Newfoundlanders are good hearted hard workers, and the more we have in Alberta, the better it is.
Nope, those fuckers work here then send their pay checks home removing money from our Alberta economy. And to top it off, the fcukers always vote liberal, which further fcuks Alberta over. Nope, no newfies allowed.
I'm currently in alberta, its snowing and I can't wait to get back to BC. Railway aint gonna work itself though.
@chriswaters2327 I've known enough newfies in my life and have yet to see them build anything that holds together longer than a week or two.
@chriswaters2327 yep, ya got me. Schucks, I sure feel burned, thinking my username was going to be my downfall in a flame war. Newfies are still low I.Q. mooches of Canadian society though so... facts.
@chriswaters2327 immigrants, east-coasters, same thing.
YES THIS IS THE CORRECT ACCENT! I was in a restaurant in Fort McMurray. I was with a newfie. A young waitress from Newfoundland looked at me and in perfect oxford English asked me what I would like to order. She looked over at my co worker from newfoundland and said EY BY' WHADDAYA GIT DA GRUB MATE JIGGS DINNER SHES A STEAMIN WHADDAYA YA? I was floored how bilingual she was.
You know they are from Newfoundland bro😂😂😂 so obv it’s the right accent this is the definition of a simp comment lol
YES, INDEED! Working with 6 coworkers from Newfoundland for 5 years I can definitely notice the accent. 😁👌

As a Canadian guy I would agree, Newsies are awesome, friendly, hard-working people but hold off on the thought of moving here just yet. We have a completely incompetent prime minister and our housing is unaffordable and unavailable just like most of our commodities. . Just saying. Lord tunderin Jesus biy
All of Newfoundland has largely been kept Irish. The entire area called the south shore is called the Irish Loop. About 99% Irish ancestry who have been there since the 1600's. Not all were from the potato famine although many many came there from the potato famine as the ship fare was cheaper and also if they had relatives there already. It is certainly worth a visit - in fact you will feel like it is a part of Ireland. The accents vary all over the Island but the south shore area (Irish Loop) South of St. John's is very distinctive. I'm from St. John's but my family were from tiny ports Calvert (Caplin Bay and Cape Broyle). If you visit, the summers are short... go in August so you can see all the sites but especially the Regatta which is the oldest in North America. The coastline is similar to West Coast of Ireland. Take a good camera for great pics.
Don't. Come february you'll want nothing but to go back.
A lot of Irish blood on the island. Although, I'm only quarter Irish myself (Collins).
That you Phil?@@chadparsons50
Newfies are the BEST people in the world. I wish I was one of them. Friendly and funny as hell. Nothing gets them down.
You can become one - There is a ceremony: eat bologna, kiss a frozen cod, swear an oath, and have a shot of rum. You have to do this on Newfie soil with a group around you. They will tell you how much rum you need to drink to make it official when you are there. To make it more official, buy a little bit of land there as a summer camp or cottage - especially in the outports where it is cheaper or in or around St. John's.
I've lived next door to a Gander Newfie for 31 years years now b'y. Now I talks funny too.
Unless the legion closes unexpectedly... b'y...
How do you know they're never angry when you can't understand a bloody word they say?
I love Newfoundland. I spent 3 weeks there this summer. I found that those that had jobs working with us tourists mostly didn’t use that dialect and weren’t hard to understand at all. But when they talked to each other or we went to the little fishing villages, we were more likely to hear the dialect. Fantastic place, thanks!
They are bilingual! LOLOL! I remember once in a library I bumped into a fellow student and she asked me how many languages I spoke. I was looking up a word in Dr Story's Dictionary at the time so I replied, "Three. English, French and Newfoundland English." LOLOL!
This video took me back to before I was married and hung out with a group of newfies in Toronto. Best bunch of folks and this video is 100 percent accurate. There were many nights that after a few more beers, I couldn't understand a damn thing.
I had a Newf college roommate and this absolutely happens when they meet other Newfs.
I lived in Alberta and kinda got the newfie outta my speech and when my buddy came up the summer for a trip my Alberta friends saw the newfie come out in my speech and they didn't understand a lick of what was spoutin outta my mouth.
I have a rank Native Saskatchewan Irish (perhaps Canadian stereotypical) accent going on. Long story short I can't teach english.
@@kamiskenaw4340 oooof
@@kamiskenaw4340 You "could" teach English. You just "shouldn't".
It's so funny cause I live in AB too and you can always tell a newf accent, even when they think they don't have the accent anymore. Like the guys in this video, how at the beginning they're trying to talk normal, but still SO newfie lol
@@oobaka1967 wrong. U should. Accents are amazing
Newfoundland is divided into "Townies" and "Baymen." The latter can be quite difficult to understand for a non-Newfie. Anyone from out of the province is a "CFA," which stands for "Come from away" or "Come for afar." Some Newfies say a CFA is anyone more than five miles from home with a briefcase. Great sense of humor, and when the rest of the world goes down the tubes, the real Newfies will survive. They grow things, hunt, and fish, and are so used to tough times they are unlikely to notice the end of the world.

@shiphead7266 You will be free to be yourselves again and take care of the CFA problem in your own way.
and the people of Central have very little accent by comparison. And we have some difficulty, at times, to understand the baywops.....but get the overall gist.

