A spring 2014 Dual sport BC ride up the West Harrison FSR. A Ural Gear up, a couple of KLR650s and a pair of KTM 990/950s take on the trails. Good times had by all.
Great video and good on you for taking the time to help out some new DS riders. I own a KLR650, Ural GU and a KTM 1190 Adv R. I have always appreciated learning from more experienced riders! Look forward to your future videos. Oh and to the posters below you have added nothing to the conversation belittling those that are trying out this great sport.
hey guys ...Russ from New Hampshire here...looks like you have some fantastic riding there in B.C......off road on a big bike is definitely a game of momentum and standing up on the pegs....its something the newer riders have to learn...I have to hand it to you all on your patience given to the newbies ....nicely done to all....
I enjoyed the video and your wonderful patience,, I would like to head up that way some day, maybe I'll see you out there, oh..look out, everyone move over its a trail 90'. That was my favorite part, keep up the nice work. Thanks!
Your patience with the KLR guys is commendable. I was getting ticked off with them just watching the video. But they learned a great deal that day. None of us were born able to trail ride. We all learned through trial and error. You helped them on their learning curve. The Ural turns out to be a great trail machine. Not fast but then neither am I. BTW, well edited video.
Really great video again, the diary approach instead of just the highlights like most other videos really shows us what a trip would be like in its entirety, with loads of great advice, etiquette and tips in there. Patience and fitness seems to be the name of the game at some points! (7mins ->16mins)
I thought you done a great job. It's kinda like paying it forward with the guys you helped if they stick in there someday could help someone else. It's called adventure riding and from my perspective you had a great adventure. Of coarse setting here watching its easy to say what someone else would of done and I admit I was in total suspense wondering when someone was going over the edge and was happy when it didn't happen. Great job. Thanks for taking is along.
Really appreciate your personality. Constant positive attitude and efforts with the riders of various abilities. Posing Hearing A Canadian's voice made miss my old home. I watched it on my big TV and your camera quality really shows through. The mixture of KLR, KTM and the Ural was a treat. I'll look for more of your videos Best, Fred
Awesome scenery and roads... and the sound of that 990! I felt your frustrations though... "clutch"..."stand up"... haha. Theyre probably pro's by now :)
7:00 It's hard to appreciate the grade on that hill viewed from a camera lens. Years ago my old Toyota overheated right after making it up this hill. Nice job everyone!
Nice vid. Beautiful scenery , I have only been part way myself. Just as great is how the more experienced guys handled the less experienced riders. Everyone has a certain skill level and deserves to be able to learn. Not cool the people dissing here on those guys. If I'm not mistaken I don't recognise you from your Dakar profiles. Great on you guys for treating everyone and the group well.
If I right the Ural was originally a BMW motorcycle and the factory was disasembled after WW2 in Germany by the Russians and moved to the USSR.So the Ural combo would be the same one used by the German army with machine gun mounted on the side car.
those 2 are over their head! they need to work on their clutch control before they go off road lol. Get the damn backpack off him its throwing his balance off too , your a patient man !
Yeah, that was a lil painful to watch...lol . I agree with the guys saying the klr riders need some more practice.. But good on ya! Just might want to edit out some of that stuff a lil more next time & it would make it easier to watch. Be safe out there!
I found this as I am researching just WHAT bike to get. I looked at the Urals today and am even more impressed. The biggest negative I see is the "un" _motorcycle riding. Then again, sometimes that would be good!? after your trip, what do YOIU think? I am kinda between a Ural or a KTM. hmmm.
first i'd like to tell you how much i like your videos, the trails and stunning nature you have in canada is unbelievable. but i have some suggestions for your future videos: the loudness difference between the voice-over passages and the audio recorded by the camera is really high, maybe you could even those out. i really had a hard time watching the klr riders struggle, especially up that long incline. maybe you could spend an afternoon teaching them the basics of offroad riding, especially how to properly positon yourself on the bike (standing up, of course) and how to ride slow standing up. i was on an enduro-riding course with my 990adv yesterday all day and you wouldn't believe how much progress i made (starting from minimal offroad experience).
I've got a klr and I totally agree. haha They are pretty tall of a bike but dude they are not that hard to drive. Them things will go through almost anything.
Definitely not beginners trail... Those guys needed a lot more seat time... Great video though, you were very patient... Nice to know how tough my klr is though. :-)
I see you are Canadian as well. I live in just outside of Cranbrook, in the Wychiff area back in 91'. I bought a 83' Yamaha 850 Special while I was their. I took that bike up an old mining exploration road that started at Wasa Creek. I got up to about 6000 Ft before there was simply no more power. Met some big horn sheep while I was resting close to the top. Going up the mountain was not as scary as going down the mountain.
Thanks for the great video, very enjoyable.I was wondering how much time is required for this run?Say from sasquatch Inn to Pemberton? Thanks in advance!!
+Nick Livers way too high, JMHO. Check the OTD prices for new ones... Just by riding a new bike off the dealer's lot dropps FMV, fair market value by say 15-20%. Had a XR 650 and a XL 600 , never a KLR. Got the XR 650 from a neighbor for $ 700, but it was 2 decades old.
+The Vancouverite Check out Dual sport BC. Big fall ride this Sunday. I wont be there but lots of guys from the crew will! www.dualsportbc.com/forums/showthread.php?14633-2015-Fall-Newbie-Ride-Adventure-quot-C-quot-EZ-Route
When guys are doing the same thing over and over again and hoping to have different result - that is the definition of insanity. No gas / clutch control at all. How did they pass exam ??? Sitting on their fat arses and not standing up on pegs - while you are sweating and pushing them around ..... it was difficult to watch . I salute your patience - but for novices they should practice somewhere safe ( park, quarry, meadow ...), because that trip could turn much ,much worse for them. Thanks for posting .....
IS it really necessary to have 900cc? Thats ALOT of extra weight and its no t like you are going to use any of that power. Thats just showing of jaja but I gues its nice if you have the money. You would have fallen so many times in a 250cc.
The ktm 950 is about 198kg. That around the weight of lots of the 650 adventure bikes to. That's why ktm are expensive. You get the handling of a 450, the weight of a 650 and the power of a 950.
You have the patience of a Saint!! LOL Thanks for including all the trials and tribulations of your adventure.
Man, you have some serious patience dealing with those newer riders!
This is the way to get new riders out there. Dual sport B.C.has experienced riders to help the Newbies. Its great to see.
Good for you guys having the patients to help some newbs. Great video

