    For all of us who worked for Northwest airlines, it truly will always, be depressing to not see the 747.

    While at work, I watched her on Plane Finder as she crossed the British Columbia coast and then all the way across the continent. When I saw the set-up turn near Flint, I left work and drove a half mile to the Menards parking lot in Livonia, grabbed my binoculars and waited. I watched her drop out of the haze and drift down toward 22R before I lost sight just after the landing gear came down. I am so glad to have found this video that picked it up from there! Thanks for posting mtrain999! 747s have been a part of my life since I was a little kid and we lived in Hawaii right near HNL. So sad to see them fading away! A trip to Germany or England will need to happen before they go away for good.

    This Is very depressing for me. Long story short. I flew on a Northwest B747-400 from AMS-DTW back in November of 2008. That was nine years ago, and man those nine years flew by quick! I thought 2008 was yesterday! Now seeing this almost a decade later, I feel very sad, but blessed that I have flown on a former nwa 747. Long live the Queen of The Skies!

      Nick JS same here. Flew DTW-NGO on northwest in 2008. Where has the last 10 years gone. Sad to see this bird go. Probably been rode this bird about 20 times in the last 10 years. Last on it in October and I knew it was gonna be the last time. Going DTW-PVG next month and it’s on the 777 now...

    I was just a small kid when the first Boeing 747-100 (Pan Am) touched down at DTW. My parents took me to see it land and to go inside (which we gave up after the long line exceeded what we were willing to wait....lol). I completely forgot about the last one (last week)...I certainly would've went. Nice to see it was well attended. So long to a legend!

    What a good landing to top it all off, sad that it's the last one here in DTW!

    Very sad to see the retirement of the greatest airplane ever built! 747s had an amazing run, but just can't compete with the latest technologies and equipment. At least British Airways still flies them for now.

    Holy cow that was a late landing! Great catch man! You can hear the surveillance radar blips in the background too :)

    • @MTAviationPhotoFilm
      @MTAviationPhotoFilm  Před 6 lety +1

      Idk if you can hear it in the video or not but they asked if they could roll to the end. And is that what that noise is? I thought the mic I bought was messed up but then again I think it does only do that in the vids from the hill

    • @tengoindiamike
      @tengoindiamike Před 6 lety

      mtrain999 Nope didn’t hear them say that, I’ll have to play it later. Makes sense you can hear it on the hill since you are more or less line of site with that radar off Wayne road

    • @MTAviationPhotoFilm
      @MTAviationPhotoFilm  Před 6 lety

      Yeah you may not be able to. I will have to work on it. I keep my transceiver on my tripod under the camera and has a directional mic so I don't think it picks it but since its behind where the mic points

    • @MTAviationPhotoFilm
      @MTAviationPhotoFilm  Před 6 lety

      I guess it is the mic. I just watched a video I took from the ramp and it still makes that noise. It was only a $20 camera. I just wanted to see if it would get rid of the wind noise and was worth using a camera while spotting. Ill probably upgrade and get a good one sometime soon

    Where was this taken at? I swear I’ve been spotting at/near this location. I also came to DTW to spot this, a first for me in 2.5 years! I went to to North terminal parking garage, brought all my gear and a couple aviation friends and forgot my bloody memory card! (I caught it on my phone however). Btw how do I get involved with the Facebook group chat? (I’m the owner of Detroit Plane Spotting.)

    Hey there,
    Do you know any good areas to park a car for plane spotting outside the airport on the north and south side? I know that this was taken on the north... but I don’t know where to park without getting in trouble.
    Thanks!

    • @MTAviationPhotoFilm
      @MTAviationPhotoFilm  Před 6 lety

      This is a spot you really should go to since there are no parking and stopping signs lining the road. You have to time it so you get there when the plane is turning final and jump out, get it and leave before the police come. There are a lot of little turn offs you can park in on Wick road where no one will bother you if you are trying to take pics. That's where most people go for pics when they are landing 22L/R

    We were all wondering if he was gonna abort on very short final, as he was really holding back on putting her down.

    • @MTAviationPhotoFilm
      @MTAviationPhotoFilm  Před 6 lety

      I think they planned on landing like that since he asked tower if they could use the whole runway and roll to the end while they were on short final
