His longevity is up there with LeBron and Tom Brady

Personally I think Tom Brady really elevated the stock of other players at similar ages, but he was ultimately the exception. Very few people can remain competitive in football at that age, let alone at age 45, and while Brady could, not that many other players could. Yet, teams are signing older QBs because they think they can produce like Brady can.
Trust me. People are going to make all the excuses in the world, because he was just that good. Also, was George Blanda too much of a kicker to be on the list, or did I just didn't see him.

You missed George Blanda, who started a game at quarterback in 1968 at the age of 41. He came into games as a backup QB all the way until 1975, at the age of 48.

He started a game in 1969 at 41. Sunday Nov 10, 1968 Against the Broncos. Raiders won 43-7. Blanda had 4 TD passes, 5 extra points and two field goals.

Earl Morral had a good, long career. Probably the definitive backup quarterback, and definitely worth a video.
Nick Foles was Super Bowl MVP as a backup. He’s EASILY the greatest backup QB ever.

Brady had 3 separate hall of fame careers fr, one for his 20s 30s and 40s
I think he was actually better towards the end of his career than he was when he was in his 20s.
Darrell Green recorded his last interception as a starting CB at 41. Find that way more impressive than a 40+ qb.
Edit: Even crazier he got playing time considering the other CBs on the roster that year were Deion Sanders and Champ Bailey .

@@disgracecentral nah CB is definitely most an athletic and durability feat imo. CB dishing out 50+ tackles a season on top of their job of coverage. A QB gets PISSED if they're hit 40-50 times a season.
@@morsumbra9692 For one, CB aren’t even close to other positions in terms of tackling if we wanna talk about physical demand. 2, tackling is NOT the same as getting tackled. If you have played football you know but even if you haven’t injuries will tell you that is definitely the case. 3, not only goes a QB get sacked on average during a full season about 30-40 times a year. They get HIT (separate stat) around 50+ times a year on top of that. Not to mention tackles they receive when they run which is more and more common, and stuff not accounted for like general contact they receive on most plays. They also throw the ball, which if you ask me, players like Brady and Brees who were still throwing well consistently every week multiple plays in a row at age 40 plus is very impressive. Especially Brady who could still drive the ball downfield with strength. I as a healthy young adult, do not have the endurance or arm strength to throw a foot ball 10+ yards 20-30+ times in a game bro. I’m not shitting on Corners because they have a specific and important job and those who do it really well deserve praise but I can’t look at Players who accomplished things like Brees or Brady did and honestly say it isn’t the most impressive feats for old players. Especially when we consider the fact that across all positions even for kickers it’s exceptionally rare to start or do well at all at 40+ lol

Jurgenson was known as "the best pure passer" when he played.
interesting thing about Brett Favre's last season, he had his career high in pass yds in a game with 446, which is also the most passing yds a QB over 40 ever had in a single game. Also the only QB other than Brady to have over 350 pass yds in a game.
That was Favres best year.. he barely threw INTs. Yeah they’re always gonna roll the INT he threw against the Saints. But the Vikings fumbled that game several times… I don’t think Brett was the reason they lost that game, he was the reason they were there.. Peterson doesn’t fumble twice it’s a way different story. On top of that the saints put a bounty on his head, and idc what you say the league was in on it. There were hits on Favre that deserved ejections and suspensions into the next season, they were trying to kill him… the league would never allow Brady to be hit like that
Brady threw for 505 yards in Super Bowl 52. February 2018, he was 40+ at the time.
Favre lost his best receiver(s) that year too even before the season started plus other injuries too. I always felt like he didn't have a chance that year as a result.

@@BillyBob-ti2fz I'm not a Favre fan, but Aaron's take was spot on. Favre wasn't the reason they lost that game. It just appeals to fans who can't analyze the game on a more complex level, to look at one play at the end of the game and say that cost them the game.
Doug Flutie was so underrated and could have done much more if teams gave him more time.

I think Chicago Bears history could have been different had they held on to Flutie. Rewind to the 1987 NFL Draft. The Bears pass on Jim Harbaugh and draft the powerful running back Christian Okoye instead. Jim McMahon remains the starter at quarterback those two seasons, but with Okoye carrying the ball, the Bears steamroll their way to the Super Bowl in '87 and '88.

Personally, the physical drop off between 40 and 42 is immense. 42-45 there is little physical change but mentally you are forced to admit what you can no longer do
Crazy that Brady in his age 43, 44, and 45 seasons lead the league in air yards every year. Even in his "worst" year in 2022 he still had 25 tds to 9ints and threw the ball more than anyone in the league. We'll never see it again.

Aren't we forgetting George Blanda, particularly that legendary 5-game stretch in 1970 when he was 43?
Granted, he wasn't the starter per se (and he was technically listed as a kicker at the end of his career) but he proved he was still a clutch quarterback with grey hair all over.
(Also I could've sworn Peyton Manning was 40 in 2015. Huh. Guess not.)

Blanda started one game at quarterback in the AFL at 41 in 1968.

