    No such thing as a bad Hoya? WELL THERE ARE! I can also list a few. My fish tail hoya does not like me. Bad Hoya! It grew two leaves and it just stopped. Boooo. It just seats there, no growth, no purpose to life, and takes up space, like my ex.
    I want the Hoya Matilde!! Yours is so cute.
    My top Hoyas are the Chelsea, Hindu Rope, Krinkle 8 and the Retusa. They’re so easy to take care of.
    I think that next time I get a var. Hindu rope, I’m getting an established, large one. I bought a small one and it died. I have a large Curtisii and it’s still alive. I have it in full light but it does give me random dead steams. It’s a weird one. I haven’t been able to propagate it.
    And yes, they can hear you 🫣
    Thank you for sharing! Adios!

    Hoya Curtisii is one of my favorite 😂. It has been the easiest hoya for me. I just neglect mine and give it a lot of sun and it thrives.

      Whoa no way! Pretty much all the other comments are saying the opposite lol. I'm glad it thrives for you! If I ever give it another shot I'll just try to neglect it lol

      Mine too. Very high in a hanging basket closest to the window that gets a lot of sunlight. I water it only when the leaves can fold

  • @Hunnie_Bee
    @Hunnie_Bee Před 3 dny

    Hoya Curtisii took some getting used to for me too. In my experience, this plant likes a lot of light, like a lot. A west facing window or a little south facing (as long as it isn't being burned) and very little water. I like to feel multiple leaves and if they still feel 'fat' as in filled with water then I don't water. If a lot of the leaves feel thin and soil looks and feels bone dry, then I water. This plant basically likes a lot of light and less water then other hoyas!

  • @Wubblyt
    @Wubblyt Před 3 měsíci

    Some hoyas with thick leaves can dry out for a little bit… but they are still tropical plants. Where they come from they get a lot of rain and there is always moisture (in the air) around for them to take in. If you keep Hoya in room conditions, it might be better to keep the soil slightly moist in stead of letting it dry out completely. If the soil dries out too much, de roots dry up as well and the plant will have to make new roots.
    I hope this helps to enjoy your Hoyas even more! 😊

    I just found your channel and the plants in your background look so pretty! I have been eyeballing the Mathilde for quite some time now. My first thought with your polyneura is that it might want a bigger pot! Some hoyas I've found just want more space than others. It has bigger leaves and whatnot so maybe just up one size and you'll see it take off. Hope this helps. Some also want more fertilizer and water than others. I want a polyneura for my next wishlist plant.

    My Hoya Curtisii also slowly died. There are still a few strands left, but it’s on its way out. I am glad the Hoya Compacta did well for you because I have my eye on this one as a replacement for the spot it’s in.

    I had some hoya that did nothing for extended periods of time. I decided to give fertilizer a try. I got Miracle Grow Orchid Plant Food Spikes. Break them in half and poke it in the soil. I replace them every three months or so. Amazing growth! Especially on my Macrophylla and Australis Lisa. 😉 But really, I’ve seen a difference in all my Hoya. 😍 Except my Hoya compacta, I’m in the process of killing my third, and final one. ☹️

    $70, that's what a variegated compacta costs now??? I got a full pot for $15 at a garden store years ago. And yeah, it bloomed for a while but then it just languished for years and eventually I let it have what it wanted, which was to die. That was when I swore off variegated plants. My top hoya is Burtoniae, so easy and so fluffy looking in its pot with all its wonky leaves, and the blooms smell incredible

    I was looking forward to your post and it didn’t disappoint.
    I’m envious of the prices in your area; I will never find any plant I’d want for $8 where I live.
    Currently I’m in Europe and of course I had to check out several nurseries. I’m impressed by their selections. Too bad we’re not allowed to bring any plants into the US. I’d have no trouble filling up a suitcase!
    Thanks for your post and the laughs!

    I have had an easy time with Curtisii, but a difficult time with the compacta .... I wonder if it's more about local conditions etc. I know with my curtisii I really let them dry out ..... water maybe once every 3 weeks, bright indirect light ..... and they are happy. I do pull out crispy vines time to time, but the growth and new growth is great. Compacta .... ugh ... I've tried all different conditions to tr and get the leaves close together so there's no gaps on the vines ..... and that plant just hates me lol. If my current one fails then it's my last try.

    You say that you treat your hoyas the same with watering. Maybe that is the problem. It seems that your failures died because of underwatering.
