  • How to grow peppers hydroponically | Seed Starting in Rockwool Cubes
    In this video we take a look at the first video in a new series about growing peppers hydroponically by doing some seed starting in rockwool cubes. It is incredibly easy to use rockwool to start your seeds. We are using this method for growing peppers from seed by hydrating the rockwool cubes with hydroponic nutrients and planting the pepper seeds directly in the cubes. Seeds started in this method seem to sprout faster and overall seem healthier than those started in soil. We are looking forward to a great season of growing peppers indoors using this method.

    Thanks for your guidance 😊👍🏼

    As long as it remains a seed and didnt popup as a small plant,you keep them under the light?
    Many people says that hot peppers start in a dark place and when they popup you place them under light.
    Soon I will make my 1st attempt and I want to be correct.

    how'd you transplant to the tower

    • @BackyardEden
      @BackyardEden  Před 9 měsíci

      If you are planting in a hydroponic grow tower you would simply take the seedling in the rockwool and place into the cup of the tower. Carefully making sure that the roots go through the net cup of the tower.

    Hello sir! Do you recommend adding nutrients to the water when germinating? If not, after germination, when should I start adding nutrients and how much should I add?

    • @Dansdailies
      @Dansdailies Před 3 lety +1

      Don’t add anything to the water when germinating seeds. They have everything they need in the seed itself. You can kill/burn the plant if you put nutrients in the water you give to seeds/seedlings. I tested this myself last year.

      you can add a tiny bit of silica as long as your pH and EC stay right

    I've not used rockwool too much, only once or twice I think, but I've heard that it needs to ph balanced during the soak. I think you just kind of showed that it's likely not even necessary. Have you heard about ph-balancing rockwool? Have you seen any adverse affects in any types of seed germination?

    • @BackyardEden
      @BackyardEden  Před 4 lety

      Hello there Brent! I have heard that before but always assumed it had more to do with the ph of the water you were soaking it with. I know that some areas have water that is unbalanced one way or the other and that could need to be addressed. However, I have not had any issues with just opening the package, soaking and sowing seeds. I have about a 95% germination rate even with older seeds. I have started all sorts of seeds using rockwool with no negative effects. Thanks for the question and for watching! Have a great day!

    You shouldn't squeeze rockwool at all, not even a little bit. You can shake it off if you want, but it's not necessary.

    • @BackyardEden
      @BackyardEden  Před 4 lety

      I actually do not worry about ph of the rockwool cubes. I adjust the ph of water/nutrient solution.

  • @JipseeGirl
    @JipseeGirl Před 3 lety +1

    ok... soak cubes and put seeds in. Got it. How about actually talking about what you do next? Darkness? Cover them? Put under light? When do you add nutrients? At what point to transplant? Sheesh... 7 minutes to say, soak cubes and put seeds in...
