bands played at on guitar and you would have to change and find what position on guitar you played. If you tube would of been around in late 60s Id of been ecstatic lol. Anyway im lazy now wish teachers would just say hey this is being taught for 1 guitar to play it in 4 piece band.

    That main riff (the part played on the 5th and 6th strings) is harder than it looks because of the unusual, but awesome, playing style of Stone Gossard. I assume he plays the main riff since he's the rhythm guitarist, or is it Mike McCready who plays that part?
