  • Essentially Ellington 2015 FINAL CONCERT
Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra- American Music Program
    Saturday, May 9, 2015
Duke Ellington’s music is at the very heart of America’s 20th-century musical heritage and the core of the rich canon of jazz music. Jazz at Lincoln Center, committed to instilling a broader understanding of this music, created the Essentially Ellington program (EE) during the 1995-96 school year to make Ellington’s music accessible to as many high school musicians as possible and to support the development of their schools’ music programs.

For anyone that enjoyed this, check out the original competition performance. Their first run is cleaner, closer to the original Duke Ellington recording (no Sherman Irby solo in the middle), and is probably the best performance in EE history.

I disagree. I think this one was a little better (with the exception of the lead tpt chops being tired), the soloists were more free as they aren't being judged on this performance and the nerves aren't as high anymore.

2:12 this gives me the feeling as if I just overcame an incredible feat, like finally defeating the final boss of Cuphead(really works with that example) and I’m relaxing in my chair, watching the credits fly by.