Died laughing when they pulled the beers out of their pockets bahahaha
SHHHH! don't tell!
Don' go shart, now !
this is absolutely true, you don't know when a bear would pop out of someone's pocket.
I remember Alpine beer in Nova Scotia…ahhh
Or they come over to your house and drink a bottle of liquor among themselves before they drive off to the club.
I spent a year working in yellowknife, a lot of maritimers and newfoundlanders up there. And I noticed 2 things: first, everybody west of the maritimes assumes everyone east of Ontario is a newfie, they can't tell our accents apart; and second, that as soon as two displaced newfoundlanders get into a room together, this is EXACTLY what happens. I was watching it take place one night shortly after arriving up north and I commented "look at them, they're trying to out-newfie one another!" Dougie turns around and looks at my and says "and I've AHlready wohn b'ys!" And he starts flapping his arms and scratching around like a rooster in a cock fight 😆🤣😅😂
Don’t know where you live but never heard that in my life
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 he's up in Yellowknife, a city close to the arctic in northern Canada
That explains a lot. My Grandparents are from NB. My Mom and I were born in Ontario…but we’ve always been told “we talk funny” I remember thinking…”I speak English right?” 😂 Guess it’s true everyone here can’t tell maritime accents apart.
Dougie? Yes by!
After having spent years working with Newfoundlanders, I think I caught about 33% about what they were talking about. They were having a time though!
y'es best kind
My grandmother always spoke like that and it reminded me of people in the southern US. A lot of people think the Newfoundland accent is basically the Irish accent but it’s absolutely not. It’s a mix of many accents, this is the real way they speak to one another especially around the Bay Area. The entire culture out there is very reminiscent of places in the south like Alabama or Mississippi.
There was an older Newfoundland dialect that was basically an Irish one. But yeah this one sounds more Southern American crossed with Australian
Don’t know where you live but never heard that in my life
Lots of the vocabulary is from Westcountry English
The Maritime provinces are the ambassadors of Canada. Kindest people on the Planet. Kinda like Canada was 50 years ago when we were still kind to each other.
@@steve8803 its not offensive just not necessary. It kinda undermines the whole point of the video. You sounds like a juice arse from the mainland, but they would be kind to ya cause that's what they is and likes us that comes from away.
@@steve8803 what a juice arse. You are the reason why when Canadians travel abroad we must make it clear we are Canadian , but we're not from Toronto.
Lol,... I’ve met a few Newfoundlanders..... depending on where they’re from, or how long they’ve been in northern Ontario, it’s the cutest accent ever! I love their sayings!
The major networks could not even come close to getting to this level of entertainment!
I have witnessed this exact scene a few times on the west coast with friends from Newfoundland.
Sick vid bys, hates going up mainland and having to repeat myself 3 times After every Sentance
I’m half Newfie and I talks like that
I hate having to tell my teacher and my friends what I’m sayin’ when I says “yes b’y” they ask “what does that mean”
I say “I don’t fuckin’ know”
When I was in Toronto I met a Newfie and it was pretty grand.
mickey dicky Bay man here me brother Burgeo as a seal with with a fish by notin grander den cheers ehh been hear far to long fuck by send me home with a Whistle
Sorry, I just felt like I had a stroke reading this.
Matt Galczynski I felt that😂
Proper ting b'y
i always run into a fellow newfie up toronto, funny how it works. we just kinda slowly gauge each other from a distance then a convo sparks haha.
Greatest people to meet in BC Canada, my stepfather had a few from there, when I was young and hay I know you a nufi and both started to talk to each other, it was great I used to understand what was said. I miss my stepdad, I get excited when I meet one of them. Only if I could remember how to talk it, been over 22 years. ,🙌👌 Don't be shy when you get to Vancouver BC, we love you people, one of my bucket list for sure to relearn it again
That “mainlander” there left in the dark is my husband when I took him back to my hometown in Notre Dame Bay for the first time. He said he spent the 10 days there not understanding a word. I was sot (yea that’s a word...for us anyways...lol) down beside him with my next door neighbour on the other side of me and we caught up and chatted for iver a half an hour. My husband said he couldn’t believe that anything either of us said was intelligible. It wasn’t just mutually intelligible, we understood it too (haha, just the Newfoundlander in me coming out...lol). It was pretty cool bringing my husband back home for a week because I needed to unload on as many people as I could how hard he could be to get along with and there I could do it sitting right next to him. That week was good for my mental health (haha, I’m just fooling around with ya). It was a great time though. I miss it something awful.
What
HA HA!! Ya sleeveen.

If you don't get along with your husband how about instead of making it everyone else's problem and dumping your proverbial purse into their laps, you file for a divorce?

Yes I agree. The whole east coast is that way. Remember when 911 happened and all those planes got grounded and they took in all those American passengers into thier home. There is a few videos of this.

I remember a Newfie got hired at the place where I worked.
Never understood a word he said the entire time he was there.
I always asked him if he spoke English, because what he said to me all the time sounded notbing like it.
OMG I am peeing my pants here, this reminds me of a Newfie friend (me being from Nova Scotia but live in Alberta) said to me one time "stay where your at, I'll come where your to". I have been laughing over that remark for about 40 years now. He doesn't understand why. lol Newfie's are great and what a beautiful island. Visit there if you can, you won't regret it.

In Newfoundland you will hear this mainly among older people and from some of the small communities. Not so much in St John's or among the younger folks.I am from Newfoundland.
They be dialectical, remember? I remember when I first went on the internet, I was chatting with a Newfoundlander out in Fort Mac. I asked him if there were a lot of Newfoundlanders out there. He replied, "Tousands!" I laughed and wrote, "Perfect!" Another Newfoundlander, embarrassed, I guess, wrote, "Thousands!" with gritted teeth no doubt. LOLOL! If you have ever taught Newfoundland children to spell in standard English with a mainland English spelling series, you will know what humour is or die from the frustration. From a bright grade 2 child, "Miss, is that "Dear" as in "Dear Mother" or "There" (pronounced "dear") as in "There 'e goes." LOLOL! Crazy times. Read Dr Story et al.'s Dictionary of Newfoundland English for more information on the Newfoundland dialect and vocabulary.
