- Another trailer has dropped for #Mechwarrior5Clans, and this time it gives us an insight into a bit more of the storyline, as well as a few brief glimpses of gameplay.
We also got its release date, which is pretty awesome.
So, I'm pretty excited overall. And let's go over what we learned, and what I'm hyped for. A link to the trailer will be in the top pinned comment.

"the engine has been upgraded"
yeah duh, we know the Clans have their busted XL engines on all their fancy stuff
well played sir.
“You play as the Clans.”
Ok, not bad.
“The trailer has the Jaguars shit on the Kuritans.”
SAY NO MORE, SOLD.
-Me, a Davion fan.
Even as a Draconis Combine fan I look forward to playing as a Clanner for a change. Can't wait to slaughter some Inners with a Mad Dog!
We get to re-fight Battle of Luthien, I’m going to be torn. On the one hand, going after Takashi will be a BLAST…on the other, that means taking out Shin, and I like that guy
According to Russ Bullock (as stated in the most recent episode of “The Valhalla Club” podcast), there are choices within the game that make it so you will have to play it twice to see the entirety of the scope of the gameplay.
Well, I really do hope that the """good guy""" path that involves defecting isn't the one where all the development budget goes to.
@@Xhaleon I have been wracking my brain as to what the diverging point in the game would be. Like you, I really hope that it is not as simplistic as: “bad guy” stays with jags/“good guy” defects from jags. Since Russ said that the game would go to at least Luthien, only real divergent points prior to that would be either choosing to be a warden instead of a crusader, or maybe getting bonded by the Nova Cats when they are added to the invasion corridor.
@@LiberalApplicationOfThudmaybe a tie in to MW5 Mercs has the MW5 Clans characters, or some of them, get beaten by commander Mason, and are forced by their honour to serve him as bondsman, they however eventually find out about his clan heritage and mellow and begin to learn more about the IS?
Thats the only way I could see Trueborn Smoke Jags possibly turning good. It would have to be a jeourney, not a heel face turn.
And it would be a nice way to tie the two games together to lean into the invasion clan era for future Mercs DLC
@@Xhaleon I would prefer a path where post 3052, your campaign can progress to Port Arthur and face Operation Bulldog, or get reassigned to Huntress and experience Operation Serpent from the Jaguar point of view depending on actions you undertake during the Clan Invasion phase of the campaign up through the 3052 debacle.
Followed by a DLC campaign that expands the branches out to either Cermak (Deep Periphery), Tranquil (Kerensky Cluster) or Strana Mechty (Kerensky Cluster), or possibly all three depending on your performance and timeline.
Players of the previous Batltetech videogames will have a huge treat with these expansions / DLCs.
Best case this game ends in our death on Tukayyid or Luthien. Lol
Or getting stomped by the second Star League on Huntress.
That's guaranteed at some point, but obviously the real climax of the narrative will have your Character doing something way more heroic because Executives don't understand that all the best Epics and Novels used to end in tragedies
@@iller3 So, the player characters become Fidelis? Does that mean we're getting our first Jiha... I mean Word of Blake *Kerfuffle* era DLC?
@marcellinma6169 figure you could join the remnants that fled during forever faithful, and then you could fight to help stop the scorpions that'd probably be where I would end it,if we're doing that.
Can't wait to serve Khan Leo 'Golden' Showers and Clan Smoked Jaguar!
😅
💀
I want to play the destruction of Turtle Bay from the Clan perspective!
The player MIGHT get a front seat view if there is a mission which is to ostensibly suppress the uprising, but the objectives to change during the mission for you to either reach an extraction point, or better yet, experience friendly fire from Naval Lasers that are too close for comfort, and be able to survive to talk about it.

Bit of a pipedream but it would be interesting if you owned both MW 5 Mercenaries and MW 5 Clans you got access to a secondary campaign after beating the primary one. This secondary one picking up where you left off in Mercs. Highly unlikely but it would be nice to be able to play as either side in the same game. Especially with how new I am to the setting,MW 5 Clans with be my first time with the clans. And I do want to see both sides of the invasion for variety.
Agreed. Maybe have it so Mason is instrumental in securing LosTech for the Inners to fight against the Clans?
