    My buddy, who has his own shop with a hoist installed this kit on my 2004 Sierra 1500 today. Typically with parts that can go together in either of two ways, you need to figure out which way is the right way. Once that was decided, it went together really quickly.
    I used Superzilla penetrating fluid on the snubber bolts about 4 days ago and they broke free with a box wrench. I covered the air lines with 3/8" fuel line to prevent any chafing and the frame. I used the "T" fitting so I only needed one Schrader valve. With 25 lbs of air pressure it raised the bed about 1". Perfect. The ride is a little stiffer, but worth it. He also tightened the torsion bar bolts and raised the front about 3/4". Perfect.

    Air bags do make a huge difference. The problem is that they do nothing to put the weight back on the front end. The rear axle is still acting as a fulcrum, lifting the front end. To get the weight back on the front axles requires the use of a weight distribution hitch. Running both bags and distribution hitch are the perfect combination.

    • @racer72
      @racer72 Před rokem +3

      I was just going to say the same thing. Plus towing something that sits that high would be susceptible to swaying in high winds, the weight distribution hitch will help a lot. I just towed through Eastern Washington during some gusty winds with my travel trailer, I had zero sway issues. Watched other deposit little green bricks in their shorts, a couple people were waiting out the wind at a rest stop.

    My hats off to you putting the video together, and air assist springs do have their place, BUT, while they do lift the rear of the truck body and keep the hitch from dragging, they do not shift the weight to the front wheels (see extra comment at end) . A lot of people think that a bigger truck, with heaver springs in the rear, some how moves the weight forward. The bigger the truck, and the heavier the front end, the less it matters. The only way to move the weight forward is less distance between the hitch and rear axel or using a load (re) distribution hitch. I see some trucks with really long hitches (they should be a short as possible, A longer truck is better also. Shorter beds often have less "overhang". You will notice that some USV's have a rear axel that is very far aft. This is good for towing and where where spring are most useful. Fifth wheel hitches have zero (or negative) overhang. Last point, For a single axel trailer, load assists do little to improve handling. For dual axel trailers, as the hitch is raised, more weight shifts to the rear axle (even if just a little) . This has two effects 1) it moves the trailers "effective" axle to the rear making the trailer more stable (same as moving the load forward) and 2) it adds more hitch load - which winds up reducing the truck front wheel load. The increased stability of the trailer is more important to handling. If you are struggling to improve stability - you really need to move the hitch forward (if possible) or get a weight re-distribution hitch or a bigger (heavier all the way around) truck which simply overpowers a poor weight/hitch/vehicle geometry. I also think stability is improved by running the highest tire pressures you can.

    Love the video. I use a weight-distribution system when I tow. However, I will be putting the bags to improve the ride height when I take a mototote brand motorcycle carrier on my 03 z71 sierra fitted with a 1k tongue weight capacity hitch. I am planning to transport my 800lbs stripped-down road king. The saddles and other times will be traveling on the rear seat of my extended cab.

Go with Timbrens, and Roadmaster Active Suspension! So nice for heavy loads, or empty! No maintenance ever. nothing to adjust, nothing to leak air, and its an easy install!
