  • 👉🏼 This week we upgrade our tow hitch to the new Weigh-Safe weight distribution hitch. Hopefully it will take the last little bit of sway on our travel trailer.

    The threaded connector you used on your chain that is attached to the trailer only has a 3300 lbs rating. I made that mistake when I installed our Hitch. I ended buy a 11,000 lbs 1/2” turnbuckle. Good luck everyone.

      Actually you are incorrect. I specifically ordered these and they are are rated at 10000 lbs each.

      @@stevevetter8045 yes I did the same thing. I actually called them and talked to them before I purchased to make sure it would work. My biggest issue is the shank that they sell with the WDH only comes in a 6” & 8” drop. I really need a 4”. I have talked to them several times about coming out with a 4” but currently it is still not offered. With the camper it’s not an issue as I use it in the rise position but my other trailer I have to use in the drop position and if I have to go off road it will sometimes bottom out.

    I just use scent free and dye free detergents to wash my clothes and play the wind. The only gimmick I use is a "bedding" scent that I put on my boots on the way to my stand. First day I used I I had 4 doe come down that trail and pick up any of my scent. It probably doesn't help that much but it's not expensive and is kinda like my lucky superstition that I always have in my hunting pack.

    Hello can you measure from the receiver pin hole that connects though the truck hitch to the center of the ball?
    Thanks

    @stevevetter8045 Před rokem

    Question you use the same shank for the WDH and the other hitch?
    In other words if I purchase the WDH and I already have the standard weigh safe
    Can I just unlock the WDH and leave it in the truck to use the standard hitch

    • @OurRoundaboutLife
      @OurRoundaboutLife  Před rokem +1

      Yes that is correct. When I bought the WDH I bought just the regular weigh safe ball and just change it out for use on my 7’x14’ trailer where I don’t need the WDH part.

    • @OurRoundaboutLife

      It helped with the porpusing a lot but we still had sway especially right at 70 mph. We still think the problem may be the design of this camper. It has a rear kitchen which we think may be putting too much weight behind the axle. Turns out they only made this model a couple of years and then discontinued it. So we are not ready to say that the sway problem is all on the hitch. The new weigh safe did make improvements from where it was but it did not eliminate as much as we had hoped. We are going to a Grand Design rally later in the year and hope to be able to talk to Grand Design about the issue and get some answers. We are also looking to upgrade to a F250 to see if a bigger truck will help. If all else fails we will probably be trading for a new camper.

    Did you all do a follow-up vid on how the hitch pulled. I noticed you had a Grand Design and I'm looking at the same RV but pulling with a tundra (noticed you had an F-150), so the hitch to me is probably one of the most important thing as it distributes the weight and my truck is totally in specs with that trailer/those models (7500 GTWR, around 700 hitch weight). I've seen those vids on the WDH hitches and was looking at this one more than any. Wanted to get your thoughts on it! Thanks!!

    • @OurRoundaboutLife
      @OurRoundaboutLife  Před 5 měsíci +3

      We mentioned it on other videos but I don’t think we did a video just on how it towed. I will tell you it helped with the porpusing but we did not see any help with the sway. We have been very disappointed in the weigh safe overall and are currently looking into new hitches. As we get older it is getting harder to deal with the bars. We are currently looking at the B&W continuum hitch and are also looking at some of the air hitches like the shocker and air safe. If it wasn’t so expensive we might try the pro pride hitch. But it has a lot of moving parts which concerns me with maintenance and wear over the years. We like the idea of the air ride hitches as they should help absorb some of the roughness of the roads. But they still need some type of sway control added to them which adds to the overall cost and I’ve spoken to both and neither will currently work with the B&W continuum mainly just because it is so new and different it hasn’t been tested with them yet. I wish I had better advice on a great hitch but they all have their pros & cons. If money isn’t a concern pro pride is probably the best hitch on the market.

      @@mgebhar good luck and we would love to hear what you end up choosing. Oh and I forgot to mention weigh safe has since discontinued the hitch we have. @@OurRoundaboutLifeI had a 32 ft pull type camper I could never get that thing to quit swaying unless it was totally calm out, sometimes you just got to write it up as the camper I tried everything I even pulled it with three different F-150s one was a Max tow SuperCrew 6.5 long bed which had the longer wheelbase didn't matter that camper just did not pull good

  • @xgomz
    @xgomz Před 2 lety +1

    Yeah, having a WD hitch that's putting too much weight to the rear is going to cause issues. That's how you get the bad kind of sway. You'd be better off with no WD at all. Reading your other comment about a rear sink you may even need to add some weight up front. There's an awesome video somewhere, I'd find it and link it but YT deletes comments that link other videos so it'd be a waste anyway, but in the video the guy puts a model truck and trailer on a treadmill and then slowly adds weight to the rear of the trailer until it just goes into a full swing. Definitely better to be tongue down a little and have your trailer balanced to be slightly front heavy, too.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS HITCH AND COMPANY!! This hitch is installed on my Jayco 330 RSTS and due to it’s limited adjustability between the spring arms and spring arm platform it does not provide enough friction to control my trailer sway. Contacted Weigh-Safe and they were of no help basically blowing me off without even attempting to help provide a solution. Will be buying a new hitch as this one is too dangerous to use for my camper.

      @OurRoundaboutLife  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes I agree with you. I have contacted their customer service multiple times and they are useless. I wish we had went with the pro pride hitch. Yes it’s way more expensive but I just wasted nearly $1000 on this hitch.

      I don't think it's that fair to blame them. If you do your research it tells you the measurements that you need so you can look for things in the way.

      @@Robert-WeThePeople Did my research before I bought and actually called Weigh-Safe to make sure it would work with my camper and truck. Told them what model camper I had and they told me it would work fine. I ordered directly from the company. I understand we are all human and mistakes happen, but companies need to stand behind their product and what they tell their customers. There is nothing that is in the way of this setup, there is just not enough adjustment in it to allow for proper installation for my particular camper. It’s probably a good hitch for most applications, but not mine. Their customer service didn’t want to be bothered with me and did not attempt to work with me to find a solution. I sent pics as well as asked about a longer sway arm platform that would allow me the proper adjustment. I have emails from them stating that the way mine is setup actually provides more friction and sway control which directly contradicts what is published in their installation manual. The amount of trailer sway with their hitch is way too dangerous for me to continue to use. I will probably go back to an Equalizer brand.
