If I'm not mistaken this doesn't actually happen with every type of plastic but it does for one of the most used types of plastic called Polyethylene.

you can't change the color of a yellowing phone case for one main reason. UV rays cause discoloration, and unless you can reverse that you can't do that simply by cleaning it.
The bad news is that color fade and embrittlement are permanent and can’t be fixed. The good news is that the degradation happens from the outside in, so the yellowing may just be on the surface. For yellowing, there is a technique called retr0brite that has proven successful and essentially involves using MORE UV light to break apart the bromine-oxygen bonds. Hydrogen peroxide is then used to get in there and fill the broken bonds with hydrogen, making the bromine more stable and reversing the yellowing.

You can drop these into peroxide and place a bright light over it. It will come back clear. This is done in restoration of old plastics.

you can't change the color of a yellowing phone case for one main reason. UV rays cause discoloration, and unless you can reverse that you can't do that simply by cleaning it.

The bad news is that color fade and embrittlement are permanent and can’t be fixed. The good news is that the degradation happens from the outside in, so the yellowing may just be on the surface. For yellowing, there is a technique called retr0brite that has proven successful and essentially involves using MORE UV light to break apart the bromine-oxygen bonds. Hydrogen peroxide is then used to get in there and fill the broken bonds with hydrogen, making the bromine more stable and reversing the yellowing.

the reason this doesnt work is because the yellow color of the case comes from a combination of both sweat and sun bleaching, so that means its not something that you can wash off
