The Vietnamese were severely outnumbered to the US military, and they had far less advanced military equipment. Living conditions were very bad in the tunnels, and 45000 Vietcong soldiers died just making the tunnels. They played a huge part in the resistance of the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops against the American military. The tunnels prolonged the war and increased casualties among American soldiers. The US withdrew completely in 1973.

Difference between USA and Vietnam army was they were fighting for their homeland with full determination and sacrifice their life , but American soldiers were totally new for jungle warfare and without any motivation, most of the American casualties were under 25 years of young men who lost their life for nothing..

    • @Lamentors3Co

That idea maybe instilled into your brain, however it ain't 100% true. Vietnam Army was two different entities at that time. The National Vietnamese Army ( the commies) and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam or ARVN ( the South's Army) . Now, I forgot to mention the Viet Cong. Who it seems did most of the fighting. Since the NVA never faired well, ie Ia Drang Valley 1965AD. One NVA Division whittled down to 10%! Man, they fared worst than Pickett's Division at Gettysburg. American soldiers weren't that new at jungle fighting. There were some Veterans of the WW2 Pacific Campaigns in the Hierarchy. Also, you may have forgotten about the Green Berets and Montnards teams. They passed their knowledge on the the Regulars. Unmotivated? Not really. These were the anti communist 40s/50s kids who hated the cancer known as communism. They may have changed in the latter years, but in 1967/68/69 the Communist North had factions calling for an ernest ceasefire and compromise. Why? The bombings, the stream of caskets and invalids, the basic economy. So y'all might wanna change your line of thought.

US only lost cos they weren't allowed to enter North Vietnam and take the fight to the enemy. They were always on the defensive, waiting for the North Vietnamese to send their troops to the South, made even more difficult by the communist guerilla group (Viet Cong) indigenous to the South.
Needless to say, you can't win a war by simply being on the defensive all the time, but they still held out from 65 - 73. After which the South Vietnamese forces alone kept the communists at bay for 2 more years until they ran out of ammunition.
Do you think US, Australia/NZ, Thailand, South Korea, and South Vietnam together wouldn't be able to beat the communists if they could take the fight to them without worrying about China and USSR getting involved? If anything, US on their own would've been enough to get the job done.

The Tunnel Rats were the US Marines who found these tunnels through Combat Dowsing, much in the way the Royal Navy found submarines in WWI and WWII, and the Apache evaded and ambushed US Troops in the Apache War, prior to the advent of Radar.
Few people these days even know combat Dowsing exists but it has a long worldwide history that stretches back into ancient antiquity, likely even into paleolithic times.
The most famous Combat Dowser in history is Victorio's sister Lozen, whose skill enabled her to gather vital intelligence from several miles away, including unit size, direction of travel, location, unit type, approximate time they would reach a specified point, and equipment that may be useful if captured.
Not only did Lozen make it possible for Apache Freedom Fighters to evade and ambush US Troops but she also was essential in providing Apache Forces with captured State of the Art Winchester 30-30 repeating rifles, several Gatling Guns and Howetzer Cannons. While the Gatling Guns were never used the cannons were used a few times, but only to scare off approaching US Cavalry. These items were too bulky for use in hit and run operations typical of Guerilla Warfare, aka "Indian Fighting."
Lozen was unknown outside of the Apache until the publication of In "The Days of Victorio" by Eve Ball in 1970. To this day she stands alone as the only Apache woman warrior remembered outside of The Apache Tribes such include the likes of Dahats'é and Sikí, off of the top of my head.
Enemy Finding is but one of many War Medicines (Organic Technologies) employed by Apache and itself composes of several Dowsing disciplines that include blind targeting, blind fighting, active arrow/bullet evasion (an extension of arrow/bullet medicine, which is a form of metaphysical body armor), and item finding , to name a few. Among Apache it is known that Lozen possessed other powers such as Skin Like Oak, which gave her the ability to be virtually impervious to physically strikes, Grandfather"s Strength, which is why she is said to have been stronger than most men. Lozen was rather small, 5' 6" at most and very beautiful and feminine, not the stereotype of the Amazon. Having betrothed herself to an outsider, who spent a short time amongst her band when she was close to her passage into womanhood,
known as Grey Ghost she remained a virgin, awaiting his return. There are those who say she eventually married after the war, but by that point she was past childbearing years, and died in a POW Camp, of Malaria, in Florida.

I served 30 years in the Army (enlisted 6/73) and I'm a graduate of the Sergeants Major Academy which was my highest level of military education on US military strategy. I am an avid reader of military history and the Vietnam War is the most relevant to me. My father-in-law and my uncle both served in Vietnam. My uncle was killed during combat operations and my father-in-law saw action in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and thankfully survived. I am an educated man, however; I am by no means an expert on warfare. I struggle to understand how we did not have better intelligence as to the military tactics the NVA. Before we engaged them they fought the French Army and South Vietnamese Army. By all accounts our carpet bombing destroyed a lot of above ground structures and killed many NVA. Unfortunately, too many civilians were injured or killed which ended up turning many of the locals against us.
I apologize for rambling but I'm almost 70 now and some of these questions never go away. I have inquired to many
government officials and I have not received any useful replies to date.
To all of my veteran brothers and sisters I wish you peace, understanding and prosperity.

    • @PicesQ
      @PicesQ Před 2 měsíci +9

Allow me to somewhat answer some of your questions.I was raised and born Vietnamese in a family that still works for the Communist Party of Vietnam (like most Vietnamese). I firmly believe the loss of the US and the South Army is mostly due to the spirit rather than the tactic. The US did have better intelligence, and they actually won most battles, but the main difference is soldier morale. US soldiers simply have no motivation to fight this war; most are young men who got drafted and don't even know who or why they are fighting. Secondly, a considerable number of US troops are minorities who, at the time, were treated badly by their own government and people, and now they have to serve in a war against another victim of that same government, which could cause disobedience and desertion. Thirdly, just like you said, the US just killed too many civilians. The NVA doesn't need to recruit soldiers because in every village that they come across, there will always be people who lost their family and home who are willing to seek vengeance. As a soldier, you must know that at that time on the battlefield you are fighting for your life, your brother in arms, and your cause against communism. But for soldiers of the NVA, they are also fighting for their family life, their culture and tradition, or simply a fight for vengeance without regard for their own lives. In addition to this, the US troop severely underestimates the NVA spirit. Your intelligence may say that a NVA base has been cut from their supply and will starve in 2 months; therefore, this will be an easy operation, but you would not expect the starving NVA soldier to willingly starve just to hold their post to get an ambush on you or die trying.Lastly, for the US, this is a political war, but for the Vietnamese, this is our independent war. The Vietnamese couldn't care less if we became communist or capitalist, as long as we got our independence, and we actually asked the US first to help us against the French colonizers but got turned away; therefore, we have to resort to siding with the Soviets. If only the US had followed President FDR instead of Truman, this war would never happen. I hope this helps, and I hope you have a good life, Mr. Galloways.

The Vietcongs are an admirable people. Men, women, children, and the aged; all helped to defeat the americans who had superior weapons.
Today, Vietnam is a progressive country and it stands proud.

The US thought they were fighting peasants and it would all be such an easy victory. They lost. The US repeated the same mistake in Afghanistan, and with the same outcome.