It is painful to watch just the same. We have all been there.
Great to see everyone helping each other . Cheers from Australia
That Trail 90 owning that hill was epic. It drove home that skill and practice is where it is at.
You have 10 times the patience I could ever muster.
Meeting/riding with new folks is always a gamble. Good marks for staying positive with those guys....
great to see that ur helping out less experienced riders and not getting frustrated and exploding when they stall every 5 metres

I remember when back in the 70s when we all went trail riding everyone helped everyone and no one said anything bad about anyone.About 14 at the time
Great commentary. Thanks!
Awesome scenery and roads... and the sound of that 990!
I felt your frustrations though... "clutch"..."stand up"... haha. Theyre probably pro's by now :)

that was very enjoyable to watch, keep making them
Thanks for the ride. It was like I was right there with you.
Awesome road to Drive. Did it Twice, once in a 96 Mazda 626 5 Speed.
You did a good job staying upbeat and not yelling at them to stay on the FU**ING GAS !! like I would have been..Good job!
The ural looks so fun to drive :D great paintjob...
I my country most of these roads have a driving ban...would live to drive lil bit offroad.
You are really really patient. I would have only lasted maybe 10 minutes. Good on ya for being a better person than me lol.
Great video! looking forward to more.
Brilliant post, thanks guy's
Urals at the top of the hill eating a sandwich and cup of coffee
he was part mountain goat. very nice Gobi
jjajajajja 😂

ADV + fitness: winning combo! My main reason for getting in shape was to be able to lift my KLR when I crash
Hoping to do the full stretch of this route this year! We'll see...
Ural for the win on that trail !!!
Oh my god, the guy always tried to move in 2nd gear and no one told him dude put the bike in 1st gear.
Anyway I enjoyed watching your video buddy
"A tire discussion can break out anytime" :)
Great patience. I was kinda scared for the KLR guys.
Great entertainment , enjoyed it

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD?
IT WANTED TO OWN A KLR650 IN THE PROCESS!🍗
Great ride.... The two KLR guys would have been fine if they had kept moving and got up on the pegs. Looking forward to some 2015 videos.
Mesmerizing!
You should take the G650 XChallenge into the title 😁
those 2 are over their head! they need to work on their clutch control before they go off road lol. Get the damn backpack off him its throwing his balance off too , your a patient man !
That looks fun, maybe I should try mudding with my Ninja 250
Yeah, that was a lil painful to watch...lol . I agree with the guys saying the klr riders need some more practice.. But good on ya! Just might want to edit out some of that stuff a lil more next time & it would make it easier to watch.