Fascists fighting fascists. We are the baddies.
I love a target rich environment
"Hans...are we the baddies?"
@@NodDisciple1 That's what Kurita and Smoke Jaguar should be asking.
In Battletech you always are the baddie.
It's part of the fun of this series. I love that Star Trek or even the Expanse sheds hope on the future of humanity. But... Battletech has a brutal realism to it about the selfishness and idiocy of humanity. And I love that. Sometimes we need dark series.
The Smoke Jaguars are even better Saturday morning cartoon villains than the Jade Falcons are and I love them for it. I'd be pleased as punch if we get to do any two of the following six things. Witness the atrocity on Turtle Bay, participate in the disaster on Wolcott, invade Luthien, lose on Tukayyid, get rolled by Operation Bulldog, and hopefully die with great honor on Huntress.
I want this game to have a tragic ending where everyone dies due to the ignorant bullheadedness of the Jaguar leadership so danged bad that I can taste it.
Imagine not understanding that The Clans are actually the good guys in the Battletech Universe, coming to save the Inner Sphere from itself.
Really looking forward to this. The first CD game I got for my Pentium 100 PC running dos as my operating system , I didn't even have windows! Was Mechwarrior 2, just loved the cinematics and running the Mad Cat in game. I cannot wait to get my hands on this. I just wish we could get some 1/18 scale action figures of the mecha like the ones Joy Toy make. I like the miniatures and all but I don't have time or patience to paint them. So I would love to have my favourite mechs as action figures between 5-10 inches high. But I am really excited for this games tbh.
Same here. I played it with my brother. He controlled the legs, I controlled the head. Good old times....
Looking forward to piloting a Timber Wolf that has its missile pods. They're too big a target to use them in Mechwarrior Online.
Says the guy in a walking tank.
@@a15godzilla Every player in that game is in a walking tank 😜
Yeah... only thing I don't like about the Timber Wolf, everything on it is a fairly big target. And it doesn't help that the cockpit is lower than the launchers when trying to peek from cover.
One important reason that I run the Mad Dog over it.
Playing as Smoke Jaguar is a bit of a downside to me as they're my most disliked Clan, and near the bottom of my overall factions list. BUT.... I'm not MUCH more of a fan of Jade Falcon, and I enjoyed the Jade Falcon campaign in MW2, so that's not going to kill it for me. BUUUUUT... the fact that they're going up against my second-least-favorite Great House is a huge plus. :P
It's the only Clan where players of Mechwarrior get to actually play consistently with the character of the clan.
C'mon, who doesn't play MW in any form without gleefully commiting interstellar war crimes by wrecking havoc on entire cities and stomping on civilian vehicles?
You might be surprised, it's a change. I am a wolf, but you know what it might be nice seeing the story from their perspective.
@@Dazzxp Oh, there's no real worry. I may not like Smoke Jaguar, but I AM a member of the Brotherhood of the Divine Autocannon. ;)
@@Dazzxp For what its worth, the warden Wolves are my favorite Clan and third favorite overall faction.
See i like the idea of playing the Smoke Jaguars. My hope (which this latest trailer has not changed) is that the Devs will be milking the Pathos of the Smoke Jaguar story.
It was Smoke Jaguar who started the invasion era, and (presumably with DLC) their destruction marked its end
After playing through the grindy pre generated universe and seeing what PGI was capable of with the dlc or some mission lines i am more than excited to play a more bespoke and structured campaign.
I just hope there's lore dumps for newbies like me to catch up on for the Clans that I can go back to search for in other media to compare how the clans perceive things vs the Houses and the Sphere.
I've made a lot of content if that helps XD
@@BigRed40TECH yeah, I've been going through it quite a bit, too. I especially loved the Stone Rhino and Mauler videos... The Mauler 'Mech being my favorite so far. However, MW5 left me kinda barren on the lore front, and I'd like to see it in-game as well as out of game.
@@FosforitoDuracell Plans are to do another Jaguar mech before the game comes out. :)
Hopefully, they have some obscure mechs like the pouncer and mongrel.
Is there a list of confirmed Mechs somewhere? I don't think Space Marine 2 will impact this, many of us 40K fans are also gamers who like Mechwarrior and I'm sure most of us will be playing both.