There's George Blanda who at age 43 in 1970 had a remarkable five-game run as a QB and kicker. Against the Steelers, Blanda threw for three touchdowns in relief of an injured Daryle Lamonica. One week later, his 48-yard field goal with three seconds remaining tied 17-17 the Kansas City Chiefs 17-17. Next game he again came off the bench to throw a touchdown pass to tie the Cleveland Browns with a minute 30 remaining, then kicked a 53-yard field goal with 3 seconds left for the 23-20 win. In the team's next game, Blanda replaced Lamonica in the fourth quarter and connected with Fred Biletnikoff on a touchdown pass with two minutes left in the game to defeat the Denver Broncos, 24-19. The following week, Blanda's 16-yard field goal in the closing seconds defeated the San Diego Chargers, 20-17

Playing QB is a lot different now. A 40 year old QB has a lot less mileage and take fewer bad hits. It's not surprising that the most recent 40 year old QBs have had the most success.
Win 8 games with the Jets. Traded to the Vikings where he makes the playoffs then fails to make the playoffs the next season and retires.

Favre had a great season at 40. He had 30 TDs and 8 INT. He also lead the Vikings to an OT NFC Championship Game. He was being targeted by the Saints in that game.

I think Aaron is gonna be pretty dangerous. With that defense, he won’t have to carry the team. If the Jets would’ve had even a mediocre, but solid, QB last year, that defense would’ve taken them to the playoffs. I’m sure Aaron can easily do that (barring injury, of course).

Look Aaron Rodgers is great but aside from the defense being quite a bit better, he’s going to offense with few playmakers and a worse line. I will accept that the Jets playmakers haven’t had a QB to truly bring them up so we will have to see but aside from that he’s in a division with a Super Bowl favorite in the Bills, and up and coming, electric offense with the Dolphins AND you can’t discount the Patriots who will play tough and hold their own. That’s just their division. The AFC will be a blood bath once again and you can’t get by on just being good, if you aren’t elite you might not even limp into a wildcard game lol

I don't see him being the equivalent that Farve was in Minnesota that first year. He might not have to be, but I feel like the Jets wouldn't have gotten him if he couldn't be.

This is why Brady is the undisputed Goat by not only what he accomplished and his stats but what he was able to accomplish after the age of 40 and played like a guy in his 20’s in their prime while everyone else who tried to play at 40+ was barely hanging on, I do think Brees was great especially at 40 and I believe he retired a season to early, but look at Aaron Rodgers, last year he played the majority of last season at 38 years old and he struggled, I believe during the 2015-16 season Brady was 38 and just go look at highlights from that season how much more awareness and how fast Brady threw and he had a zip on the ball and just everything looked like he was still in his 20’s all the way up until like 2021 for him where as Rodgers is now struggling and is looking like one of those guys who’s barely holding on now, and Rodgers is only 39 now 38 last year

I think the biggest thing that's overlooked (definitely gets mentioned but not emphasized enough I think) is what kind of game the greats of old played in. The hits and "protection" they had, from rules and equipment, was soo much more difficult and it's just not emphasized nearly enough. Then you have to remember the attitude at practices and games, the fields they played on, the training/medical techniques, all of that, was just a WHOLE different game. The thing I think I've never heard anyone mention is they dealt with those circumstances not just in the league, but high-school and college as well, and you have to know there was quite a few coaches that were just complete hard-asses that just ruined them. That's what completely floors me, different times, different men.

While I agree with a lot, the modern game has at least (if not more) injuries then in the early days. And while the rules have changed, the physicallity hasnt. Edge rushers are faster, heavier and stronger then in thos early days. And its not even close. A modern day OLB or DE is a former DT or OL men in the 60's and 70's... So if a 6'5 265 lbs guy who runs the 40 yeard dash in 4.5 seconds crushes down on you, it still hurts. There is a reason why Brady outlasted each and every player drafted like 5 years after him, while still being a top 10 QB in the league.
Brady had the luck (or perfect body and stretching routine, dont know) to never have any serious upper body injuries. Not one... No neck injuries, no back injuries, no shoulder injuries, no elbow injuries... nothing. His legs dont really matter, cause he was never a mobile Quaterback. And all that while playing Football for over 30 years! Thats more or less a miracle while getting sacked 565 times in the NFL alone (all time record), not to mention 1000's of QB hits and all the sacks/hits he took before entering the NBA!
If I look at Rodgers injury history on the other hand... I dont see him playing a lot more productive years in the league. 1, maybe 2 if he can stay healthy at best. So to bring it all full circle. Yes modern training methods, medical treatments became way better over the decades and the rule changes helped as well. But on the other hand the pressure put on the human bodies is even higher in my opinion. And thats true for basically every sport. How many guys played 82 games in the 70's and 80's in the NBA, how man do that today? Lebron (like brady) holds basically every scoring record in the League, but only played 82 games ONCE in his career... Kareem 8as an example) on the other hand 5 years...
Testaverde always looked old and slow, so when he actually got old, it was a smooth transition haha

He had some solid years afterward, but in my opinion 2017 is arguably the last season of his prime when I look at his whole career.
