Might be an unpopular opinion but I think Respite On The Spitalfields deserves a music video in the future too because it's sung like a story/play and it would be interesting to see that come to life in a visualized music video.

I grew up in an abusive home. No one will ever truly know the pure rage and sadness I keep dammed up inside, only letting it out to a select few people. Even if it's by people that I don't know and likely never will, being told that it's okay to cry and be angry and let it out, is so incredibly moving.

This song is so cathartic for me. I've been angry at an abuser and it feels liberating to be told "it's okay to be angry" versus being told that it's bad for me. Maybe so, but denying his abuse and how it affects me is turning me into a monster and it feels good to let it out sometimes.
Rage is natural and no one’ alive is without it. Hope your anger passes through you not because you suppress it but have fully moved past your history. Stay strong 💪

Rage is a normal feeling. I've just found Ghost and have been using their music to deal with my own rage against my parents for their lack of empathy in regards to my Catholic deconstruction. Deconstruction is painful, and I went through it alone. It took 10 years to muddle through it. And when I was finally at peace with it, I came out to them as a Panthiest (G*d is nature instead of a diety), I got shut down and demonized so hard.
I love Tobias Forge moves! Especially the one during the first "ain't talking about forgiveness" !!

Totally reminds me of motions that King Diamond or Alice Cooper would make, and maybe in some odd way Ronnie James Dio. Also kinda reminds me of Marylin Manson's movements. I'm still shocked this song has been out over a year and only has 5 million plays.

Tobias voice goes really well with 80s rock. He also has that flamboyant quality of rock stars from that era.

A variety of catchy melodies, sick riffs, good singing and a big juicy slab of blasphemy to keep it interesting.

Ghost is not supposed to be upbeat though. The ghost I fell in love with was dark, sinister, and haunting. This is not anything like that. I mean, don't get me wrong, Tobias can do what he wants, and there are people that like the new sound, but for fans of the original ghost sound, it's a big disappointment.

They do have heavier songs such as Con Clavi Con Dio! Ghost doesn’t fit into just one genre of rock! They are still amazing and you should check out Con Clavi Con Dio ❤

Just discovered Ghost today after seeing this clip on Rage. Within an instant I thought "What is this? It's magnificent " looks like I've got lots of Ghost to listen too. What a talented artist. The imagery is incredible also. 👌🏻

Sameee, I thought Mary on a Cross was going to be like every other song popular on Tik Tok that leaves me disappointed but now I'm obsessed with listening to everything.
This is so typically Ghost - first time listening to it I was like 'meh it's ok, not that amazing', then I felt like I had to give it another listen, then I was humming the chorus at work, then it was stuck in my head all day for an entire weekend and now I'm back for probably my 50th watch of this video. There is some dark magic at work here surely... :)

Yeah, it's very peculiar. Ghost has been my favorite band for many years now, and yet my first reaction to every new release is kind of underwhelming, but then I keep listening and the songs always end up growing on me. Spillways especifically is probably my favorite Ghost song at the moment, and I was very dismissive at first.

Human beings were born with a good and dark side and there needs to an integration of both in one’s life, nowadays people often try so hard to be good that they repress their dark side and feel consequently unhappy, this song both sounds good and has a degree of darkness added to it therefore it has that dark positivity that you mentioned which most of us feel when listening to it
This song serves as an example of what happens when you finally integrate and and allow some darkness to be felt
Sort of feels like screaming in a society that forces you to keep quiet all the time

This is fast becoming my favourite Ghost song, which is a tall order with all their great music. I had the pleasure of seeing them August 4th for the first time. Honestly it was life changing!

The difference is that Metallica has meaningful lyrics and doesnt treat their band as simply a bussiness project.

This was my first time listening to Ghost and while I wasn't expecting that voice based on the appearance I love the song and plan to spend the rest of the night checking out others.
some songs are like this, some are a little heavier. Theyre kind of a pop metal band imo.
Definiteley check out Square Hammer and Dance Macabre.
Their older stuff is better in my opinion. Check out their live album Ceremony and Devotion - it gives a nice mix of their albums / songs.

I've got hudge cognitive dissonance when first heard Ghost song (I think it was Rats). But I love this hard rock/heavy metal sound.

@@samjuiced I honestly recommend Cirice as it feels a bit heavier, that and the lyrics and message behind it are so damn genius that I legitimately wrote a paper dissecting it while in high school English.
Year Zero is also fantastic. It’s not all the heavy, I just adore it for having a feeling of absolute scope using a synthesized orchestra and a choir on the level of Gangster’s Paradise.
Rats is also great, that’s one of the more heavy songs as well. That and I can’t get enough of Cardinal Copia frolicking through death and chaos.
Edit: Dance Macabre is written using puns to sound like a pop love song. And it slaps…yeah pretty much everything is good.
Man, I can't believe it took me so long to find this band but when my alt station played Square Hammer I needed to find it. And then started listening to their other work and now I am on a tear to buy the discography of their sweet sweet music.
I can’t put into words how much I love this song. The vocals, backing vocals, piano, guitar, all of it is so amazing. Props to Tobias, he definitely has a one of a kind talent 💕

Thank you. I grew up listening to a little bit of everything, so finding a band that’s not afraid to incorporate so many different styles and influences is a rare treat. I’m not a fan of 80’s hair metal, but Impera has me wanting to re-asses my stance on it. I look forward to seeing wherever Ghost goes from here.

I'm new to Ghost. I'm in my forties, so I have no interest in their personal lives or Twitter feed, I feel bad for not having been there for their conception, but holy hell!! This is awesome! Their songs can get you through the day! Absolutely love this group!
In the few years I've been listening to Ghost, I have to appreciate their embrace of pop in their music, it's like a Satanic Abba and I'm all for it. This, by the way, is an absolute bop.

I agree. As a musician, I find myself singing this song ever single time. Even under my breath. Music completely dominates my life. Not just listening to it, but creating it. I’ve tried every drug on the planet and nothing get me higher than being on stage.

For me it was always I want to go to work and then when everything is done, get to sit down, enjoy a drink, lines, pills etc. But pay for it and get to keep doing it, whereas ie the homless junkie ends up out in the street expiring to heroin or something...

I'm a huge fan of early Ghost, but no matter how many times I listen I just can't get into this album. Almost all the reviews of the album are really positive, so I'm really curious why I don't get the hype. Maybe "pop" dose is a bit too much for me.
