I noticed your cat was mysteriously absent when the threat of the Killer Bunny was on the screen.
Also, this is possibly the _least_ funny Monty Python movie. Try to imagine that. Life of Brian should be next, or possibly the original "And Now For Something Completely Different."

Some people have said that, because the killer of the historian was riding an actual horse, it couldn't have been one of Arthur's knights.

Incidentally, in real life the Spanish Inquisition gave you 30 days notice because they were hoping you'd flee Spain and they could take your house, as their were a money-making scheme by the Spanish crown.
So, *everybody* expected the Spanish Inquisition.
Most people seem to miss the final joke of the movie. They sacked the guy who did the credits at the beginning of the movie, so that's why it's only a black screen with the music at the end.

The reason for the coconuts was because they didn't have enough money for horses. So they improvised.
This should have been a clue to the police and the woman identifying them at the end of the movie. The killer was riding a horse, Arthur and his legions were not!!
If they had the money for real horses but someone thought of the coconut gag they would have done it exactly the same because it's such a ridiculous joke.

John Cleese has also said that no one knew how to ride a horse and they lacked both the time and money for them to learn.
The intermission is a troll of the audience. Intermissions were common enough back then so people would get up and go to the restroom, get snacks, etc. So when the intermission came up, people would start walking down the aisles and headed out and then the short intermission was over so they'd have to all run back to their seats.
My brother (who had already seen it) laughed his ass off when I got up for the intermission, when watching this at the movies my first time.

Wasn't really a troll. It might have ended up like that but the original reason it was stuck in there was because Chapman froze while going over the bridge.
@@inhumanmusic1411 The decision to make the intermission so short is pretty much an entirely different decision from the one to have an intermission in the first place. They might have stuck an intermission in for that reason, but it has basically no bearing on what the original guy said. Yes it was a troll and yes it was effective.
The ending is a troll of themselves, as well. Monty Python was notorious for not knowing how to end a skit. So many ended with a silly toss away line. So the ending of this movie is a, literal, cop out.
This movie was *massive* in the late 70s and early 80s geek/nerd culture. We watched it a bunch of times and went around quoting it all the time. "Help! I'm being repressed!", "It's just a flesh wound.", "He's not to leave, even if you come and get him", "Go away or I will taunt you a second time." (plus several of the taunts), "I got better", "Let me face the peril!", etc. etc. etc.
Yea. In the 7th Sea Roleplaying game one of the rules is that anyone quoting Monty Python gives the GM extra dice to add to NPC rolls to use against players. That is, the game has a Dice Pool that all the players share that they can take dice from and they add dice with good roelplaying but the way you add to the GM pool is the players doing inordinately silly or bad things, which quoting Monty Python is an example :)

So, a few years ago I went to Graceland and also got to tour Elvis' private plane. He had a TV and a VCR on board....and a copy of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

What I love about Monty Python is that they do total slapstick humor and they also do incredibly great sophisticated humor.
They were all impressively educated at Oxford and Cambridge. (Except for Terry Gilliam, who has an impressive background of his own.)

The clapping prisoner is my favorite part of Camelot. He interrupts right on beat and it's just a great mix of terrible and funny. At least he's enjoying the song 🤣🤣🤣

I certainly always am hype to see reactors see the prisoner and hope the video doesn't skip it because it is just a great gag to suddenly switch too. Being on beat as you say just makes it so seamless.
Fun Fact: Before Star Wars in 1977, industry standard was to put the credits before the movie. They tried to force Lucas to conform but he refused, saying it would ruin the immersion. They threatened to sue everyone involved in the movie but Lucas said he would pay all fines and penalties incurred.
Not quite like that... Having ALL the credits at the beginning of the film used to be the standard for decades, but by the 70's the standard had already changed to the one we have nowadays: showing the main credits at the beginning (main actors, producers, director of photography, music composer, editor, writer, director) and then at the very end the whole closing credits. What happened with Star Wars was that Lucas refused to have ANY credits at all at the beginning for the reason you mentioned, but it wasn't even the first time that had happened in all-time classic. As early as in 1941 "Citizen Kane" had already done that.
Lucas was kick out of the directors guild for that . He didn't return to it until thr late 90s
@@shanenolan5625 He wasn't really kicked out, he left the Directors Guild of America after being fined by them, but apparently it wasn't for not placing the credits at the beginning, but for not putting the director's credit especifically. Had he put an "a George Lucas film" before the movie started the DGA wouldn't have done anything to him.
@@Brodehouse They're actually called both ways (opening credits or titles), but opening credits would be the better term since their job is to credit the people that made the movie.
Also it why Luca did most if not his later filming in England.
This is one of the silliest, funniest, most quotable movies ever. I showed this to my grandson when he was about eight and for the next two weeks, he ran around yelling NE!!😂

@@ZamaellLordofMars Back in the late 70's, the Flying Circus was shown by PBS - at midnight on Saturday. My younger brother and I would sneak into the living room to watch, and have to hold pillows over our mouths to muffle the laughter!

