- Washington Heights: say it, so it doesn’t disappear. #InTheHeightsMovie - in theaters and streaming exclusively on @HBOMax* June 11.
The creator of “Hamilton” and the director of “Crazy Rich Asians” invite you to a cinematic event, where the streets are made of music and little dreams become big... “In the Heights.”
Lights up on Washington Heights...The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.
“In the Heights” fuses Lin-Manuel Miranda’s kinetic music and lyrics with director Jon M. Chu’s lively and authentic eye for storytelling to capture a world very much of its place, but universal in its experience.
“In the Heights” stars Anthony Ramos (“A Star is Born,” Broadway’s “Hamilton”), Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton,” “BlacKkKlansman”), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera (TV’s “Vida”), Olga Merediz (Broadway’s “In the Heights”), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Broadway’s “Rent”), Gregory Diaz IV (Broadway’s “Matilda the Musical”), Stephanie Beatriz (TV’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Dascha Polanco (TV’s “Orange is the New Black”) and Jimmy Smits (the “Star Wars” films).
Chu directed the film from a screenplay by Quiara Alegría Hudes, based on the musical stage play, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and concept by Miranda. Miranda, Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman and Mara Jacobs produced the film, with David Nicksay and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Behind the camera, Chu reunited with his “Crazy Rich Asians” production designer, Nelson Coates, and editor, Myron Kerstein. He also collaborated with director of photography Alice Brooks (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and costume designer Mitchell Travers (“Eighth Grade”). Original songs by Miranda. Alex Lacamoire (“Fosse/Verdon”) and Bill Sherman (“Sesame Street”) served as executive music producers. The choreography is by Christopher Scott, who previously teamed with Chu on the award-winning “The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers.”
“In the Heights” was filmed in New York, primarily on location in the dynamic community of Washington Heights.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents a 5000 Broadway / Barrio Grrrl! / Likely Story / SGS Pictures Production, A Jon M. Chu Film, “In the Heights.” Slated to open on June 18, 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. It will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
“In the Heights” is rated PG-13 for some language and suggestive references.

Miranda really said "im bringing my whole squad" and i love him for that
He really said: "No, I want them, I know their energy and what they stand for. Give me them."
More like the taco shop
He really was like "Y'all helped me get to the top, I ain't finna forget you"
If only diggs was there
"if i have a job, you have a job."
I have to say, Anthony Ramos lookin’ GOOD

From someone who doesn't know the material idk this trailer seems cringe 😬 Then again the movie has 98 percent rating on RT so maybe it's just a bad trailer

I was in In The Heights as ensemble, but it totally worth it. In this musical, I think you don't need a main role to be a part of the story. It's a story about everyone. I hope they can do the same thing in the movie

Why do people keep saying "I may not be Latino, but...?" Why do you or do you not have to be Latino? Anyone can relate to any movie for any reason whatsoever. the fact that they kept olga merediz and she's still gonna kill it 16 years later 🥺
It made me so happy, she’s the best abuelita in my eyes😍
@Talia Fisher its kinda a different situation with lin tho cuz he isnt playing the same character whereas olga merediz is reprising her role as the beloved abuela claudia
And then there's Chris Jackson as Mr. Softee. Because Chris Jackson has to be in every single one of Lin's musicals somehow or other.
The movie is mostly an opera/musical. Most, but not all, of the dialogue is sung. The musical numbers make you want to get up and dance. The scene with cooking and dinner made me salivate. It was as if I could smell the arroz con pollo, pasteles etc. Each main character faces obstacles but in the end they make the right decisions. No trick endings. All follow paths which ultimately lead to lives of integrity. It honors those who make the American dream a reality with their hard work and honorable lives. Reminds me of the sacrifices my parents had to make and my childhood in the projects of Brooklyn.
@S R. Thanks for your hands on comments based on your experience. Another factor is we Puerto Ricans do not have to face the barrier of immigration status since we are U.S. citizens whether mainland or P.R. born.
@S R. This is Hollywood. They put actors to play whatever role. It is not as bad as it used to be. In a great movie about Mexicans: My Family...Mi Familia, director Gregory Nava, a Mexican American, cast Jimmy Smits, Esai Morales, Jennifer Lopez and Michael DeLorenzo as Mexican Americans. I don't get upset because at least our Latino brothers and sisters are getting work. Think of the first Academy Award winning actor of Hispanic blood, Jose Ferrer. He got the award playing Cyrano de Bergerac, a Frenchman. In the John Ford Western Cheyenne Autumn Ricardo Montalban, Dolores del Rio and Sal Mineo played Native Americans. It's getting better.
@S R. I would have told the producers to hire you as a consultant. You know your barrio.
"In Washington Heights!!"
Man that gets me so hyped up!!
The Broadway cast recording says "turn up the stage lights" and here it says "turn up the street lights" 😭🧡
My Latino people finally being represented. From the Caribbean to North, central and south America love my people! Shout to the our Native American borthers and sisters too and our afro famiilies!
I feel you Raquel, you don't know how much I been waiting for some good representación, not just the people who clean or drugs dealer.
as a mexican/native this is so true, we’re always represented as gangsters, this is a nice change
Right?!?!! I’m so freaking in love with the fact that our community is be represented ACCURATELY! With every Latine person, of all colors, shapes, and sizes. And we are being portrayed as business owners, designers, students, moms, dads, daughters, sons, etc. This is what happens when people of color get to write and star in movies about US. We are getting great representation because this movie and musical was actually written and played by Latinos! That’s why I love In The Heights!!!
And it's REAL DIVERSE DEEP representation! There's Puerto Ricans and Mexicans and Argentinians and was that a Brazilian flag hanging in the street?? And there's people with white skin and tan skin and darker skin and they're all characters with dreams and flaws and aspirations (just judging from the OBC soundtrack) instead of the one-dimensional caricatures we're usually portrayed as.
Between this and the upcoming West Side Story, Latines STAY WINNING
I'm Spanish, and even though we're so different and there's an ocean between us, we share lots of things and a common past. Fuerza Latinos! ❤️
This is the most beautiful, colorful, and joyful representation of 🇩🇴Dominicans americans culture to the teeth. As somone who used to live in the heights this is so accurate. Lin manuel is a genius 😍😍😍😍

