  • Nagaland's first woman MP, S Phangnon Konyak, has hit out at Congress, saying it has run out of issues and thus plays the religion card every time elections are held in the state and other parts of the country. Konyak, who was elected to Rajya Sabha recently, disagreed with the charge that BJP has a dubious record when it comes to the treatment of minorities in the country. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, the woman parliamentarian also detailed her journey to the Parliament and the role of women in Nagaland society. Watch the full interview.

late Rano Shaiza was the first woman in Nagaland to be elected. Shaiza was a schoolteacher before she joined the Naga separatist movement. She was the first president of the Women's Federation which was part of Naga National Council, and the first women president of the United Democratic Party. In the 1960s, during the early stages of the Naga movement, she was imprisoned for nineteen months.
Shaiza contested her first general election in 1977 and defeated the sitting chief minister Hokishe Sema of the Indian National Congress, making her the first woman Member of India's Lower House from the state of Nagaland.
Shaiza played an important role in taking the Naga peace accord ahead. She brokered the meeting between her uncle Angami Zapu Phizo and the then Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai. Shaiza was a staunch advocate of prohibition and founded the Naga Mothers' Association that worked towards tackling alcohol abuse in Nagaland, and was instrumental in passing the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989 on 29 March 1990.
No offence to Miss P. Konyak here but what are her achievements to make her as MP for Rajya sabha and she is not mandate but selected by a BJP committee board. It will take a lot more to gain people's trust and respect. I mean there are other more competent and reliable naga women who are more than capable to be an MP.

Shaiza’s achievement May never be reached by anyone, for only she could do such milestones, respecting that, you can’t degrade a women without knowing anything about her, Smti. Phangnon is not only the first Konyak to be a mahila bjp president for the state but also was one of the first konyak to have won in Miss Nagaland pageant in the year 1995 (1st runners up) along with other two konyak winners on that same year. She was the founder and president of WALO organisation in Mon which initiated lots of private and govt. projects related to art, agriculture, education and even health sector. They had lots of awareness programs, organised right to education programs and helping the under privileged students around the remote areas of mon, which impacted lots of youths to foray for better education and opportunities today. Implementation of projects regarding free education, distribution of books, clothes, etc. to villages where there was no electricity or even a school to be precise and creating HIV awareness and free testing to name the few work done which was really really required. like I said earlier, She might not form a big organisations or achieved high like shaiza but her small work impacted many youths (the future of nagas) from mon.
So, yes, Change doesn’t have to be big, small act makes it into greater cause, smells acts like such saves life, why is it not okay for a lady who have achieved as much as she could coming from a land called backward by many, why can’t she be worth representing our state, I’m sure there must be many women too but she is also a pioneer for us, eastern in general. She has submitted all her life for society and social work. Why are you saying as if like she has done nothing at all, without knowing a her personally and her contributions?! Who gave you the right to judge someone like this? Anyways I don’t want to degrade other women who might be talented like her. Everyone has their own turn. Let’s support all women, let’s support all Nagas, Thank you 🙏🏻

@@tumeikonyak8167 well thank you for sharing her social life biography cause honestly speaking, I never knew that she even existed up until now.
Now coming back to the part where you mentioned that she deserves to be an MP because she is from the 'eastern' area sounds a bit unreasonable isn't it. I mean it's not a hereditary post so to say.
Moreover, I have mentioned "with all due respect" in my last conclusion para. So, I am not judging but simply inquiring about her details.
Anyways, I hope she lives up to her responsibilities and wish her the best success cause the Oting incident seems to be sold out for an MP seat.

@@nehemiahnaga3135 please don’t put words in my mouth, I didn’t state that she deserve to be Mp just because she is from eastern area, I said she deserve as much as any women who have contributed big or small for one society, just because you didn’t hear about her up until now doesn’t mean she came up to this position out of nowhere, I’m against degrading people’s contributions ( specifically women in this regard) that too just because someone didn’t know anything about them, you are the one who is saying she doesn’t deserve this position at all with that all due respect statement (sound hypocritically judgemental). I don’t mean to be rude but you don’t need to misunderstand my previous comment…. Anyways I’m a naga citizen first and I’ll hope for her to live up to our expectations and hopes and as a citizen I’ll raise my voice when and where necessary without bias ness but not raise opinion when she is just a month in the office. anyways thanks for the interaction, Long Live Nagaland 🙌🏻!

What's incompetant is your observation and knowledge here. Can you be really specific about the time when Nagaland elected somebody who possessed the right credentials to represent the State? Atleast she is articulate about the issues of state unlike her predecessors who knew only how to wear a kurta. Hence, the prism of incompetency and availability of reliable women is subjective. Also,
she should be the first Naga woman MP to represent Nagaland State now because Shaiza (i believe Tangkhul) wasn't an indigenous Naga.

If the people living in India, rather any country, does not bahave as it's citizens, & play mind set of minorities, let them go to the Country, where they belong, feel comfortable & secure.....
We are looking for Nationalist approach not minority approach
Minority approach in EU, daily Riots
    Minority in US, Racism
Minority in China, UN Human Rights problem
    Minority in UK, daily rapes

I agree that people from the Northeast (especially women) need more representation (not puppet) in government and I also believe that the BJP is Hindu-centric (and I am a Christian). The role played by the BJP-led government in international politics and the revision of the new education policy is commendable, but I also disagree with some of the internal policies made by the BJP government like CAA Bill, Statue of Unity budget. And the rising crime rate is also a major concern.

BJP is more civilisational centric because all sort of Monotheism had been extremely destructive to native cultures and traditions. For example, native cultures and civilizations of North America, south America and Australia was completely wiped out by Christian missionaries in their honest but misguided desire to 'save the uncivilized'(in their eyes). But remember, those civilizations thrived there for 5 millennia before European interference and died out in a century later!. I myself is an ex christian coming from a missionary family, but when I understood the real nature of Abrahamic monotheism, which is very damaging to the world, i decided to speak out

    • @chi-8289
      @chi-8289 Před 2 lety +3

The British could easily conquer and mass convert many regions like Africa, Caribbean etc but when it came to India and China, they faced a unique challenge, and more in India. Extremely strong, ancient, continuously existing art, culture, literature and religious values, complex governance, administration and industries, literacy, well developed understanding of science and mathematics for the time, organised and massive armies compared to other regions, massive tax money and wealth in the coffers of emperors and kings etc etc. At the height of British Empire, there were not more than 300000 British stationed in India to rule over the world's most populated civilisation at that time. How did the British achieve this?
By cutting off the native from his civilisational roots.
Divide and rule was not about Hindu muslim, as conquering the majority was required to rule, therefore it was creating divisions in the form of caste within the majority religion. First recorded division and politics in the name of caste and hindu muslim happened in 1890. Also to 'create a class of people who think, talk and act like the European and sympathetic to the colonial cause'. To achieve this, missionary activities were promoted and funded by the British government and various organisations and even private sector. Their job was to tell the native that the reason for all backwardness in India was Hinduism, thereby making Hindu apologetic and ashamed of his roots, a narrative continued by congress and the left after independence.
All this is available is many books and even in Sashi Tharoors books, a congress MP
