    The original iconic solo in "Take the A Train" was played by Ray Nance in 1941 after Cootie Williams had left for Benny Goodman in 1940. Cootie Williams repeated parts of this solo when he had returned and of course put his own stamp on it because it was a theme song for the band. Sorry for being a smartass. It is a lovely interview.

    There was a guy named the Duke of Wellington... And his friends started calling him Duke cuz of the Duke of Wellington

      , no, not true...it was because of the way Ellington dressed and was raised.

      @@Eastpointe None of you are right, read Duke's autobiography and you'll be surprised to find out where it really came from. Not gonna tell you because it's hell of a read! Can't recommend it enough :)
