    Learn something new everyday . this guy died in 82' at age 40. I always thought Teddy Pendergrass sang this first. I love learning music history.

    I just found out about this version on Wikipedia. Never even knew it existed and I can't believe this man died at the young age of 40.

      There are 3 versions I know of. This one, Teddy P and Womack and Womack whom wrote the song.

    It was David Oliver first, but it was overlooked. However this song became a popular for Teddy Pendergrass right after David Oliver sung this song in the same year (1980).

    Don’t forget that The Truthettes “So Good to Be Alive” also uses that same instrumentation which was released just 10 days prior to the Teddy Pendergrass cover…according to Genius

      @@clutchcargo2451 the musical composition is much better in this song in my opinion, as a musician. The spacey vibe is beautiful. Music is subjective however, you can’t tell someone what’s better.

    This might be the original but Teddy Pendergrass's version blows it out of the water. TP's is the THE definitive version.

      That’s subjective. The instrumentation and the eclectic sound of this version is much superior in my opinion. But again, that’s subjective.

    Wow, I did not know this song had another original singer than Teddy Pendergrass (and the following covers by others) until now. Interesting, I don't like the vocals of this singer for the song but I do like the chorus music composition. I love Regina Belle's cover and how she sings it since my childhood in the 1990s!     I knew I heard this song by someone or some other group before Teddy’s version. I remember hearing it maybe 3 or 4 times but it disappeared seemingly before I knew who it was.

    thought teddy did it first.heard womack and womack remake too.ahmad back in the day.notnsure if I ever heard davids version.he did a song called ms. In. 1978.i was only 5 in 1978.

    What ever the circumstances or contracts legality. This man, his descendants are entitled to some compensation for the value of the samples of his ingenuity and originality. At minimum acknowledge his name.

    David Oliver version of Love TKO is okay , then Teddy Pendagrass version of Love TKO which they released in the same year in 1980 and then come down into Regina Belle version of Love TKO 15 years later in 1995 . They both sounded good but different versions of their own voices but if I think who's better I will have to go with Teddy Pendagrass and Regina Belle because they both soulful but Regina Belle is little more powerful than these two because she's a female singer but other than that they are great singers .

      Marvin Jones Way before?Well 1. Both of them released their first albums in '77 but Teddy was apart of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes who debuted in 72.But if you consider 5 years (oliver started his career in 67) way before than ok.
