Hey Guys, In this video I am going to show you how to apply Spectral analysis to an aeromagnetic data grid using oasis montaj software.
The Spectral Analysis method applied to aeromagnetic grid data allows calculation of an average depth of the causative magnetic bodies. From the slope of the
linear segment of the spectrum graph, the depth is calculated. Depth is a function of the decay of the spectrum function within a corresponding frequency interval.
In this tutorial your will learn the following:
- How to re-project aeromagnetic data using oasis montaj software
- How to window a grid
- How to plot map for a grid
- How to use the spec file from the spectral analysis in excel to get depth to deeper and shallow magnetic sources.

Using spectral analysis is very ambitious in the literature some people devides the slope to 2 and some to 2pi and some to 4pi. Unfortunately people are misunderstanding and misusing this method. It is not clear how they define the X axis (Wavenumber) units because based on that you should divide the slope to a certain number to 2 or 4pi for example.
@@aziznasuti2690 Yes. It all depends on software being used. For oasis montaj is 4pi
@@AYM9ng Yes I know it is clearly written in the OAsis help manual but still peaple misuse it and surprisingly they got published as well 😴
it is actually depending on the X axis. in Geosoft it is (1/k_unit) if it was (2pi/k_unit) then you needed only to divide the slope by 2.
This is also written in original spector and grant (1970) which they developed the method.

@@aziznasuti2690 People these days just published papers to get point. No quality. Most of them rely on the compute software(brain box) and not much on the theoretical framework of the analysis. If you ask one what is the difference between space domain and frequency domains they wouldn't know. The difference between amplitude and TMI they wouldn't know. Wavelength, X,Y, and Z they wouldn't know. The list go on and so. Many cant verified their work outside oasis montaj software.
