    • @VGBrothers
      @VGBrothers Před 6 lety +17

      oxysz "They do not wear G-suits because the air bladders inside repeatedly deflate and inflate, interfering with that stability. To prevent blood from pooling in their legs, Blue Angel pilots have developed a method for tensing their muscles to prevent blood from pooling in their lower extremities"

      The fact that they’re STILL able to pull off these maneuvers without g-suits tells you that they’ve perfect up-top breathing to both a science and an art form. Considering that they do this act like 20 times a year touring all over the country? That’s just boss level flying, man.

    • @brianm7879
      @brianm7879 Před 5 lety +3

      @@oxysz Because the inflation and deflation of the suit would interfere with the precision dexterity needed for this maneuvering.

    As a child, I worshiped these pilots and still do today. I used to play a Blue Angels simulator game in DOS as a 9-year-old child, practicing complicated maneuvers in the game's simulator-within-the-simulator before flying in actual air shows in an F-18. I wanted to be a pilot then and I still do. I hope that happens some day. Money's the main thing. Cool thing about doing it in the military is they pay for you to get the best flight training in the world. I imagine this video would give anyone pause to consider at least some of the choices they've made in life. Aviation is a miracle and I really enjoyed the chance to see the miracle workers up close and personal.

    Just wanted to clear a few things up for anyone else viewing this video. The video is of a passenger, not a pilot. Pilots are wearing their gold helmets during this show. Hence the reason for the gum chewing and looking in a direction a pilot would not be looking. I am kind of wondering if the passenger is even wearing a properly fitted G-suit, since he seems to be hitting the M-1 at lower G loads. I usually didn't have to go to the M-1 until about 4Gs w/o G-suit and about 6 with a G-suit.

I loved seeing some of the more violent wind perturbations they manage while flying in formation, as well as the speed they approach the group while trying to regain formation (seems unreal how fast they "stop" after approaching that quickly). Thanks for posting.

    • @gradytalbot2018
      @gradytalbot2018 Před 9 lety +1

      1. If you have motion sickness, you wouldn't get out of pilot training, and if somehow you did, you wouldn't make it through fighter training.
      2. That is the pilot, the team (leader, left and right wingmen, and slot) all fly single seat versions - look at the video. Besides, who would want an extra body back there disrupting your thought processes while undergoing a show? Just wouldn't happen.
      3. Pretty much all fighter pilots learn how to open the eustachian tube by using a muscular throat maneuver that pops open the cover to the eustachian tube (the tube that leads from your throat to the inner ear.) If you can't do that, then you could use the "valsalva maneuver" to accomplish the same thing. Chewing gum is just a shorthand way of doing it if you can't do it automatically.

    • @StratoArt
      @StratoArt Před 9 lety +1

      the video is inside a 2-seater F/A-18D, that's the guy in the back, a ride-a-long. You can see the pilot's ejection seat in the reflection of his visor. The guy in the video is not the pilot. There's two cameras, one facing the back seater, and one facing forward seeing the pilot. The gum is usually given to those who take a ride in the back.

    I know he's clenching at 0:54 to keep the g-forces from draining the blood out of his head, but it really looks like he's constipated and trying very hard to force out a shit, lol.

    the music and edits make this hard to watch. The raw footage with smart cuts between the forward and rear views would've been perfect. If you have the raw footage with ambient audio and radio comms, I beg you....republish it.

    I love the bit at 1:28 where you can see the other three planes in the pilot's visor and then watch them disappear one by one. That was very cool indeed.
    I've never had the opportunity to see the Blue Angels (I'd absolutely love to) but I have seen the Red Arrows (the Royal Air Force equivalent) a couple of times in England and it was an amazing experience. These pilots are incredibly skilled and flying amazing machines. I would absolutely love to fly in something like this even though I know I'd probably pass out and throw up.

    Is this doesn't get anyone pumped up to be a pilot, I don't know what will. Obviously, the odds of being a Blue Angel are probably worst than winning the lottery, but it's such a blessing to watch these guys every time they come to Seattle.
