You can find pretty much every ideology in the hoi4 community : Anarchist , communist , fascist etc
The game it’s a simulator of ww2 where you can chose an historical path or an alternate history one.
The game also has a huge quantity of mod that change the game in many ways: mechanics, ui, timeline and alternate reality (the new world order, kaiserraich, red flood etc)
And EoaNB which overhauls hoi4 to vic3

Every HOI4 multiplayer round has a serbian nationalist, a hacker, some kid with a nazi username, a bunch of slovaks with mics that pick up every single sound in their house, and a couple of normal people

6:40 There's definitely that community. There's also a bunch of strategic buffs, a bunch of history buffs, and some others. I think CK 3 and EU4 are more my style, more building and less immediate warfare.
Yea hoi4 has some hardcore role players especially of the German and Soviet kind, while others are quite chill just a fun night playing with friends. And from personal experience CK and EU are played more with the idea this is me and how I want to do stuff while in hoi it's hey I'm suddenly in charge of the nation and where going to world war 2, so almost always the same stuff repeatedly, it's why I feel that mods are so popular since the main game does become rather representative after the severalty time German invaded Poland.

I actually had a mini series when Alternate History of the World was a thing. Countryballs on maps with well... alternate history. God, I cringe thinking about how bad my storytelling and dialogue was back then haha.

Why is it always the history teachers who are the fun ones in school? Every other teacher I had was ordinary but my history teacher would make random fun activities about history every week.
Could also be weird at thesame time. Mine in High School equivalent was Rome nerd and had dipped a little too much to the Italian culture as he once said that if one is in Rome and needs to use facilities, the shops have to accommodate, so always choose lingerie stores. Laws may have changed since 2002 though.

6:37 There is a significant amount of people who play HoI4 that are very much nationalist and use the game to live out their irredentist fantasies, but there is also an even larger amount of people who simply like to mess around with ridiculous alternate history scenarios, such as "What if the Romanovs came back to power" or "What if Austria-Hungary reunited", and there are a lot of people who purposefully challenge themselves to do world conquests as traditionally small and insignificant nations like Luxembourg or, as the meme showed, Bhutan.
The essence of being a HOI player is being able to become patriotic for whatever nation you're playing, regardless of any real connection to it.

Hoi 4 is really addictive when you start playing it because honestly i may or may not have over 1500 hours playing hoi4 but you need about 50-200 hours at least to pass an ap history test

Cafeteria food is most definitely good, I remember counting down the days to shepherd's pie, and the pizza was sublime. Nah, Hoi4 does attract patriots and a lot a lot of wehraboo's (people who romanticize Nazi Germany because of it's military conquest) but it's mostly just people who love military history and hypotheticals in general.

Concerning the HOI 4 thing: It is the same like with any game. A lot of different people play it, so ofc you will get some people with certain political leanings, but the biggest part of the community (at least to my experince) are either just Strategy or history nerds, or both who also enjoy alternate history content in general (What would happen if... an so on). Besides HOI 4 is really just a good stretegy game.
I’d argue that people who are into strategy games and military history tend to lean further right than other gaming demographics. Might also have to do with them being a lot more male dominated and men generally leaning more right wing

I used to be a hardcore HOI4 player. Most of us aren't nationalists. In fact, we're the ones who are often able to say our countries suck. I had a friend once who used to play HOI4 with me casually, but he absolutely felt like a nationalist. But not for his own country. Every country expect his own, which is funny looking back at it.
