Thank you so much. I want to start a woodworking hoppy and into the parttime work. All I have is my basement to start with and this help me see it better as well. Just an honest comment, a bit messy if I may. Thank you again so much for sharing and I am most grateful.

You're spot on. This was my first workshop and all while I was renovating my house. I'd encourage you to watch my more recent shop tour.
      Welcome to woodworking!

Thank you for sharing your work space with us. Your shop is a great representation of most hobby wood workers. You are trying to make the most of the space you have. I can completely identify with the various benches and shelves you've made and now feel you can do better. That's how we hobby wood workers learn, building shop stuff. My wife says every time she ventures in the shop things are rearranged and I have built new shelving, benches, tool holders etc. Just keep at it, it's a great healthy hobby that doesn't need to break the bank if you don't need the best of every tool and can refurb your own.

Thank you for the kind words, Kevin. I couldn't agree with you more. I hope you stick around to see the countless rearrangements lol. Let me know if there's any projects you'd like to see.

As a basement dweller, I appreciate tour shop tour and your solutions to the challenges it presents. We have lived in 4 different homes in 30+ years and I have always had a basement shop. It always gets better as you learn and grow. Keep up the great work !

      Thanks Paul!
It's certainly better than no shop, but less ideal than many.
I hope you'll stick around for my upcoming videos in my new shop that I'm building right now. It's a one car garage, taller ceiling but similar foot print.

Great shop tour. You will not regret getting a separator. It’s also hard to believe a big miter saw station would make since but you can incorporate several tools in it and you can store a ton of stuff in it. Great video.

Thank you, Jordan! I'm experimenting with the home depot version right now but it's giving me quite the headache.
Yeah, I'm still going back and forth on it. I anticipate I'll have one in a future shop, but not sure it makes sense right now.

Sweet shop tour - love your honesty with your builds. Very helpful to be reflective like that - your shop is going to become better and better with that mindset.

I like seeing other people be honest about their stuff, and I think it builds more credibility when they talk about things in the future, so I try to emulate that too.
      I sure hope so!

Hey Nick! Enjoyed the shop tour thanks for sharing. My shop is also in the basement and I can relate to the ceiling height although I think mine might be a little taller. But having had a garage workshop and a freestanding shop it’s nice to be able to just go downstairs and start to work..Shops are always a work in progress, based on workflow and what’s comfortable. Best of luck in the new year I’m looking forward to following a long. Stay safe! ✌️

Thanks for the watch and comment. I've worked in garage shops that were much bigger, which is nice. But finally having my own space where I can organize how I like + heated is a blessing. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing man, I’ve got a small basement only under a portion of my house, with 6’ ceilings. At 6’02” it makes it pretty uncomfortable to be in there. Been contemplating whether I can set something up down there

    • @nwbuilds

Glad you found some value here. I can't remember the video, but I remember seeing a guy set up a shop in a crawl space, where he adjusted the height of everything so that he would always work from a rolling shop stool.

  • @ice4142

Regarding your dust extraction improvements. As you are in a basement can you add a lean to or shed somewhere on your property and then add ducting through a window or other opening? This would essentially move the size and noise of the extractor out of the shop. The only issue I see with this is in the winter it would also remove all the warm air which I guess would be a problem in the Michigan. I'm from the UK but i know it gets cold there. thanks for the video.

    • @nwbuilds
      @nwbuilds  Před 3 lety +1

That's a great idea, ATG! Unfortunately, where my shop is in the basement and the size of my lot, that's not really an option.
I've actually ordered a rolling dust collector, and plan on putting in a few different small sections of piping so it can hook up to a few "groups" of tools at once.
      Thanks for the suggestion though!
