  • Hi guys!
    This video is about my fantastic experience hiking the Alta Via 1 in the Italian Dolomites with my family. The Alta Via 1 is known as the Dolomites High Route 1 and is one of Italy’s most famous hiking trails. Thanks to their sublime, monumental, and colorful landscapes, these mountains feature some of the most stunning mountain landscapes in the world.
    Hiking the Alta Via 1 is an experience I’ll never forget and something I would recommend for everyone to do - Grazie Dolomiti!
    I really hope you enjoy this video and that it hopefully can be used as an inspiration for your next adventure. Don't forget to leave a comment, like and subscribe for more content in the future!

    Thank you for the awesome video! I’m planning my AV1 for July 2024. I’m curious why you ended the hike after San Sebastiano as opposed to going to Pian de Fontana/La Pissa/Belluno. I have seen others end at Agordo as well. Just curious if there’s a reason the final section is skipped. Thanks again!

      Hi,
      Thanks for your question! Sounds like an amazing idea, it’s incredible. The plan was originally exactly what you write, but due to the weather and a section of cables we chose to finish in Agordo instead. I wish you an amazing tour 🏔️

  • @graemehindshaw4221
    @graemehindshaw4221 Před 2 lety +1

    You exited at Agordo which is 15 miles shy of the 'official' end at La Pissa bus stop. By doing that you miss the spectacular Forcella de Zita Sud just after La Pramperet refugio.

    • @martinbundgaard97
      @martinbundgaard97  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Graeme,
      That’s very true and unfortunate. We were forced to exit at Agordo because of bad weather conditions. Furthermore we were also told that the terrain was very steep and that it would be a challenge for especially my parents to complete it. However I would have wished to complete the whole trip including the Forcella de Zita ⛰

      Thank you very much Charlie,
      Actually I have planned the trip almost myself, but I can definitely recommend the guidebook 'Alta Via 1 - Trekking in the Dolomites' by Cicerone. Here you will find detailed stage descriptions illustrated with clear mapping. There are also comprehensive notes on the huts the route passes, with contact details and tips on facilities available.

    Hi Martin. This is a fantastic video and thanks for sharing your journey. Do you mind sharing how many months ahead you started planning the trip? The rifugios you stayed during this hike look amazing and I heard that they can be booked very early. Thanks for your help.

      Hi Yi-Chun,
      Thank you, Alta Via 1 is outstanding and I’m hoping for you to witness the Dolomites too!
      We started planning this trip half a year before, making the route and connecting it with the refugios. The refugios can be booked very early yes and they can also be very tough to get in contact with as they open up in different times at the year. However it’s just about keep trying and be early out, to catch your spot ⛰

      Hi Kathryn,
      Thank you I’m happy to inspire and hear that! We went last year in July and the weather was changing a lot especially when going on the higher passes. Good question, I’m happy to help you out!
      I would probably try to rearrange the route a little at first and look for other refugios near to the originally planned. Otherwise maybe staying two nights at the same place or pushing through two stages in one day is an option also 💪🏼

    • @lavatoconpirlana
      @lavatoconpirlana Před rokem

      @@ryanc4748 it's suggested to start booking you refuges 6 month prior to your departure, but anyway, let's say you happen to reach a refuge on a stormy night, they have to give you a place to sleep even if they're full, or at least direct you to the nearest refuge (in the first half the refuges can be quite close to each other). You could sleep in the winter bivouac or in the hall if you have a sleeping bag, it depends. Of course they would charge you for that, so it's better to plan ahead. This goes especially for the months of July and August.
