      Nunez keeps robbing other players of assists, especially Salah. I don't care that he bring chaos and fun. The fact that Curtis missed that sitter, isn't what bothers me due too his lack of experience but Nunez should convert his chances.

      Lol this isn't losing form, it's simply the players being idiots when it comes to finishing. The team is doing their jobs perfectly and playing very well, but 2-3 of their players are not making sure the collective effort is worth it. These players are effectively taking sole responsibility for spoiling Klopp's going away party.

    Mané and Firmino never got replaced. The amount of time the midfield has been robbed of assists because of these shambolic attackers is unbelievable. Same with Salah, he came back from injury, misses balls but still delivers fantastic passes which could have been easily converted to assists if these lot could finish. I know Nunez brings firepower, excitement, speed etc but its becoming tiring that this guy misses chances which even Maguire would score.

    During Mo Salah's absence at the AFCON tournament in January, and also his subsequent injury layoffs, Liverpool played 12 games in the Premier League, FA cup and League cup competitions. Without Salah they won 10, drew 1 and lost 1 scoring 33 goals at an average of 2.75 goals per game, and a win rate of 83%. He came back for the Brentford game on 17th February as a sub for Jota after 44 minutes, but then due to injury didn't play again until the away leg to Sparta Prague on 7th March, when he came on as a sub after 74 minutes. Since then, and including the Brentford game, Liverpool played 10 games in the PL, FA cup and Europa League. They won 5, drew 2 and lost 3, a win rate of only 50%, including two easy games against Sparta Prague. They scored 26 at an average of 2.6 per game, not significantly different than without Salah, but that tally includes 11 against Sparta Prague. In those 10 games Salah scored 7 goals, including a hat-trick against Sparta Prague.
    Obviously the drastic discrepancy in performance and results are not exclusively down to Mo Salah, but it does demonstrate the law of diminishing returns, probably related to his recent injuries and also low energy associated with fasting during the period of Ramadan from the 10th of March until the 9th of April. It begs the question why he started so many of those games during that fasting period, and why he played 90 minutes against Crystal Palace, when he was largely ineffective and struggling with many basic aspects of the performance. Considering the vast array of physiology and sports science data available to the club it is surprising and disappointing those issues do not seem to have been identified or addressed!

    • @andaredvex
      @andaredvex Před 18 dny +8

      I was wondering the same thing. And I also think Mo Salah's presence on the field makes teamplay worse. Everyone starts looking for him on the pitch instead of looking for the person in the best position. And Mo in the last couple of games was shooting a lot from distance as well when a pass to a team mate in a better position would have been the more obvious choice.

    Every time I see Diaz-Nunez-Salah I get a bad feeling. And that feeling only got worse when we conceded our customary early goal.
    Nunez is much more effective on the left or off the bench. Salah is way off the pace, and Diaz can run all day but misses so many chances.
    All of our front five are good players, but we need at least two new forwards next season if we want to compete for titles.

      Salah should've only played the 2nd half whilst Nunez shouldn't be the one playing. Salah in this match and all our previous ones, actually gives ridiculous passes which could have been easily converted if these attackers could finish including Diaz against City. Salah is out of form due too the injury he suffered but he still gives passes that split the midfield. Jota should get his chance over Nunez and I don't care how much the guy has cost us, he shouldn't be playing if his misses are that absurd. Salah's misses were due too saves from defenders or him being to slow (out of form). Nunez misses are worse in my opinion and Salah should get back to full 90 min very soon.

    The manager has had a nightmare with team selection. In his whole time at the club I've never questioned him before until he started Endo today. It's also the first time I thought maybe he's leaving at the right time with a decision like that. My heart sank when I seen the teamsheet before kickoff. Less than 3 days ago the fella was goosed when Atalanta targeted him, and he starts against Palace, another team who targeted him previously. Freshness, energy, mobility, things Klopp strives for, and yet he neglected all that. That DM position is crucial as the anchor of the team. It needs energy and athleticism, someone with mobility who screens the defence, tracks runners, puts out fires (especially in the chaos of a Klopp team), and gives the advanced midfielders the freedom to attack without having to constantly worry about staying close to protect the DM's lack of mobility. Endo wouldn't get in a top ten side in the PL, he wouldn't get in the Palace midfield that's for sure as knowing his weakness they went after him again. To neglect that position has ultimately cost us as we are wide open infront of the defence and as a result we routinely go behind, and having to constantly play catch up in games puts extra strain/pressure on the attackers. With no defensive solidity from midfield we are vulnerable in every game. Mac, Dom and Curtis are the best midfield three (Harvey as sub), and while it's not ideal having Mac in the 6 its alot better than carrying a fella who can't track runners and puts the whole team under pressure. Our four best years under Klopp defensively was 2018 to 2022, prime Fabinho. When he fell off a cliff, we fell off a cliff. He's brought in advanced midfield players to do the running but that can't make up for the slow 30 year old fella in behind them. The gaping hole in midfield against Man U when they went 2-1 up, he's just not got the mobility to cover the ground. So passive, and that first half had his name all over it. Like Newcastle away (in his first start) we were transformed today when he went off, the energy level ramped up. The Endo experiment is over, and sadly with it Klopp's era.

    Teams have figured it out: go along the wings to avoid the counterpress from midfield, go behind the defence to either pull VVD and Konate out of position or force them to retract towards goal, opening space in the middle for a player to arrive at the D to slot it in. Atalanta did the same thing. Endo and Macca are not athletic enough to track roving players.

      Glasner has definitely taken more than one page out of Gasperini's book. The same Palace team could not do one tenth of this last week against City and yet, today an out of position Lerma and Anderson played like prime defenders.
      Glasner realized if he can man-mark like Atalanta did perfectly, Liverpool are weak enough to concede at some point. We were lucky it was only 1 thanks to Robbo's clearance and Alisson's save. Could have been worse.