We know that the Mech's that are in the trailer are in it.
@@odinreaver3880- or at least were also included at some point, not necessarily at launch......
If its a Omnimech in MWO and era appropriate you can safely assume it will be present
The mech that gets engulfed in flames at 9:07, was that a Panther? Panther was the first mech I ever played so its a personal favorite.
I think Marine 2 itself could be overshadowed by controversy leaving a nice mech sized entrance for Clans to sail right through
The MW5 Clans releases one day after my birthday. Time for some vacation days.
The hype is real. To Terra!
Idk I need to see way more bright green face tattoos before I'm sold.
I do hope they have a post campaign single player. Doesn't need to be a huge open world but a "choose your own adventure" style mode that lets you plot your own path to terra would be fun. Full with loads of "what ifs" etc.
I agree, the Clanner Commander calling the Combine is delusional arrogance at its finest. This will be one to definitely check out.
Honestly, I don't have a problem with Clan Smoke Jaguar being a playable faction given Clans Wolf, Jade Falcon and Ghost Bear already had their stories in Mechwarrior 2. Though I do hope we can get an Instant Action mode that lets us play as other Clans like in Mechwarrior 2's Trial of Greviance mode.
Im curios to know if theyll have or add a custom campaign kinda like in 5 mercenaries as in you can choose a clan or house or just a merc and as you play missions, and you get to see the galactic map change over time for either side, either as it does in the lore or again as a unique to that playthrough kinda like how the galactic conquest map did in the origional battlefront 2. Either way mechwarrior 5 clans is gonna be a damn good fun game regardless.
Catching me off guard at work but glad to have the good news of clans
No clans in inner sphere paint. In other words, anything wolfy. Sometimes it just feels good to be test tube grown space fascists. Sometimes.
That means it only means they were captured by the Houses.
Yeah but there was not enough of them because even the four Succession Wars that happened there were still plenty of MechWarrior and only the best were hired by COMSTAR.
I ain't playin' as no Wolves. lol
The dragon will melt beneath my Nova’s lasers.
I would love a Mechwarrior 5: Battle of Tukayyid
Especially since it's just after the foundation of the Free Rasalhague Republic which I fell in love with. Can't wait to smoke some Inners asses lol.
personally i liked the free style of the contract based merc system. Perosnally for me the campaigns were a headache and i usually only completed them via cheese (doing a freestyle runs, getting what i wanted, then loading that into the campaign start), still i'm excited to play the clans!!
Looking forward to this game.
I may be a Wolf fanboy but I’m still hyped for this
Loved the old narrative games and while Mercs scratched an itch I still prefer the clan era mechs and can’t wait to have my batchalls ignored and my honor tainted by fighting unworthy opponents
I recommend folks listen to Russ Bullick the CEO of Piranha & OG MW & BT fan onnthe Valhalla Club Podcast. The interviews with him & his apparent love for MW2 & MW5 Clans being strongly inspired by it has done more to get me hyped then any trailer (though that initial trailer gave me goosebumps!)
I'd love story driven MechWarrior games but not at the cost of everything else. Linear campaign with limited mechlab and mech selection? No form of replayability? Leaving modders to restore baseline functionality and still charging full price? No thanks.
Then again, I suppose I shouldn't expect any better from a company that strongarmed MW:LL out of existence, tried to sell $500US gold paint jobs or conned both preordering fans and Epic for the extra cash of an exclusivity deal.
As a fan of both 40k and Battletech, I hope both are solid games. Time to find a pair of friends or two pairs, haha. I will say though, in terms of Space Marine 2, I feel like the two settings can probably live side by side (and well, if Space Marine 2 isn't as good as it looks on release, as is often the case with many big budget games these days, it will only drive more people to Clans)
Tbf fair, the Combine is pretty damn Fascist lol. If this was any warden clan and not Theodore Kurita’s Combine, i wouldve said dude was justified
Actually the CAPPELLANS are far worse I don't know why people will forget this they're literally a communist socialist hellscape.
I think it's easy to confuse Fascism with NeoFeudalist, but the basic Economic fact is that the Jaguar's industry and innovation suffered once their Blitzkrieg failed, while Draconis' only got more advanced
But without sandboxing, how can we experience the long campaign as we try to escape the ever present threat of these 'civilians' (whatever that means) hunting us across the galaxy?