Now that was an adventure lol

+themole85 that was painful to watch and caused some frustration at the rider letting the engine stall. And stall. And stall again and again.
you guy need to go to dirt bike park and practice before atempting them trails someones going to get hurt dude on the trail 90 was having no probs lol
i may have bumped into you guys one time at the ridge run in chilliwack.
Cool! which ridge run? what were you riding?
the klr riders are sad to watch, they don't the bike justice at all, you can tractor your way up that hill blindfolded.
I've got a klr and I totally agree. haha They are pretty tall of a bike but dude they are not that hard to drive. Them things will go through almost anything.
I
The KLR guys would benefit from a few more teeth on rear sprocket.
Definitely not beginners trail... Those guys needed a lot more seat time... Great video though, you were very patient... Nice to know how tough my klr is though. :-)
That's a dangerous place for such novice riders, good effort on your part!
+The Toe Cutter Thanks! I'm a fan of trial by fire teaching.
Nothing quite like the immanent very of death! Happy trails!

captain waggy depends how many KLR's you are pushing up the hills. I would allow for four hours on a big bike.
Can I get you opinion? 2008 KLR650 with 11,000 miles and apparently new tires. The guy is asking $3,400.
+Nick Livers way too high, JMHO. Check the OTD prices for new ones... Just by riding a new bike off the dealer's lot dropps FMV, fair market value by say 15-20%.

Awesome ride...any plans for another?
***** Keep an eye on DSBC forums!
Drop one tooth down on those KLR's C/S. Sure make a better bike off road. Nice vid.
Acted like they were one tooth up over stock. Mine is stock gears and it works well off-road.
I'm guessing Canada ?! Jesus those two guys are newbies !! That can get frustrating !!!
@ wheelers are geared for the highway rite?
Man, that was hard to watch. In way over their heads and two watch one do most of the helping. I would ride alone.
Hey nice video. Id love to ride with you guys one day, looks like a blast. Planning any rides before winter hits?

+UnsightedADV Hey thanks for the heads up, i went for the ride and it was a blast! Would of missed it if you didn't say anything! Cheers.

I don't wanna hate on them but you should at least be able to start on a hill before trying something difficult for yourself. But A+ for the effort ;)
He is starting in 2gear all the time, the guy in red
yeah his engine was in a very low rpm and no torque at all
KLR is cools
I was on the fence about getting a new or used KLR. Not anymore those poor clutches.
They sure took some punishment.....
How far ahead did you have to plan this trip?
no more then a few days. this one was just a one day ride.
Oh Ok. Thanks.
I'd ride with you guys
Ural wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Kalinowski Sadly... The Ural suffered a catastrophic failure on the way home when a chunk of slag let lose in the engine and blew it up.
IS it really necessary to have 900cc? Thats ALOT of extra weight and its no t like you are going to use any of that power. Thats just showing of jaja but I gues its nice if you have the money. You would have fallen so many times in a 250cc.

That's why ktm are expensive. You get the handling of a 450, the weight of a 650 and the power of a 950.
beautiful and painful to watch ......... a man needs to know his limitations
my god...
зачем с такими чайниками соваться в горы?
Reving to much makes it hard to control wheels will spin to much just take it easy
Trails? I wouldn't even call this off-roading. Nice bikes though..
City boys on city bikes trying a country trail. HAHAHA!
KLR is hardly a city bike
@@shanechambers9529 My mistake, sorry. Don't know why I called any of them city bikes. I guess adventure bikes is a better term.
@@grumpyartist9416 you right
I would have left those rookies, sorry but they don’t belong on a ride like that
those guys need a little practice....
not a place for beginners you need to start on easier trails
+OU8121ST Trial by fire!
+OU8121ST that was hard to watch. I agree
These guys got no business on that road with those bikes with their lack of skill
