The #UAE craves #power disproportionate to its size. The state has steadily transformed from the Manhattan of the Middle East to the region’s 'Little Sparta’.

"Going Commando" means something very different in western vernacular.
I wonder if the other meaning of that phrase is very well known outside of the US/UK/Canada/Australia? I think the narrator of this channel is from Azerbaijan.

Not sure I would compare the UAE to Sparta. They come off more as Venetian. Just with less boats and more buildings.
One could make the argument for being the Sparta of the Lysanderian half of the Peloponnesian war but most people are only familiar with the 300. Sparta thanks to Persian help would have a larger navy than Athens.
but tbh, I, too, didn't feel the comparison was apt.
Like Sparta, they have a massive slave population.
The UAE is sparta of today’s world in fact all of their male citizens are enrolled into military service after high school and are trained and ready in case any conflict erupts.
@@rar9119Er so are all males in Greece, so point ain't valid.By your analogy Greece would be Sparta of today's world ;p Its probably Israel that is perfect for this analogy.
General James Mattis of the US called them that.
Great video! But you should've also talked about the Sudan civil war and how the Emirates and Saudis support opposite sides in the war which has led to problems (UAE supporting the RSF while Saudi and USA supporting the Army)
I though Saudi, UAE supported rsf and the US does want ever uae wants because the UAE serves US interests. But sauid isn’t as involved anymore

Politics has no relation to morals.....
So true, and so tragic.
Countries dont have friends, only interests. -some guy in a shed
but the twist is, it doesn't have to necessary have any relations to morals for it to be utilitarian enough to benefit the most amount of people, just because it has no relation to morals doesn't mean mass suffering is just something that will naturally happen either way and there's nothing to do about it
good politics/policy is when you keep the most amount of people as functional as possible, with European countries with some of the highest quality of life for the average person
@@hang_kentang6709 really big boobs are overrated -a modern day philosopher
@@Ar1AnX1x That's not a twist, most morally sound judgment was made because it has some benefit in the long run. Problem is, morality is a social construct and that tends to change.
Politics has relations to ethics.
For instance, if you declare a war, you have to take responsibility for it.
Different to other of your videos, this one seems to have been quite sanitized. It seems more like an eulogy (UAE can't do any wrong, every action is justified and rational). It doesn't provide the critical view of issues as in other Caspian Report videos. Like the involvement in the Sudan crisis. Or the role in the Yemeni war. Always in sides that oppose KSA interests. I'm puzzled.

It's one of the reasons why Saudi Arabia has their Vision 2030. Mohammed bin Salman understood very quickly they can no longer rely on fossil fuels, they saw how UAE is now less reliant on fossil fuels. At one point fossil fuels were pretty much 100% of the UAE's economy, now it's 30% that is massive diversification of the economy. And MBS can see they need to diversify the economy as soon as possible otherwise they will get left behind.
I hear the temperatures in summer are mercutian?
Its down to 17% reliance, I don't know why this video quotes figures nearly a decade old

Great analysis, one thing to add would be the aspects of the UAE/Turkey rivalry. Egypt and Sudan will be key there, especially how Sudan is in Flux as is most of the Red Sea.

The UAE involvement in Yemen was part of a wider strategy for them to gain a foothold on the island of Socotra (think it's spelt right), they seem to have a wider plan to make it a regional hub I think as a resort.
Socotra has unique ecosystem and vegetation only native to this island. UAE as it does plans to turn the whole thing into a resort. Plus its position makes it a good strategic naval base.