Not a fan of the Clans but I'm glad they are bringing this classic storytelling from the perspective of something outside the Inner Sphere.
Mw4m menu music really takes me back to
They better give other Clan options than Smoke Jaguar. Even other Clans hate Smoke Jaguar. Even Jade Falcon hates Smoke Jaguar. JADE...FALCON!
it's already confirmed there will be dlc for the other invading clans as well as more mechs to use
True, i think people forget Smoke Jaguar didnt just get wiped out by the inner sphere alone. The clans straight up ignored Smoke Jaguar’s pleas for aid, and Ghost Bear had a chance to intercept Task Force Serpent in space with their overwhelming naval fleet and just let them go cause again, fuck Smoke Jaguar. Hell Clan Wolf-in-Exile sent their forces to assist the 2nd Star League on taking out Smoke Jaguar. I dont think there’s ever been a clan that asked for it any harder than Smoke Jaguar did, which is funny cause it was in defense of the most mustache twirlingly evil great house that ever great house’d. Unfortunately it was during a a time period where Theodore was in charge and they were chilled out and the Lyrans were the ones acting up
Let's just focus on the Jags for now. As Big Red pointed out before iirc, the Jags are the only one of the major invading Clans to not have a game centered on them yet. Wolf and Falcon had their Refusal War in base MW2, and then there's Ghost Bear's Legacy. Other Clans could wait for DLC
@@brothersgt.grauwolff6716 where did they confirm it? i missed it
Ask Russ to remake MW 2 and Ghost bear legacy.
The music in the trailer reminds me of Babylon 5 quite a bit. Its an interesting score for MW, something different from the usual hard rock and metal but still heavy.
MechWarrior 4 Mercs was good because while you got to pick your path throughout the inner sphere and live the mercenary fantasy, all the missions were still hand-crafted and had small story arcs built into them. MechWarrior 5 Mercs by contrast was little more than a soulless procedurally-generated sandbox with a half-baked story using half-baked versions of the systems found in Hairbrained Schemes turn-based title.
It was also full of immersion breaking mechanics that game didn't have like objects and supply caches you could somehow interact with from the cockpit, and the ability to reduce incoming damage by leveling up the skill of your pilots, but who knows if stuff like that will still be present.
Well hopefully PGI has learned their lesson from MW5. The DLC and opening up the game to Modders shows they at least were willing to let fans contribute...
But let's hope they actually give what the fans want from the get go.
Finally!
I still wish they would say whether or not there will be a GOG release for this game. You can get Mech5 Mercs on GOG and they clearly declared it in the trailers for all the DLCs. But for some reason they have not for Clans.
GoG got a release after the initial release last time. It may be the case this time. Who knows?
REALLY hope they have a game mode in the style of MW5 mercs. Its just SO dan replayable
I'm pumped for this jaguar is my favorite clan. What I'm not sold on is not having a sandbox mode
I'm not big on sandboxes at this point, but, we'll see if the game can make due without it.
@BigRed40TECH I will admit having a good story campaign like the older games would he awesome but flying around in sandbox chilling and hunting down mechs is fun. Either way I'm getting it for sure just gonna be optimistic about the sandbox mode change.
If lose they to the Inner Sphere that what matters Get Forcht Clanners.
Congrats on reaching 30k Red!
Coyotes Mission Pack Mod Is a Must for MW5. mods make it replayable for me :)
Coyote? They didn't do anything XD
I'm stoked for this, but I really hope this is released for the PS4 as well as the PS5. I'm not a big gamer, and I can't justify getting a PS5 for just this game.
I'll be more excited once more details on Omnimech customization is available. Will we have however much omnipod space our Mech has and within that be able to customize our loadout as we wish like Omnimechs work in the tabletop games or will it be like Mechwarrior 4 where we'll have a few weapon hardpoints we can mount whatever we want on but most weapon hardpoints are restricted to specific weapon types?
Good news this morning! I wonder if they’ll make the Smoke Jaguars more human or “likable” similar to the character Trent? Or will we get the Battletech cartoon villain treatment? Would we participate in Turtle Bay leading up to its massacre?
