    Thank you for your work with this species. 2 goodeid species that were once extinct in the wild have been successfully reintroduced to their native habitat thanks in part to hobbyists breeding and sharing them. Keep up the great work.

    Nice work! I have a tank of multipunctata and try to distribute them to club members once or twice a year. The NEC convention in April will feature Dr Omar Dominguez Dominguez as a keynote speaker who is talking about reintroducing skiffia francescae back into the wild

    It's very important the data in those projects with the good news and also the bad ones to avoid doing certain things, but also and most importantly the passion you transmited. Thank you for spreading info about this organisation.
    Absolutely beautiful fishies! Maybe some leaves will provide them? Keep us informed about the lil ones!

    They are a fantastic species, I bred them for a few years and loved to watch the males spar. I found them not to predate on their fry and let them colony breed with great success. Seeing this video is making me want to ask for a pair back off the friend I moved my group on to

    Great project, Sean! I’m doing something similar with a fairly rare Vietnamese White Cloud species.

    Excellent video, I hope it gets some people to keep these fish or others on the cares list.

    It is a local turist area in Michoacan. The local use it as a recreational area. The problem is that bass was introduced into the lake. The bass have been preying on all small species and caused endemic species to decline to the point of extinction.

    Hey Sean! Kind of like the Diamon tetras. They are endangered due to us the Hobbyists. As we know from collecting any species 50% die another 20% is due to shipping. Another 5-10% in the LFS then us in a matter of day or 2 and a week later. Like me my first tank my father built with metal edge and glass and putty. So he took me to the LFS for the first time before I got any books or any knowledge of keeping fish. So yes a guppy angelfish a red swordtail neon tetra a Cory cat a Kuhli loach a goldfish and a Betta. Only 1 of each. He drove so they all lived but in the next hour, the Neon fish died. Next day the Guppy. On the second day, the Betta the Angel and the Kuhli loach died. On the third day, only the goldfish and the Cory lived but sadly on the fourth day the Cory died too. On the 6th day the goldfish also. (it was a feeder goldfish) Yup, I was crying and bitterly disappointed. So I was embarrassed but my dad didn't say anything. My Mom the next Monday after work, got my first book on how to keep tropical fishes. So then I started reading then I got 1 more big book almost memorizing everything. Then I went back by myself to that LFS and my Aquarium hobby started there. I was 7 years old (1973) Grade 1. Well, I don't want to write down what went wrong. It was like what you see in fish stores as you look at the big picture on the box says just add water. Kind of like that. I went home after school and I called my Mom to tell her that Guppy had babies and in total, she had 11 babies. OK, what this has to do with endangered sp. of fish is that most people want to keep and breed them but we have killed hundreds of them before we get it right. So we kill more and countless others die from the moment they catch it until it ends up in our tanks then the toilet bowl. In the last 20 add years, I only bought and kept fish that are captive-bred. So in the LFS when it says freshly cut and shipped etc. I stay away. Most wild cut dies for many reasons (again it's too long to list it) So my point is that they won't be endangered if we don't keep taking from nature. As Sean mentioned the White Cloud mountain minnow hails from the southern part of the Himalayas and now only exists in our aquariums. So let some pros start breeding them and they pass the techniques on then we buy from the LFS that is acclimated in our treated tapwater and won't die in a matter of a couple of hours as we take them home. I think that is the best solution to endangered sp. Nice little fish Sean good luck with them, hope it works out. Thanks for the vid. 👍

      These are endangered due to the introduction of bass for fish in the lake. If hobbies had not collected them they would not exist.

      @@pecktec Yes, among things. Also, those things they do down in Florida. Not talking about the Burmese python but fish farms that are right by the Everglades and as they walk by their huge open tubs many fish are down by their feet and when water spills they go flushed in the Everglades. So many other things too. Thanks for pointing it out Sean. I know we should do more and somehow try to discourage people from buying wild-cut specimens. 👍

    Ive been raising and keeping Skiffia for the past year They are and AMAZING fish. One they are beautiful 2 so much personality and 3 they are spunky. If you keep them in a community tank they do nip! So beware of that and they will nip at Mystery snails . I have footage of my tanks on my channel

    • @pecktec
      @pecktec  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Any tips on breeding them? I’ve got no babies so far.

      @@pecktec I don't think I am doing anything too particular I have them in a planted aquarium and I do 20% water changes weekly. I did come to find out that they can stay pregnant for up to 3 months 🤯 I don't know how that is possible but mine have had fry every 3 months. So not as fast as guppies. I give them fish flakes and they love to eat my plecos broccoli.
      Oh i keep the water about 70/72 degrees.
      And I have 6 males and 4 females right now that are old enough to mate. Im hoping to have double that number in 6 months. But they only have 3 to 5 babies at a time and only 1 or 2 of my fry have made it. So im still working on fine tuning their eco system. I really want to help get the population back up 💜.
      I hope some if that info helps. The boys will show off for the girls when they are mating its kinda cool because it looks like they are dancing.
