Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 23 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

I’m exactly the opposite! Rural communities feel extremely autumn to me while cities feel _very_ wintery
I found “the book of lost things” in the child’s section of my library, read it and was like “ok, any kid who picks this up will be scarred for life”
The Secret History!! Definition of dark academia revolving around a murder on a campus. Such fall and dark vibes. I highly recommend
And it has "moral corruption" arc, which Leonie said she loves reading about in books!
I bought this book second hand a few weeks ago and can't wait to read it :)
@@sonnenessi if you would like "The Secret History" (whenever you get to read it), I would also recommend to pick up "Neverworld Wake" - I just finished this book today and it gave me such "The Secret History" vibes!
@@aless.andra9620 I will check it out thank you very much!
the best book!!!!!
I can't stop recommending Ninth House! It's so perfect for this time of year! Loved how your recommendations spanned across a bunch of genres! :)
Jane Eyre is one of my favorites!
It is perfect to read when it is a dark cold windy night! :D
The only horror book that ever scared me was Dark Water by Koji Suzuki, I can't recommend it enough. Also my staple autumn reads are The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Really digging Waltz of the Flowers as background music
The Ninth House sounds like the perfect book for fall in terms of atmosphere, I’ve had it on my shelves for months and yet I’m so scared to approach it because of how high my expectations were at the beginning!
Word that doesn’t sound real anymore after this video: Autumnal.
I love Lockwood&Co sooo much. And you are the first person I know to actually recommend this in their fall reads video. I hope that more people will discover the series and fall in love wirh it!
I'm so happy I came across your channel some years ago. Such a gem. Not too harsh in critiques, just the right recommendations for exploration without limiting them in terms of the general rating. Kudos!
The Witches Daughter is pretty good for fall/scary vibes!! Also practical magic is always a classic. Oh and Mexican Gothic!!
ahhh i got your bookmarks, and i love them so much! you’re one of my favorite booktubers 💗
I loved this video! I'm actually binge-watching these videos in 3 languages 😂 I just can't get enough of these cozy vibes in the booktube community.
I wish I was a Booktuber as well and I'd make such beautiful videos, maybe one day. Enjoy your books 🍂
Love everything about this video, from the recommendations to the vibe of it. Beautiful.
I definitely recommend the Lockwood & Co. series! It's a lot of fun, it's not too scary like you said, and the characters are great! This series is actually the only thing I've read off of your list so I think I'll have some catching up to do this autumn!
Loving the background music, it fits so well with the theme ahaha! Thanks for the spooky-but-not-too-horror recs, I found that most of the books you recommended haven't been spoken about by a lot of other booktubers.
I have maybe one middle grade/YA series recommendation for you: Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. It's all about this subterranean world and society that the main character discovers after his father disappears in his cave. DEFINITELY gave me the spooks when I read it!!
Hi you’re one of my favourite booktubers because I love your style and aesthetic! In other videos you mentioned how you don’t attain the information from audio books as well as when you read-I am like that! It means that we are visual learners and that our auditory skills/learning aren’t the strongest.
Hope this helped!🍂🌄
This is by far the best autumn/ spooky book list ive seen so far (and ive been bingeing them😊)...you just made my day so much better
i really wanna give dark academia type of books a try, and i'm starting with the secret society, even tho i really wanna read if we were villains too (and i was recently gifted a couple of shakespeare plays so i'll get to those first hahaha)
Who is the Secret Society by?
@@elleitra3004 oops, i meant the secret history 😂😂 by donna tartt!!
My favourite thing about your videos is the background music that you choose and try to adapt your life that you are generously filming for our sake in a way that whenever somebody watches your videos they feel positive!
I love this list, there are so many books on here that I want to read or have read. I'm so glad you started with If We Were Villains, it was one of my favorite books this year.
I felt the same way about Truly Devious. I think you’ll like A Study in Charlotte much more. I did anyways haha. Idk how I didn’t know about Cruel Beauty and I’m glad you mentioned Uprooted bc for some reason I thought summer would be a good time to read that. The new Naomi Novik book sounds SO GOOD! I hope you get to read lots of cozy, spooky books 🍂
Oh my.. I'm so glad you mentioned Cruel Beauty!! So underrated in my opinion, it was so atmospheric like you said and it's just overall a beautiful story, I'll have to pick that one up for a re-read soon!
I've read Jane Eyre in September and it's one of the best books that I ever read. I'm excited to continue with the other Bronte books.
Finally, someone talks about Lockwood and Co! It's one of my favs
I'm currently reading "The Screaming Staircase" based on your recommendation and I love it so much!!
I binged watched all the videos like these I could find yesterday haha. So glad you made this
if we were villains is my dark academic pick for gothtober! glad to know its character and Shakespeare focused. I'm finishing up uprooted right now and i'm loving it.
I'm gonna read Rebecca and Jayne Eyre this Autumn.