From what we’ve seen so far, i get the feeling they may make the Star we play as likable, but the SJ leadership itself Heinous as fuck
I am a warhammer fan, but I am far more interested in Mechwarrior 5 Clans.
moment I heard voice acting I thought: "I hope Big Red is one of them!"
I am definitely not. lmao
Can’t wait for this!!
The game will be released 18 days before my birthday - now I know what to get as a present for myself..
Guessing that they wil first do full campaing dlcs for the other clans. Many even a wolf dragoon expansion as a prequel
I want Ghost Bear and Jade Falcon campaigns.
I'd love to see Luthien big a big part.
I'd also like to see maybe Dragoons or Kell Hounds campaigns fighting on the opposite side.
I think this will be what it says: Mechwarrior 5: Clans, means Clans. At least in my view. lol
LETS GOOOOOOOOO!~
Yeah the procedurally generated missions of MW5 were.... fun for about 2 weeks then felt too grindy. Hoping this one redeems it.
Whereas scripted missions become boring even more quickly as there aren't any surprises on subsequent play through......??
@Draksyl I hear you. Maybe it's a case of MW5 just not being as fun as the other MechWarrior titles but I played MW4s way more than I did MW5.
Cauldron born 🤞
Please don't be an Epic Games Store exclusive 🙏
Hey Smoked Jaguars, remember when you still had a Clan? HA HA HA HA!
GLORY TO COMSTAR!
I have an idea I want to see implemented in MW5 Clans, and I'm not picky about how it gets in the game.
If they want my money, they can make it DLC. If they want my heartfelt raving reviews, it'll be in the vanilla game.
Or if they want me to sing the praises of the game for it's ability to be modified, some kind MW/BT fan out there might make it as a mod or mod pack.
But what is it that I want so fervently that I don't care how it gets put in, you ask?
It's quite simple, really.
I want to be able to play "all sides" of the clan invasion.
Pick "Clans" and it plays out as they're advertising it. Pick "Inner Sphere" and the players switch sides with the AI.
But you can do better than just that, and here's where the mod-makers probably get involved:
Say you want to get more detailed, say you only want to play the missions of one specific involved clan or IS Great House in the Clan Invasion? This too would be possible, even if the overall length of such a campaign would likely be shorter by necessity. This would allow you to play the "As the devs intended it" route, the "We're the bad guys because there ARE no "good guys" route (IS)", and the "Yeah but what about the adventures of an average MechWarrior in that faction" route (for each faction involved, and yes I realize that last one's a monumental task).
Your voice is like if AlternateHistoryHub and Peter Griffin had a Canadian love child. And I mean that in a very caring way.
I still play MEC 4 merci and soooooo wish they would do a stream update of the older games!!! Cause realistically the same mission over and over without being able being able to use different lance configs. Like why am u stuck with 4 assaults. Let me lead multiple lances of mediums!! Not a jag fan but still yay new game!!!!
I'm kind of torn on this one.
I'm not a fan of Smoke Jaguar's treatment of civilians.
Kerensky went to great lengths to save civilians during the civil war while Jaguar
had more of a "smoke em if ya got em" attitude during the invasion.
As a Davion fan usually playing as a mercenary I'm obviously even less happy
with Kurita's known reputation to this day.
I'd be quite comfortable just sitting back to watch them destroy each other.
as long as there's an Instant Action option? I'm good.
I'd be shocked were there not. But we'll see. lol
I am HERE FOR THIS!
You get a like for using Next_Move in the opening.
They should have Hells Horses for the Quad mechs
They won't be in the game though.
Give me a full Battle of Tukiyyid DLC. Full three day essentially retreat action!
Even better if they can give all seven clans actions.
The Jaguars on Tukayyid didn't really... manage anything. lol
@@BigRed40TECH the fighting withdrawal might be a compelling mission series. Your star being one of few intact enough to go from spot to spot and cover for entire trinaries withdrawing. MW5, hell I do not think ANY MW game had a fighting withdrawal or relief of beleaguered forces style mission
I'm hoping this is going to do well
I wonder how mechs are going to work. Do we get the full mechlab or are we going to be locked to omnipods, have armor/engine/ect. restrictions?
