    Just found the channel, love it and love this plane. Those fold down doors reminded me of my time in the low-level phase of Army fixed wing school in the Bird Dog. Summer in Alabama practicing landing on hill sides of a cow pasture and the instructor in the rear seat insisted the doors remain down and he ended up with a lap full of cow crap. He wasn't amused at all and I almost got pink slipped for my uncontrolled laughter.

      @@Curious_Skeptic When you think about its its really insane! Im looking to get a c140, luscomebe or some nice taildragger. A 1950s plane usualy fabric cost more than a new car! Its stupid. It does not really go faster than a car and has 2 cramped seats and a primmitive electrical system but somehow a 50s or hell, a 40s plane goes for 45 grand +++++!

    • @Curious_Skeptic
      @Curious_Skeptic Před 4 měsíci

      @@excellenceinanimation960 Well, I can justify the pricing for buying and owning a beautiful vintage craft! Not long ago, a Cessna 150 was VERY CHEAP and 172 was certainly doable for most anyone. J3s have gone up, but mostly due to sports pilot tickets. One of the few planes you can legally fly with a SP license. NO MEDICAL. What blows my mind is all the companies who make Light Sport craft that are 100-300k! They are obviously targeting the folks who have the money, but can't qualify for a full pilot license.
      The other issue is, FAA is the one who drives the pricing up! The super complex task of getting certification for anything from a bolt and washer, to the full engine, costs mega money. The part isn't super special, but the certification for aircraft grade sure is! And yes, what fails the most? The engines! Always at the worse possible time too! LOL. A lot of good certification gets you!
      I can go on and on. I made it to around 67 hours of flight training and had to walk away as the price of even lessons and plane rental became insane. Even a friend of mine giving me a break, it got to be silly. Now, at 250 an hour for plane and instructor, uhg! AND THAT price keeps going up! Even when fuel comes down, everyone else jacks up the prices still.

    • @DozenDuzit
      @DozenDuzit  Před 4 měsíci +7

      Airplanes are expensive unfortuanly. I hope to help companies that are making it more affordable for everyone. Right now engines, prop and avionics alone can run well over $100-150k before you even start building the airplane. Hopefully the new MOASIC rules will allow aircraft manufactures to innovate and developed cheaper aircraft that more people can afford.
      The Patriot is designed as the premier backcountry airplane with all premium components. This comes with a price on par with the industry.

    Nice improvements! However, pricing on these top end cubs is out of reach for perhaps 95% of potential buyers who remain dreamers not buyers! I wish one of these manufacturers would make a smaller one seater (albeit with enough storage for camp gear) that had even better STOL. There's got to be someone out there that realizes the potential market for such a plane. Engine would perhaps be the Rotax 912/914 etc series, very well respected engine and the most popular one these days in Sport Aviation. Imagine the performance in a single seater (Mark III?) stall/cruise....the issue I've seen when making single seaters is the tendency to make them cheaply like an ultralight. I'm talking about a really solid strong single seat adventurer STOL cub at an affordable price point.

    • @DozenDuzit
      @DozenDuzit  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for the comments. Well thought out. I agree with a lot of what you said. Unfortunately everything in aviation is just so expensive right now. Even a nice rotax engine can set you back 40k. The Patriot sits as an extremely high quality, custom made cub type aircraft (and price matches).
      One day I hope a company can bridge the gap between great airplane design, cheap manufacturing of all the parts, solid marketing, and a supportive sales and customer support team. That just hasn’t happened in aviation yet that I have seen.

    • @davida.4933
      @davida.4933 Před 4 měsíci

      True about engine costs, but I think a cost analysis of a smaller single seat Patriot would show a considerable shift in affordability. Tires don't have to be as big/expensive, back seat costs/controls eliminated, smaller fuselage, wing, etc. etc.and the list goes on. Let's admit most adventure bush pilots are flying solo the majority of time. Such a plane could have incredible STOL performance and that would be a huge safety factory. Importantly, no one really has a plane in this segment of the expanding "adventure cub" market...

    I really wish these builders and manufacturers would STOP using the name "Cub"! These planes may have been originally "Inspired" is some small part by "Cubs" or "Super Cubs", but that's the end of it. All of todays modern "Cub" derivatives have almost nothing to do with their name sakes.
    The Original J-3 Cub first flew in 1937. It was a few more years before they started leaving the Piper factory with their most popular engine, the 65 hp. 171 cubic inch displacement Continental. Those planes had a maximum take off weight of only 1,220 pounds! And could "Cruise" at about 70-75 mph.
    A far, far cry from the 115 hp, 1,750 pound birds sporting the name "Cub" of today! 😮
