You and Nate had some amazing groove. Nothing better than a drummer and a bassist locking in together. Also, thank you for all your work with Yarbrough & Peoples as well as everything you've done with The Gap Band. You truly are a legend.
It was David Oliver first, but it was overlooked. However this song became a popular for Teddy Pendergrass right after David Oliver sung this song in the same year (1980).
Don’t forget that The Truthettes “So Good to Be Alive” also uses that same instrumentation which was released just 10 days prior to the Teddy Pendergrass cover…according to Genius
@@clutchcargo2451 the musical composition is much better in this song in my opinion, as a musician. The spacey vibe is beautiful. Music is subjective however, you can’t tell someone what’s better.
Wow, I did not know this song had another original singer than Teddy Pendergrass (and the following covers by others) until now. Interesting, I don't like the vocals of this singer for the song but I do like the chorus music composition. I love Regina Belle's cover and how she sings it since my childhood in the 1990s! Thank you for posting.
I knew I heard this song by someone or some other group before Teddy’s version. I remember hearing it maybe 3 or 4 times but it disappeared seemingly before I knew who it was.
thought teddy did it first.heard womack and womack remake too.ahmad back in the day.notnsure if I ever heard davids version.he did a song called ms. In. 1978.i was only 5 in 1978.
i had no idea there was another version of the song with Teddy pendegrass. hey this one is no pushover. but Teddy's has the edge only because of the instumental background

David Oliver version of Love TKO is okay , then Teddy Pendagrass version of Love TKO which they released in the same year in 1980 and then come down into Regina Belle version of Love TKO 15 years later in 1995 . They both sounded good but different versions of their own voices but if I think who's better I will have to go with Teddy Pendagrass and Regina Belle because they both soulful but Regina Belle is little more powerful than these two because she's a female singer but other than that they are great singers .
LOTTA LISTENER GO OFF THE FAMILIAR I GO OFF THE ORG..ALBUM. INFO UM STILL ON TABLES...REAL DJ I AM..DISC MACHINES I HAVE CIMPUTERS TOO BUT NOTHINGS LIKE THE RECORD SPINNERS. YAH DIGG
Marvin Jones Way before?Well 1. Both of them released their first albums in '77 but Teddy was apart of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes who debuted in 72.But if you consider 5 years (oliver started his career in 67) way before than ok.
This version is horrible..lets be real..its not good at all..Teddy all day..Womack and Womack is good and Regina Belle has a great version but this sucks..my gawd
Learn something new everyday . this guy died in 82' at age 40. I always thought Teddy Pendergrass sang this first. I love learning music history.
Me too!
Same here
U learn something new all the time! I do as well!
I knew this song before teddy. I was a fan of David Oliver.
I just found out about this version on Wikipedia. Never even knew it existed and I can't believe this man died at the young age of 40.
Nunya Bizness I didn't know it existed either
Never knew that Oliver was the first. He sounds similar to Eddie Kendricks.
Me too just now.

Both versions are great! I like the funk of this version and the vocals of the Teddy Pendergrass version
Perfect observation.
Same thing I said lol this version got that funk! Lol
There are 3 versions I know of. This one, Teddy P and Womack and Womack whom wrote the song.
I agree!!
Wow me and Nate Philips played on this original song back in the day rest in peace DO.

THATS WAY AFTER..THE ALBUM INFO SPEAKS MY CRATES ARE FULL WOMACK TEDDYS WAY AFTER..
It’s nice. He has a great voice. Teddy P’s version is still my favorite.
Don’t forget that The Truthettes “So Good to Be Alive” also uses that same instrumentation which was released just 10 days prior to the Teddy Pendergrass cover…according to Genius
This song is like a pilot to a TV show and this singer is the original actor only to be replaced by a star like Teddy.
I had no clue the Teddy version was a cover!
Teddy oozed this song. This guy didnt do the song justice
@@clutchcargo2451 Pendergrass's version will always be the best!

This is the original version written by Womack and Womack
Love Teddy P but give me the original all day.
Give both of them props 🎉
I loke the fresh sound of this. Sounds like how Kurtis Mayfield would sing it.

Man it’s crazy cause Hugh Porter’s reggae version is dated 1978..Who did it first? I know this was before Teddys version
Bless Pendergrass for making this tune everything it could be.
A groove.... class of it's own.... senior senior groove!!!!!!!!!
thanks for uploading. This track knocked me out.
No problem.
Teddy P all day
Just found out 2 minutes ago that this is the original.
Love this, been looking for this for years Thanks
You're welcome.

This might be the original but Teddy Pendergrass's version blows it out of the water. TP's is the THE definitive version.
That’s subjective. The instrumentation and the eclectic sound of this version is much superior in my opinion. But again, that’s subjective.

Tara G Anytime. :)
Also Michael McDonald
The music is pretty. This vocalist had not experience a love TKO, he could not emote the lyrics.
Senior groove !!!!!!
So good, it hurts!
Sounds like a song Prince could have written!
Or Al Green and Al Wilson.
Lol , way before Prince’s time but yea the arrangements clearly has Prince’s finger prints all over it if he were to do this.
I knew I heard this song by someone or some other group before Teddy’s version. I remember hearing it maybe 3 or 4 times but it disappeared seemingly before I knew who it was.
get this version outta my mind...where's teddy version STAT!
Teddy P. gets the W here. This sounds like Herbert from Family Guy singing here!
Dude....I'm dying over LOL

Doesn't compare to Teddy--sorry. Ms. is his signature. Enough said.
Robert Harlan Check out Regina Belle version of Love TKO it came out 15 years after they did .
Quamese Lowery - Armstead no offense but hers sucks too Teddy brought life to this song
@@ryan312-2 Check out Bette Midler's version.
Middler
Sounds like Mr. Herbert from Family Guy!
I really like his voice and the arrangement too but I think other artists did the vocal rhythm way better.. still not bad though!!
Thanks.
This is a nice version too…a little more up tempo
