Fun fact: confinement on diminished rations, aka “bread & water” is still an authorized punishment for lower enlisted ranks aboard US Navy ships. It’s a deterrent and a hard lesson not to screw up.
I have a relative who was unable to attend my wedding and later cross the border after a stay (or2😮).
