Australians race against time to rescue 150 stranded pilot whales

- Frantic efforts are under way to save hundreds of whales stranded or about to strand off Western Australia.
At least 100 pilot whales are already beached at Toby Inlet near Dunsborough, about 150 miles south of the state capital, Perth. Most are distressed in shallow water as scores of rescuers struggle to refloat them.
The state’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) said that at least 28 whales had died and about 150 more were struggling in shallow waters.