I know some may say that turning a stage production into a Hollywood movie takes away the magic, but for some of us, this is as close to Broadway as we can get. So bring it on!
It helps that the guy who made this musical is also huge in Hollywood, and has a big hand in this movie. He's gonna make sure his baby is done right.
also its keeping some actors from the original and i think quite a few of these actors even if they werent in the obc for in the heights they are experienced in musical theatre
i dont think this is gonna be like any movie adaptation of a musical weve ever seen before
That's the beauty of Lin. He isn't a theater snob, he wants to deliver the magic of theater to everyone, not just those who can afford it.
Broadway tix aren't cheap and many of us live too far away.
It kind of looks better as a movie, actually! I didn't get into the musical when it first came out but the movie looks soo good. Love the cultural elements. I think it will be great.

@@SmashBrosBrawl I’m just saying I’m a Latino I come from Ecuador i could change the comment if you want.
It's such a good musical. LOVED it.. hate that the cancel culture is attacking it with "colorism" bullshyt. I'm Latina, I'm not offended.. you don't speak for me.. stay in your lane.
Anthony Ramos playing Usnavi will always make me emotional😭😭 baby Lin finally grown up 😭
It’s amazing how just one sound track can make you feel as though pure euphoria is running through your veins, of any musical, Come From Away and In the Heights are those that make me happier than anything, even a simple beat that is similar to that of the songs makes me smile until my cheeks hurt
So proud being Latina!!!! 🇲🇽 ❤
I haven’t been much of a musical person. But my daughter and I went to go see this. I was so impressed. The sense of community and brought to the screen was beautiful. I’m glad I went.
Lin manuel miranda has literaly saved the day its been the worst day ever and now my 3 favroute actors in hamilton are in it
3 of your favorites? I only saw Anthony Ramos and Lin-Manuel Miranda who is the 3rd?
@@foodplayzgames in the other trailer released, you see Christopher Jackson playing the Mr.Softee man. Jackson originated the roles of Benny for In the Heights and George Washington in Hamilton.
Friend: How many times will you watch this trailer?
Me: YES
I swear I can't get tired of this trailer, I literally watch it everyday
When I first heard the "In The Heights" movie is coming out I knew when it comes out I'll either be all "look how they massacred my boy" or I'll be singing in Spanish for the next three months-
As a Brazilian I was so proud to see my flag in the Carnaval del Barrio scene 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️❤️

I can’t wait to see this I love Anthony Ramos and Lin Manuel Miranda. This is the first time I’ve seen Dominicans in an American film that aren’t in gangs or portrayed negatively😭🇩🇴💙
i literally did not find any dominican actors here
@@kelvinpichardo6498 but the main actors play Dominican characters in this movie
@@mariellalybrito3689 I THOUGHT THAT FLAG WAS SANTA DOMINGO
@@mariellalybrito3689 yeah but they’re not dominicans, they should have got dominicans to play dominicans
I really hope this movie is as loving and respectful to Latino culture as it appears to be. I don't want to go in and hear everyone saying "Latinx" as if we actually use that word
God, tell me about it. Us Latin people don't care, it's just white people being offended for our sake and telling others that it bothers us.
I'm mexican and that word hate us.
All latin america we like it the word LATINOS or Latino and Latina.
The word Latinx we don't like it because not is a word in spanish. In english is Latin so Latinx is disgusting 😤🤕
Sorry for my english 🤗
@@CryptidPlays_ not is true 😐
Mr. FakeNews
Amen! No Latino uses such word just politically correct wokes.
@@elaineen1 nope, I use it becuase it is gender inclusive, the word Latinx and Latine isn’t something that white people came up with. Y’all make the Latin community seem dense and not diverse. Brazilians, Puerto Ricas, Woman’s rights marches, they have all used it. I’m not mad but understand that that language should not be credited to white people, when you do that you erase the hard work many Latin activists have been working towards to be inclusive. They are not asking for everyone to use it nor to change the whole grammatical structure of gendered language but to become more inclusive when referring to Latin people. If you have any questions I’m more than willing to answer but please don’t chalk it up to just “wokeness” It is so much more than that. It has so much rich latine history behind the word and it is just now being picked up in some parts of our community.
YALL IT WAS SO GOOD YOU NEED TO WATCH IT
Can't think of a more perfect way to end a pandemic.
I hope you are right.
*end the US epidemic. Not disagreeing with the sentiment tho
SCREW YOU COVID! You'll see the Late nights You'll taste Beans and rice The syrups and Shaved ice I ain't gonna Say it twice So turn up the stage lights We're takin' a flight To a couple of days In the life of what it's like.
En Washington Heights!
I will be really really disappointed if they don’t get the awards. I want the whole world to recognise this movie and what it means to migrants and the latin diaspora 💞
Do you really think a story written by Lin isn't going to blast through awards? The original musical already won Tony's.
I used to swim at Highbridge Pool, I remember the late actor Freddie Prinze would be there before he became Chico of the TV Show "Chico and the Man"
We would walk across the street from Highbridge Pool, order a Pastelles and a bag of French Fries and get on the bus was it the 101 and head back home to Hamilton Terrace... 1964 - 1973 U.S. Navy bound .. Good memories
Lin Manuel is a gift to this earth 🥺🥺