My money is open mechlab because people will riot otherwise... but I might hold myself to variants.
I am going to to laugh if there are no second line designs available to play in the game. I mean, it would make sense that only ‘OmniMechs would be available, given the Smoke Jaguars horrendous treatment and enormous disdain for even their second-line warriors, let alone their lower castes.
Depends how far into the timeline we get, at some point they really had no option but to field Battlemech’s by the time of their Trial of Annihilation by the second Star League.
@@Angel7black I view it as a matter even less so than that. A “front-line” warrior in that era would view an ‘Omni as the only option. Regardless of the actuality of which is better, the in universe viewpoint would be ‘Omni or nothing. Canonically, the only way non-‘Omnis should be an option is if the PC get busted from front-line service and posted to a second-line/PGC type unit. While you are accurate in saying that non-‘Omnis would be more prevalent the further time progresses, the Jags were able to fully outfit the newly formed Tau Galaxy with ‘Omnis as late as 3057-58.
May not be your thing, but try out XTC a space game, that allows you to create a lot, only a few scripted missions, but you do have a lot of things you can do, and do them your way. if not dye your hair blue and try Wing Commander, its a real pain to get working on any thing but DOS, but fun if your into scripted missions. my very best to you and yours. Leona
Clan Splat on Tukkayid will be fun but i will never understand why americans call it Clan Jackwire
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Back to scripted missions. It'll actually feel like you're trying to do something and making progress against an enemy.
I'll wait for reviews before I buy.
I'll be sure to review it XD
Super sad this won't be sandbox :(
I was about to mention this earlier but you beat me to it unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to upgrade to a PS5 in order to play
MAD II C ❤
time to Upgrade my PC
Very good news indeed. Can't wait to give it a try.
Personally, I wonder how far to expect with the missions and the timeline. The entire Clan Invasion campaign with hopefully Tukayyid for the final (and hardest) missions.
But what if it is just the halfway landmark of the story ? How about the story goes as far as Operation Bulldog and Huntress ? Maybe a little bit too much expectations here, but worth to consider.
I wish I could edit my comments, but this is what happens when you comment whike watching the video. So should this do great & we get a MW6 maybe Red's dream of Amazon doing a MW/BT show will come to fruition! Let's see how Red we can make Red asking about this onnthe stream tonight! 😉 I appreciate you my big Red (not Commie red) bear! Okay, back to work for me.
You are running too fast; MW6?
All clans of wave 1 and 2 may get their own DLC.
Sure like hell that NOT all mechs will be released in this version.
Launching on my daughter's birthday?!
Perhaps you can choose a member of the sibko
Selah!
Operational Revival 2024 edition!
Ohhhh can we participate in the massacre of Turtle Bay!?
We can only hope! lmao
Im wondering if there will be any Trails during some missions against other Clans
I hate the personality of the characters. I want the clans to act like the ones from the cartoon and Tex Talks BattleTech.
K, but will it have inverse kinematics and knockdowns?
Probably not? :P
Finally, got something for me big boss?
Hey Red, remember when Smoke Jaguar had a clan?! HAHAHAHA!!!
:( lol
Three biggest mistakes in Battletech:
1) Trusting Amaris
2) Siding with Smoke Jaguar
3) Thinking the Stone Rhino is a useful/competent mech.
@@NewGuy2534 Love Smoke Jaguar and the Stone Rhino, sorry XD
As much as I love the freeform nature of the Mercs titles I am insanely excited for a good storyline that the amazing lore of this universe deserves. I’m also happy that it’s not focused on the Jade Falcon and actually a good clan
"House Kurita and their facist regime" yeeeeah weeelll..
Are you implying that Clan Smoke Jaguar, may also, ironically, be a fascist regime???
See i think a month is plenty of time between SPEESH MARINE 2 and MW5:Clans
It's 3 weeks. We'll see.
I'll be frank. We got a release date. Good. Otherwise. I'm not holding out hope we are getting what we are seeing till I actually see it.
Call it negatively. But I've been burned enough times to look the gift horse in the mouth before accepting.
Even as I pointed out, my hype is here, but I wanna see more before I'm a complete zealot. lol