And then I'm going to reread SoC because I'm itching to get back to Ketterdam.
"I'm already in like my third cup of tea of the day."
😅 this is so me too
I love the fact that you have Für Elise as your background music!!!
Adored your review! Can smell the chai & autumn candles from here 🐈⬛🌙
And this is exactly what was looking for. We will be in Autumn in New Zealand soon, so I need some dark academia gothic spooky fall books. Thank you beauty!
Uprooted is sooo beautiful! I started reading it and it is now my favorite book. Haven't reached the end yet but I really recommend it to everyone 😅
ive been wanting to read ninth house for ages. i loved the book of lost things, one of my favourite :) i can also recommend to you the guest list
Coincidentally I just started reading Never Let me Go before I watched your video! So excited to find out that it's a great autumnal read :)
Waaahhh your recommendations are what I'm waiting for!!🙌🙌
Ninth house just got published in Brazil and I'm really excited to read it because you liked it a lot!!! I love your channel
I am so excited to read Mexican Gothic. Sounds so so good and cannot wait to hear what you think of it!
I've been waiting for you to do this 😃 now I know what to read 😍
I am a fan of Annihilation! I have watched it in the beggining of this year and I am so glad you liked it too! 😍
You’re going to love Wilder Girls! It was one of my favorite books of 2019. I am currently reading Ninth House and I liked it, but somehow I had expected something different from what I’m reading now. But I want to find out what makes it so special to everyone!
Another book I’m currently reading that you might like: the Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu. It’s a historical fiction about Mozart’s sister, who was bound to become the piano prodigy, intertwined with a magical world. Very autumnal as well!
Xxx
I never comment usually but I LOVED this video and all your recommendations ! You made me want to read all the books so good job 🤗
I feel like I'm the only person that thought *The Picture of Dorian Gray* was just OK 🤷🏻♂️ Everyone else seems to think its amazing 🥺
Actually, I also thought it was just ok :/
oh well, it is one of my favorite books ever, tastes differ I suppose.
I feel the same way! People so often say it's their favorite classic, etc, and I'm like, did we read the same book??
Yes. Same.
I was soooo underwhelmed...
For horror, you can’t go wrong with Stephen King.
If you never read any of his, I’d recommend Pet Semetary first.
Yes!!!
and the Shining! that was my first King book
I'm buying IT. Too scary to watch the movie cuz you can see every little details so I'm just gonna imagine it and make it looks cute in some way-
I'm into psychological horror, so my recommendations along those lines are: "The Troop" by Nick Cutter, "The Hunger" by Alma Katsu, "Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne (short story), "The Terror" by Dan Simmons, "The Corn Maiden and Other Nightmares" by Joyce Carol Oates (short story collection), "We Eat Our Own" by Kea Wilson. I could keep going...
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Please, do keep going. :D
@@curleduparmadillo124 I'd love to: "Drood" by Dan Simmons, "The Woman in Black" by Susan Hill, "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving is fun to read in October. I hope there's something there that interests you!
@@tmb123able I started reading "The Troop" almost right away when I read this and forgot to thank you again. So, thanks again for the list. You helped me a lot and I am looking forward to read more.
@@curleduparmadillo124 That's great! You are welcome. I hope you enjoy all the rest.
YES Dorian Gray is the perfect choice 💜
Aww, Lockwood and Co! Doesn't get enough love on booktube.
I love Never Let me Go sooo much thanks for sharing this amazing book with booktube and hopefully getting some people into it
When you mentioned a new release I thought you were gonna say The silvered serpents and got all excited 🤣
I finished reading Uprooted last week and I'm currently reading Spinning Silver by the same author. Both books are amazing and perfect to read in autumn-winter season. I can't wait to read A Deadly Education too.
Great recommendations! "The Book of Lost Things" sound really interesting to me, I might give it a try this fall 👍
My horror fall recommendtion is actually a big task - I am talking about "It" by Stephen King... I really like this book and I think it has all fall-winter vibes 👌
Love the way you described the book!
I think you’ll really like Jane Eyre! Its my favorite classic, very autumnal, slightly spooky vibes!
Never Let Me Go is the best! One of my all time faves.
Loooove the background music ❤️
I'm so ready for spooky season!! It's still September but I'm already putting up Halloween decorations!
*also OH MY GOODNESS I HOPE YOU READ JANE EYRE IT IS AMAZING
IT WAS REALLY HELPFUL LEO I WAS A BIT CONFUSED BEWTWEEN DARK AUTOMN BOOKS AND SOME AUTOBIOGRAPHY , Thanks a lot btw know I know what to do . Cheers !!!