The man playing "Patsy" (Arthur's sidekick) is legendary film director Terry Gilliam. Terry was a member of Monty Python from Day One as "the animator", responsible for all the animation sequences. He rarely got any on-screen action - except in this film :)
He also played the Bridgekeeper!

Another CZcams reactor apparently knew the story of the Trojan horse because she once said "Is this some sort of Trojan horse situation?" when she saw what could have been a deceptive plan to get past the protagonists' defenses in a movie, but she didn't make the connection when she saw the giant wooden rabbit in Monty Python And The Holy Grail. Sometimes you know things, but the light bulb just doesn't go on.

There is ONE horse. The historian's killer rides by on it.
There was a horse in the scene where the historian gets killed (that's how you know it wasn't one of Arthur's crew).
During the Black Plague (also known as the Black Death) people did "bring out there dead" to a crew that went about and gathered them then buried them in mass graves.
The Black Plague killed approximately half of Europe's population during the years 1346-1353.
Actually, from the 1100's into the 1600s. It was more understood/controlled by the 1700s.
Love to see a new generation loving Monty Python.

I've seen this movie one hundred times since the 70's ... it's always fun to watch the reaction of people who watch it for the first time.
The confusion and bewilderment on their face is always hilarious.
When I saw this one on a dull summerafternoon with a friend in 1984 aged 14 we never were bewildered. We were rolling over the floor at the first scene and I think we found the blacknight just too much because our stomach was in pain because of all the laughter.
Fun facts: This movie had several cuts before settling on the version we know today. Originally it starts with the "Bring out yer dead" scene.
-They couldn't afford horses (hence the coconuts) or any kind of musical interludes; which is why Prince Harold's escape song is cut off.
-They could only afford to shoot one castle, so they shot the same castle at different angles and sections, to make it look like several castles.
-They could only afford to shoot one castle interior. So they chose the best room and dressed / shot it differently for each scene.
-The *Killer Bunny* is a staple in numerous fantasy games, ranging from tapble top D&D to many JRPGs... Even Minecraft has one!
-Lancelot's run was based on a samurai movie. The actor was not as far as he looked, so they made him run the path several times and spliced it together, to make it look like one big run.
Technically the movie is a *slice of life* story.
We don't get a beginning nor an ending... We just get the middle piece!
The "vorpal rabbit" as it has come to be known (that name taken from Lewis Caroll's the Jabberwocky) has become a huge trope in many fantasy stories and video games as a joke. From the video game Shadow Warrior having a bunch of killer rabbits in one stage, to the MMO World of Warcraft having the rare monthly spawn of the "Darkmoon Rabbit" which is a vicious dangerous little rabbit that takes 20-30 (at least) max level players to defeat.
When I saw that you were reacting to this, the first thing I was looking forward to was seeing your reaction to the rabbit scene, and you did not disappoint.

Watching a couple of millenials trying to comprehend 1970's British satire is worth a thumbs up alone. You MUST do "The Life of Brian" next. The most epic of their movies.

My friends and I saw this at a special midnight showing BEFORE it was in general release (yes, I'm 67 years old). By the time the opening credits were done, many of us in the theater already had sore stomachs from laughing so hard.

Fun Fact: The rabbit was borrowed. The red dye that was used as blood would not come off the rabbit's fur. So when they returned the rabbit the owner was not happy.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus was the name of the comedy TV show starring these guys, so the name Monty Python became that of the troupe. They made several other movies, and I’d recommend any of them if you like this type of humor.
'And Now for Something Completely Different' doesn't really count as a movie, rather a compilation of recreations of sketches from the first series and some new sketches that made it into series 2. it was made in order to try and sell the show to the Americans

Here’s a hint when approaching anything Monty Python: Don’t try to “understand” it much. A lot of it is just random and goofy. They loved throwing things in for no particular reason
The point of a Monty Python sketch is that there isn't one
And definitely don't try to predict it. They made up so much stuff on the spot. Like when John Cleese was playing the enchanter, he, catually, had a more impressive name, but he forgot his line and just said Tim. And they kept it.
I see this with many youngsters nowadays. I wonder if humour has changed and that it has become too literal to understand this kind of humour. Or it is very personal may be. Many who view this on youtube seem to take things literal, are watching what happens and sometimes even judge it as if it is real. Looking for a purpouse.
Firstly, I've never seen a mouth hanging open so much. Secondly, it was fascinating to see you both so puzzled and confused at the start and then slowly surrendering to the zany genius that is Monty Python (a team of 6)
Thirdly, they both have excellent tracts of land!

When I saw that it was Tori and Toy that were reacting to this, I couldn't wait until the 'famous historian's' death scene. The sword chop to the neck and how it comes out of nowhere... 😂 Oh, and Toy's "Oh my tummy" line when the French were dumping their toilets onto them at the end... Priceless!!

