- You plan to stain your own concrete floors but you have never done it before? This video will help you with the staining portion of the process. The main thing is to prep the concrete properly, but once that's done, staining is super important process. This is where you can make it look great, or ruin the entire look. Also, be careful not to make it too dark or you will never be able to make it lighter again.
Be patient and everything will turn out just fine. Good luck.

Awesome tutorial!! This grandma is feeling pretty good about staining her concrete by herself!!😂😂 Thanks buddy... Senior citizens are saving a lot of money just watching your tutorials and doing the work themselves❤😂🎉 God bless!!♥️🙏😁♥️
Keep the stain/color/sealer videos coming. Love the work
Great teaching. Thank you.
When my bardo was being built the manlift left black marks on the concrete. I planned to use brick form brand stain and they say not to use acid based concrete cleaners and I can’t find anything to remove the black marks. Do you have recommendations?
We added muriatic acid on this next floor we are doing. Good idea . We diluted the Umber as you suggested too . Hope it takes better with the muriatic acid in it . The last one had areas where all the stain came up . It actually turned out quite nicely tho . Thank you again. I’ve watched this video many times to make sure I’ve not missed anything 🤣
I wish you showed us how you applied the second coat (ombré).
Amber ..
Do a comparison please between stain vs epoxy/polyaspartic coating with metallic highlights.
👌 and the glove snap was priceless!!! 😂
😂
Why does everyone acid stain. It looks sticky and bad. Several years ago when I built my home I had concrete floors everywhere that looked like expensive, natural slate. I did not acid stain. After the pour I threw out powered charcoal and red over the still wet but firm enough to walk on. Then it was finished with the swirly machine. Turned out great except the areas I didn’t hit enough with the powder throw.
If you get places where the stain doesn't take, you can take Sinak HLQ125 and tint it with universal colorant and fill in. Check with Surface FX in Santa Barbara, CA. They are a supply house.
Like the color of that house. What color is it?
I was told to stain before framing. I was also worried it might hurt the wood getting acid on it. Another thing is do I need to seal all the concrete even under framing?
Hey I want to acid stain my 2000 sqft basement and seal it. The products you use can they be purchased by a homeowner or can I purchase thru you or online? Thanks for answering.
Another great how to video. Do you normally use 2 different color stains? And what do you neutralize the floor with before sealing? Again great how to video.
No, two stains was just based on what customer wanted. We use ammonia and water to neutralize.
Looks good so far! What type/brand of sealer will you use ? Thanks
APF P250 and P501
I'm also wondering
The man at the store recommended etching first , but the bottle says not to etch . What do you recommend? The customer wants a mottled look . This is my first one ever . Most of the concrete staining companies in my area are pathetic, so I’m gonna do it . I do painting and construction for a living. I want to get this right so I get more work. Thank you 😊
Do you apply muratic acid before the stain? or can you just do the the mix like you did in this video? (I have quite glossy concrete)
Also how much square foot do you use one gallon of stain to cover? I know the labels usually say 200-400, but what's your opinion?
I have clear sealed & waxed concrete floors(hate them)…how do I remove this to acid stain?
Will acid stain hurt my skin if it comes in contact? Thank you
How did you neutralize the acid after staining?
soda ...baking soda 3 spoons per galon of water
Can you add the second coat after the first has been neutralized ? If so do you have to wet the concrete at all ?
No
What kind of muriatic acid did you use?
How about a old concrete with defaults, paint spills, glue.etc.can it be done.
Yes, but epoxy would be easier because color is in the coating.
Erick hello i started mu foundation do you know a plumber that can get permits from the city
Im in san antonio texas
How do you calculate the amount of stain needed?
Instructions on the bottle. Usually 400-500 per gallon
@@TexasBarndominiums 400-500 per gallon pure or already diluted? thanks in advance
Texas Barndominiums two things. 1) just curious is this product available to be sold to the general public or do you have to have a company/contractor? 2) how much does this cost per gallon or kit, wether stain or just sealing the natural concrete?
Texas Barndominiums what do you use for a floor covering during the rest of the construction process? Thanks
Lol your crew are so camera shy.
But darren looks dodgy az.😂🤣😂
I rinsed and mopped my floor 10 times and the color still comes up so do i keep going till the water clear ?
When you sprayed second darker coat do you spray entire surface or just highlight certain spots, I'm a concretor but Ive always been scared to try staining, your videos make me feel more confident. I'd also like to see you neutralize it
Entire surface.
After first coat I get some white spots here and there. What's the reason and how to fix it ?. Thanks.
After you spray stain push a soft broom across
what kind of stain do you use?
Use 5 gallon bucket and spray first in the bucket and end in the bucket.
No drip
How long should new concrete cure before staining?
30 days minimum
Is there a reason you finish the floors after the interior framing is done? Can it be done while the barndo is still wide open?
Concrete has to be at least 30 days old and moisture level less than 50%
@@TexasBarndominiums Ahhhhhh. Ok that makes sense. Thank you!
what about the cracks in the floor?
You get to keep all the pieces. 😁
In the next video I show how to hide them before sealing.
What brand stain is that?
How do you neutralize the acid stain?
He say AMONIA or BAKING SODA ....but must be quick and the same time you make the spot...and a lot water ....! I think
@@potatosalad5355 I ended up using clear ammonia, and it worked amazing on my floor. Cheap and not much is needed.
Another great video. I have always wondered since you are doing this after interior framing what do you use to cover the floors while the remainder of the build is completed ?
What are best practices for applying the protective construction covering and what is the best way to prevent it from getting damaged during the construction processes?
Ram board or similar. Don’t tape it to floor or you can ruin the sealer.
What is the name of your stain
No soap? Some brands require soap so it doesn't get orange
Epoxy or stain?
Depends on preference. I did both in my house.
Texas Barndominiums I’m looking at doing my garage. The stain seems a lot easier vs epoxy. Would stain protect the floor like epoxy? Do you guys build outside of Texas? I’m in AZ, Thanks again!

Why the two
Makes it more “interesting”. Customer wanted tan with brown tones, so we combined them. :)
You make it all look too easy.
Thank you
Hello Erik. My father would tell me some very good advice concerning O rings in Sprayers. “Be a horny Walrus, look out for a tight seal.”