I LOVED Uprooted! My autumn read (if I get to it, I'm in college as dbl lit and creative writing major which = so.much.reading.) is the haunting of hill house
If we were villains was phenomenal! Not my usual genre but it's one of my favourites that I read this year
So many of these are already on my autumn TBR! I'm also going to read Jane Eyre, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Ninth House, A Deadly Education and Mexican Gothic. Some other ones on my list are The Temple House Vanishing by Rachel Donohue, Bunny by Mona Awad and Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas - all spooky books set in a school or university setting! I love my dark academia books too. :D
I just finished the secret history by Donna Tartt and it gave me strong automnal vibes ! I recommand!
I read Frankenstein last year at this time. This month I plan to read Dracula.
a study in charlotte was very good! the second book in the series was a tad disappointing but the third and fourth installments make up for it a lot !!
I love Jane Eyre, it's truly perfect for autumn. And I just ordered A deadly education :)
The sundown motel by simon st james and home before dark & lock every door both by riley sager. Perfect for this season!
my recommendations would be the night circus and the secret history!!
Night Film is one of the best books I've ever read.
I read The Picture of Dorian Gray 2 months ago and I highlighted like 90% of it lol
I really liked a study in Charlotte (and the rest of the series). It's really fun, and autumnal 😂 I hope you like it
For Dark Academia would definitely recommend Bunny by Mona Awad.
The Shining by Stephen King is an absolute classic big Autumn transitioning into Winter vibes.
I also recently finished a Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay which has received mixed reviews but personally I really enjoyed it and it has a good balance of horror and cultural satire. It’s also a pretty easy read.
Am currently reading Uprooted via audiobook and it is very nice and a bit spooky/atmospheric!
oh look, my dark academia hype has been rebooted
Kinda forgot about dorian gray (honestly, how dare) for a while BUT I just read some of the sample and the writing is soooo p r e t t y
also, excited to hear your thoughts on wilder girls and Jane Eyre!
and idk if I can really recommend them as they're on my tbr but I've heard that The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is like theee Hallows eve book so I'm gonna give it a go, as well as Welcome to Gotham City (for a light graphic novel) and We Have Always Lived In The Castle
...currently reading Naomi Novik’s new book and it’s so much fun and has ALL the blood! Plus a super interesting map/blueprint
loved your recommendations!
The Lost Apothecary is also super good for autumn. Great book at any time, but it has that darkness that makes it even better for reading in autumn.
Jeeez your hair looks beautiful in this video
Uprooted is soooo good yess
Totally going for Six of Crows after I finish the Court of Thorns and Roses!
o/
How is ACOTAR?
@@DanceItUp I'm really enjoying it! I just ordered the 2nd book in the series last night!
You had me at ‘dark academia’. 🖤🔮✨
Have you read The Secret History by Donna Tarte? It’s a dark academia set in the fall and winter and it’s soooo perfect for this time of year!
could you possibly do a dark academia book recommendations video?
Hi!! I don't know if you've read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, but it is a gothic classic book as well! I think you'll enjoy it.
oh my god i love autumn. Btw have you read the secret history, i would love to know your thoughts about it!
Never Let Me Go
where is the little cherub in the bottom right hand corner from? 🥺🥺
"I'm gonna take off my glasses" dang I love those glasses
The Charlotte Holmes series is fantastic! One of my favorites. You will fall in love with Jamie Watson. 🥰
Oh I thought enola holmes was the only book series of this kind
@@duplicity9737 They are very different but both super cool
omg you’re going to love a study in charlotte!
ohh you made me more inclined to pick up a book by Ishiguro now :o I'll give it a try~ :3
I just checked and I never read the Lockwood and Co series. In fact I bought it on my kindle in October 2015. Thanks for the reminder. I am reading that and Ninth House next. I’m reading Home before Dark by Riley Sager right now. I’m having a hard time getting into it.
For Horror, Dracula is a classic and is worthy of the name. Last years' Dracul was a really good spin off too.
I immediately thought of The Picture of Dorian Gray and Night Film when I saw this video so yesssss 😍😍
all of these books seem amazing!!!
no one asked but for an atmospheric spoopy darkish book, i'd totally recommend the Prosper Redding duology by Alexandra Bracken. it has that middle grade charm, but "atmospheric" was definitely one of the words i used to describe it when i read it last year! it's not dark academia or gothic, but i think it's one of the best books to read during halloweentime -- especially if you're not big on actual horror/scary books :')
If you're interested in reading more horror, Let the Right One In is my personal favorite. It's a vampire novel that balances tenderness with ferocity. It's a recommendation even if horror isn't your thing!
Watched Never Let Me Go years ago, not knowing it was based on a book... I... Um... The ending. Jane Eyre is a beautiful book, a yearly fall read for me.
I just finished The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell and it was the DEFINITION of a spooky autumn read!! A haunted manor in rural England, a widow and strange wooden figures are the main ingredients of this novel. It's always rainy or clammy or misty outside which makes it even creepier. Highly recommended for dreary, rainy autumn days.
