BEFORE & AFTER Leather FOSSIL Purse was FILTHY

  • I purchased this vintage Fossil Preston purse recently from a mom whose daughter had nearly destroyed it. It was in desperate need of a deep clean! And it took 4 rinses to get all that makeup out -- at least, I'm assuming it was makeup. Overall, the purse cleaned up great. Bonus: it's one of the nicest leathers I've worked on so far. It's a keeper!

    Oh my goodness...I just found your channel this evening and I am LOVING it! It truly is so relaxing and I was thrilled to see you do a Fossil purse - my favorite to collect. Happy to know you can actually submerge the entire purse in the water / soap mixture. I am so excited to try this on my latest find. A Fossil Maddox in a lighter green color that has a strange yellowish staining on the back of the leather. Seems like the green Fossil's also tend to fade if not taken well care of. I seriously can not believe people pay hundreds of dollars (or with luxury brands thousands of dollars) on these purses only to ruin them!! 😡 Keep up the great work, can't wait to watch more! 😁

    Is the Saphir leather POLISH or DYE? All info I read informs not to use polish as it will transfer to other objects. Has that happened to you??

    Excellent restoration!!!!! 🤗 Fiber reactive dyes may work very well for touching up faded liners, especially when the lining is the same color as the bag in case there is an "oops". Black is probably a safer color to work with regarding possible boo-boo's than other colors may be. Angelus leather dye may also work as well on fabrics as it does leathers, but it may not take as well on synthetics. I have never tried it on synthetic fabrics, so I'm not sure how color fast the results would be.
    This one was a lot of work, but the results are lovely!!!

    A viewer below mentioned leather dye and I would agree, but another solution may be to use black paint (matte) diluted with a bit of water. You can purchase a small craft bottle for very little $. I always go for the low-budget solution. Many don't know this, but you can also use acrylic paint (which is what most craft paint is) to color a bag. Just finish with wax, or hairspray (which has lacquer in it) or Mop and Glow, which gives it some shine. Rit dye may also work for the lining, because it is for fabric. Happy restoring...

      You need to use Angelus paint, it’s formulated for use on leather.

    I noticed you blocked the towels in much more casually than how you do the structured bags. Nice touch.

    For your final rinse put the whole bag in a pot of RIT fabric dye to color the lining. It will not hurt the leather, you already had it in the water.

    you could buy fabric dye powder to dye the bag liner. I think the brand is called TINT.

    Dip just the liner in black RIT fabric dye. I would carefully paint it around the edges.

  • @grouchywhitecat
    @grouchywhitecat Před rokem +3

    I believe the red that came out in the rinse was from the lining fabric. Black fabric will bled different colors depending on the dying process. There are products to help set the dye.

  • @JackieHagge
    @JackieHagge Před rokem +1

    Someone wrote Rit. First you need to know what type fabric you’re working with in order to know which Rit to purchase. 2. Dying is not quick. I dyed a pair of faded black 100% cotton Dickies. I followed the directions to the letter; the dye came off the first wash. So I don’t know how long you’ll need to wait before you can use the bag. Now I know to soak in dye bath overnight for the dye to stay in the fabric.