The enchanter was supposed to have a long, complicated name but on the day of filming John Cleese forgot what it was, improvised the name 'Tim' and the rest of the cast rolled with it
Cleese also almost fell off that mountain because it was windy 😅

Did you know that the fight with the Black Knight was also improvised? Graham Chapman just happened to land an actual dismembering blow, enjoyed it enough to continue cutting off limbs, and the director liked it so much, he decided to leave it in!
I love the coconut horse gag. It gets every reaction viewer, every time. And lets you know right out the gate you’re in for a wild ride.
There was one horse when the knight attacked the historian. He was the same actor that did not want to get on the cart who said "I feel happy"...

My favorite part about the frenchmen is that whenever the leader speaks french to the other frenchmen they don't seem to understand him, they say "what?", but then he repeats himself in english and they all say "oh!"
I love this movie. I think I watch it maybe two or three times each year, I've probably watched it over fifty times. All my friends and I know it by heart and will often break into lines from the film, especially when the beers start to flow . What's particularly funny is watching the uninitiated discover Monty Python for the first time! 😅 Thank you ladies.

in the monk scene tpwards the beginning, it was rumored (at least back in the 90s) that all the monks pranked one of them so that one of them was actually hitting himself on the head... if you look closely, you can see one of them stumble as they pan out

They made 4 movies, “Monty Python and The Quest for the Holy Grail.” “Monty Pythons The Life of Brian” - considered by most as the funniest movie ever made. “The Meaning of Life” and “Now for Something Completely Different.” Which was a series of the best comedy sketches from their English TV show of the same name. The movie contains the world famous hilarious sketches, “The Dead Parrot” “The Cheese Shop” and “The Argument” also “The Lumberjack sketch/Song” they also made a film of their live performance at the Hollywood Bowl. 36:36 I took a class at work where the instructor used sound bites from this scene during the quizzes. If we got a question right, we’d hear “off you go then”; if wrong “blue no green aaaaahhhh”. Of course for me, being somewhat colorblind, answering my favorite color is not easy. It’s easier for me to tell you the capital of Assyria (Nineveh (or Mosul as it’s known today) if you were wondering.
Monty Python is a British comedy group from the 70's, they used to have a comedy show called Monty Pythons Flying Circus that ran on PBS in America many years ago. They are all crazy, and most of it makes no sense, but it is funny. And they rode fake horses because the budget for the movie was so small they could not afford real horses.
There is a lot of mention of lack of budget for actual horses. Yes that is true but also all the extras and stunt people to ride them since I don’t think John Cleese or Eric Idle or Michael Pallin or Terry Gilliam were equestrians. Not to mention the insurance but I wouldn’t be surprised if the coconut idea was original regardless of budget. Real horses were not funny like skipping along whilst clicking coconuts together.

It was done for a budgetary reason, as the movie couldn't afford real horses. As explained by John Cleese, Michael Palin came up with the idea of subbing in the real thing with coconut-derived sounds, creating a funny way to save money.

That scene is such a great and funny nod to the flagellant monks of the Middle Ages.
Back in the 70s and 80s, art house theaters used to show this as a double feature with Blazing Saddles

This is one of the only Medieval documentaries to use actual archival film footage from the Middle Ages and European Swallows and an actual historian, well it briefly had an actual historian.

I'm certain that there's a deleted scene or alternate ending, possibly in the DVD extras, where after the army appears out of nowhere Bedevere turns to Arthur with a puzzled look and Arthur nonchalantly says "Well, I AM a King, you know!"
As someone brought up on Monty Python (GenX UK), this was my favourite Holy Grail reaction by far! Loved the acceptance of the silliness and how quick you both were at getting the subtext in so many scenes 😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
That has to be one of the best reactions to this movie I've ever seen. Right till the very end, when the two of you (coincidentally) sang together in unison: "Run To The Movies". I've never seen a reactor laugh as hard, and throughout the movie, as much as Toy did, right from the beginning. The killer rabbit scene......it was like watching myself watch it for the first time! You HAVE to do their next movie, "Life Of Brian", which is a masterpiece. And their last movie, "The Meaning Of Life" is also worth doing, although most of us think either Holy Grail or Life Of Brian are their best movies. And they started as a wild, groundbreaking TV series, half-hour a piece. At the very least, Toy should watch the classic series off the channel because she is most obviously, definitely an instant Python fan! Not that both of you guys were great in this reaction! I always love your reactions, always a real fun time.
Movies did commonly have the credits at the beginning of the movie up until the 70's or 80's. George Lucas was actually fined for forcing his director to put the credits at the end in The Empire Strikes Back.

"I fart in your general direction" was a classic line that we would say to each other back in high school. Before I ever saw this movie, I had several of my friends act out the whole movie one night while we were camping out. The movie was even funnier after I saw my friends act it out first.
