- Absalom and Achitophel is a satirical poem by John Dryden. It was published in the year 1681. Dryden wrote this poem in support of King Charles II, who faced Exclusion Crisis from 1679-1681. Taking the story from Biblical times, Dryden composed Absalom and Achitophel as a warning to the English people that if they go against their King, the repercussions would be dangerous.
Since this poem is a political allegory, King David represents King Charles II, Absalom represents Monmouth, the illegitimate son of Charles II, Achitophel represents Earl of Shaftesbury, et al. Understand this poem, make notes and do not forget to subscribe to our channel.

Mam one thing I want to say you should not say bastard child or son in place it illigimate is proper word as once my grandfather told me I hope you don't misunderstood me
True...Thanks for pointing 🙏
Bastard was also the technical word for an illegitimate child back then. It has now become a slang in colloquial language in other contexts. It's wise to not conflate the two, and be liberal and authentic in the literary spirit.
