Thanks! We went through a few videos trying to figure out what was happening. Definitely appreciate getting to the point and not going on for 3 minutes about the screws used to mount the darn thing.
Thanks for the video. I was going to buy a new capacitor replacement and saw your video. Sure enough I reached up on top of my ceiling fan and there it was. The freaking ring was on top. Saved me alot of work. Thanks again! 👍
Lol, there is a fan in my grandparents house that buzzs, hums, and dry bearings noises coming from it all at the same time. This morning the power went out for a short time and came back on, when it came back on, that fan sounded like a very unhappy camper, it made a very loud electrical buzz.
I installed 11 fans in my home at the same time period. They are not used as frequently as i thought because the AC runs constantly so they are mainly light sources. Only the Hunter fan began to move slow and hum after 2 years. I noticed that my ring on the Hunter fan also fell down. I replaced it but but it didn't solve the problem of slowness. I dread having to replace a capacitor since the fans are used very infrequently.
I’m a little embarrassed of how easy a fix this was! That noise had been bothering me for weeks and I was moments away from taking it down to oil the bearings. Thanks for saving me a bunch of work!
Thank you for the share! Ours was doing the same thing, I thought the motor was going out or it needed some lubricating. You saved me a lot of work, i'm glad I came across your video. Thanks again!
Desert Mike DIY Yeah. The one with 3 or 4 positions should not cause humming, the fully variable speed ones are not good controls for noise sensitive rooms.
Ain't technology great? Seems all do anymore is run around servicing the various electrical items in my home. ANYhoo, you saved me considerable headache with this one mate.
Mine starting humming after a loose balloon found it’s way to the fan. No loose cover like yours. Nothing obvious so far either. I’ll comment back when I find the problem. Same model as yours.
Be careful, but try holding the 4 inch diameter base below the blades. Slightly tilt it in different directions as the blades spin. See if that gives you any clues.
@@mikep95133 I did this actually and it reduced the noise. But I could NOT find anything necessarily wrong. If I let it run with noise it eventually quiets down. But comes back the next day. Very odd.
@@93lopeziIt's been a while, but in the video I talked about loosening the mounting screws at the very top to allow smoother motion since these fans are not perfectly balanced.
This one is the longest operating fan that I have. Total of 4 in the house. Home Depot said on the phone they would warranty it. Not sure how long they are warrantied for. But at least it was an easy fix.
Very few ceiling fans are brush, and those are antique DC, and those need external AC/DC adapter. All ceiling fans sold in past few decades are brushless, and some newer ceiling fans use DC motor, and they are brushless DC and they use internal AC/DC adapter.
The noise from the loose trim ring was quite loud. So yes, the white noise is more prevalent. It's mostly the air fow over the blades that makes some noise. So it is normal. Some fans have worn out bearings so they make quite a bit of additional noise.
it looks like relaxing sleep for me though
Sleep matters a lot !!!

Mine wasn't dropped like that, but I tightened it. It worked. Exact same sound you had. Brilliant find.
That's a great find too !!! I'll remember that !!

You should say you had saved money before buying a new capacitor!

Let us know what you find out about the slowness.

My pleasure !!!
Thats funny mine was down too
A pattern perhaps.

Lol, My fan had the noise for the same thing. I almost buy a new one just for that noise. Thank you for share.
So glad it helped !!
That is a Hampton Bay Farmington. So even if it's silent, just make sure the switch is not a light dimmer.
Sure. I used a motor dimmer and it worked fine.
Desert Mike DIY Yeah. The one with 3 or 4 positions should not cause humming, the fully variable speed ones are not good controls for noise sensitive rooms.
StickGuy1 Not if dimmer is made for motor.
Exactly same problem. Thanks for sharing
Glad it helped !!
Our living room fan when it was newer it was whisper quiet now the humming gets louder and louder it’s very aggravating
my fan is like 1929387177277x louder than that, it sounds like my big generator is on lol
Thank you! Now maybe I can sleep!
Understood !! Good luck !!
Bro these be the same fans I be seeing barber shops and they be buzzin'
Lots of complaints.
i like the rythme of the sound though
I like the sound of the fan
Hampton Bay Farmington
Yup !!
Lucky indeed brother!
I'll take all of the luck I can get !!
Ain't technology great? Seems all do anymore is run around servicing the various electrical items in my home. ANYhoo, you saved me considerable headache with this one mate.
Glad it helped !!
But you still need to remove the dimmer.
Why ? The dimmer does not add any noise to the fan in this case.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! This was exactly my problem!
So glad to hear that !!
Farmington ceiling fan in brushed nickel.
Correct !!!

Cool ceiling fan.
Does the job.
Nice.
Mine was making a load humm/ buzz in the highest mode. An it was one of the dam light covers was little bit loose
Great find !!
It's a Hampton Bay Farmington and it will need troubleshooting.
This one is the longest operating fan that I have. Total of 4 in the house. Home Depot said on the phone they would warranty it. Not sure how long they are warrantied for. But at least it was an easy fix.
Wow that sounds dangerous by the way thats a farminton
The sound is the 60 hertz from the 120 volts that drives the motor.
My Emerson designer series dose that same thing thanks for telling us mine dose not hum
That ceiling fan is annoying
It was. After i fixed it , it's been perfectly quiet.
Why not tell us how how you fixed the ring...was their a screw You tighten or was it done by magic
Magic fingers!! I just pushed that ring up against the ceiling. It's still quiet.
Hampton bay farmington
Yup !!
Thats a Farmington not a discovery
Correct.
electric motor brush noise.
Brushless.

Do you have other fans in your house
Several of the same type, all from Home Depot.
Hampton bay Farmington
Correct.
Did you buy that fan from home depot
Yes I did.
Is that fan still their today
Well over 5 years now. Works fine.

Low cost for sure. But they do the job.
Desert Mike DIY you may want to replace the dimmer with an on/off switch
@@princeautism2694 What has been on there 99% of the time is a 3 position speed control. Worked great so far for over 4 years. No noise.

Yes.
