Can you describe some things that are different on our VW Ups in Europe?
Hello! Really appreciate your journey with the Up!
The brazilian made VW Up! It's a few centimeters longer to fit a slightly bigger fuel tank and trunk with a traditional metal door (not full glass). The rear windows also roll down like in other cars.
This changes were made to make the Up! a bit more travel friendly, since brazilians travel long distances even if they have a small city car and often carry people in the back.
It's noticeable when you use the car but hard to tell from pictures. Still the same car in terms of platform, powertrain, interior and exterior design.
This is perfect timing. I am building my BMW X5 to go to Alaska soon!

@@ZoefontheMove My girlfriend and I may start recording our adventures in the near future, just with our smartphones though and no diesel heater in our plans. We are planning on idling the car mainly and using a heated blanket if we can get away with it!

man that was super cool. Maybe a bit of an unrelated question, but are you happy with the quality of the tools you used? I noticed they are the Parkside brand, which is also sold in Lidl with relatively good prices, and I have been wondering if they hold up well for projects like yours
Hola! Interesting question! To be honest, they are sufficient for something like this. But if I were to do a van conversion sometime in the future, I would buy something more decent (and accurate).
Awesome video! Just out of curiosity, was there any reason to why you did not remove the back seats for some extra room?
Because I wanted it to be able to quickly convert it back to normal car. The front seat is only 4 bolts.
And another thing I took into consideration, was when you remove the rear seatsa few times and put it back, it is going to rattle over time. My car is completely silent inside on uneven roads 😅
But I must say, I did expect to have more space. Read: less stuff with me.

Het was vooral m'n 2 persoons dubbele winterdeken die veel ruimte innam, voor het geval de dieselkachel én de auto het niet meer zouden doen 😅

My mazda has only 60 cm between the drivers seat and the passenger door, while mattresses usually start with a width of 80cm?

Toffe videos, maar heb wel een vraag waar heb je de bekleding voor de panelen vandaan?
Het heet naaldvilt. Kan je overal kopen. Wel flexibele nemen, anders krijg je het niet mooi om rondingen heen.
If U remove the Seat. Does the Airbag bulb lighting?
Yes. But you can easily reset the airbag light with an OBD2 dongle, after placing the seat back.
Excuse my surely stupid question, but why the power bank for the Diesel heater? To start it, or does it need permanent electricity for its pump?
Because it needs to start up the combustion. That takes a lot of energy. After it's running properly, the power draw drops and is only for the fuel pump and the fan.
Je moet niet met een bijna lege benzinetank rijden want in de bocht staat je pomp dan droog te malen en dan gaat hij dus stuk.
Dat valt wel mee tegenwoordig. Als hij droog staat te maken krijgt de motor geen brandstof meer.
Denk dat er condens bevroren is, en iets stuk gemaakt heeft. Hoe dan ook, hij doet het weer nu!
waarom heb je de achter bank er niet helemaal uitgehaald ? dan heb je veel meer ruimte
Omdat ik dacht dat ik meer ruimte zou hebben, maar m'n dikke 2 persoons winter dekbed nam veel ruimte in.
Wilde ook snel weer terug kunnen naar normale layout. Hoef nu alleen 4 boutjes van de voorstoel te doen om van camper naar auto te gaan.
Why did the heater not run off 12v??
It did, but it needed more than 10 amps that you would get from the accessoiry plug on the Power Station.
So I needed an inverter that would connect to the 230V outlet on the power station, and turned it into 12V again, but now with 20+ amps. The heater had a label on it with >17 Amps.
