Be strong, have compassion and intimacy with the Lord. -God is with you, you do not have to fear. Pray, read your bible and let him work, he will never leave you, obey his words and talk to him. I had a similar experience starting at university, but I was forewarned. Lecturers didn't sit me down in a room and tell me to quit, rather they set up the introductory courses, Humanities 100 and so forth, to do that to the whole intake. To bombard the impressionable 18 year old school leavers with the notion that religion is ridiculous, altogether lacking intellectual credibility, a whole slew of counter-apologetics and quotes and cherrypicking scripture to make it look bad, all backed up by their own academic authority compared with our lack thereof. I was well armoured for several reasons. Firstly my dad was a senior physics lecturer, so I was familiar with academics and not intimidated by mere academic titles. Secondly I had given a lot of thought to apologetics, and had the benefit of hearing many sermons by the late Reverend Tom Smail who was my parish rector, as well as reading some CS Lewis. Thirdly, I was arriving at university delayed by several years, as a mature student. So I knew how strong the apologetics is, and I knew more about the subject of Christianity than the lecturers concerned. I knew they were opining outside their expertise, and getting their facts wrong. They literally didn't know what they were talking about. For many 18 year olds I can see how that realisation might escape them, that expertise in one subject doesn't translate into authority in every other, especially not to having any real understanding of theology. Unfortunately our CU was no help at all, because their evangelical theology was both narrow and shallow, but that's another story.
