That's right, he's very grounded and still goes home every chance he gets. This song was so sad since his brother died while he was away. I hope BEP will make a strong comeback.
I'm not the biggest Black Eyed Peas fan, but this song is so beautiful. It bring tears to my eyes everytime i hear it. It's so cool that Fergie, Will.i.am and Taboo gave this space to Apl express his feelings in this song. Much respect
Apl is the only Filipino in the US who became big who didn't use his heritage as a "props" nor was he ashamed of it. For someone who left the Philippines at age 11, it's amazing he still speaks Tagalog AND Kapampangan. Many 1.5 generation lose their heritage..and he's the only one who seems to be not hesitant to have Tagalog in their album.
I'm not Filipino but I can feel the raw emotion of this song. It was always my favorite song on the album. Even though I can't understand the language I can feel the amount of homesickness in his words, such a beautiful song 💜
This song was dedicated for his dead brother which committed suicide and he regretted that he wasn't there to help him. That's also why he mentioned that it's been awhile since he returned to his homeland.
Here listening in 2024. We Nagas knows how to find a good song. This song really was a bump in those oldays im 26years now and this shit still hits hard.

We came from the same school Holy Angel University, Apl de ap is a good boy then, he was in high school, I was in college, I see him running around the school, a very active boy struggling to blend-in, he was often discriminated because of his color, but God is good he was blessed. There is a building in that school dedicated to his name!!!!😊😊😊
I wouldn't say that discriminated is the appropriate word. He was teased, as teasing is a favorite past time of Filipinos. Everyone gets teased in RP for a good laugh, and some more than others.
The Black Eyed Peas saw the noise of the world (social media, work, entertainment) made impactful relationship hard to foster since 2004. That is wild.
“He has lost two of his siblings: his younger brother Arnel committed suicide (this is referenced in "The Apl Song" in the lines "I guess sometimes life's stresses get you down on your knees/Oh brother, wish I could have helped you out"). His youngest brother, Joven Pineda Deala, was murdered at the age of 22 in February 2009 in Porac.Pampanga” I found in wiki so sad
What I like most abt this group is that 1) Apl is always proud of his home country that he even wrote a song abt Phils and included it in their album, and 2) he was supported by everyone in his group and even participated in his songs/MVs. One of the reasons why Philippines love BEP. And of course, their awesome songs that never fails to leave a mark in Filipinos' hearts.💯
At 2:42 when he said "I guess sometimes life's stresses get you down, on your knees oh brother wish I could have helped you out". He was literally talking about his brother who committed suicide.

Here’s the translation of the Philippine part of the song from a friend: “Come around friends and listen, I’ve some news coming from the land I was born, I want to share the stories and what’s happening in the promised land” From what I was told by a friend from the Philippines (who I served with in the first Gulf War), this song was originally about the Islamic rebellion in the southern part of the country in the 70’s. It was like brother against brother and blood against blood and it’s still going for almost 50 years now. I don’t know who’s the band that originally performed it but I think I’ve heard it before about 20 or so years ago when I visited him and his family in Escondido.
@@canto10mosha65 nice one. But as a Filipino, I think a more accurate translation would be: Come closer my friends and listen I’m bringing news from my homeland I want to share the stories Of the incidents that are happening In the Land of Promise.

This song reminds me of being young in high school in the late 2000s. A school friend I had at the time showed & taught me this song. I am Mexican & have always been fascinated by cultural differences, languages, foreign food etc.

I just heard this song for the first time today! 😭 why have I been missing out on such good music… whhhhhyyyyy?!?!? But so glad it played today!! ♥️♥️♥️
Wow I was a HUGE Black Eyes Peas fan in the early 2000s and I had no idea they ever made a music video for this song. They never played it on MTV or other cable music networks so there wasn’t really a way to see it back then. This was surprising to learn about 20 years later...

Beautiful song that echo's the sentiments of everyone who ever left home seeking a better life and those loved ones left behind. I'm the youngest of 4 kids and the only girl. The boy's are 7,8 and 9 years older than I. My oldest brother protected me as much as possible from the poison that was our reality of a home life and when ever possible would take me everywhere with him. We had a mum and dad, lived in a nice neighbourhood but inside the house was our "getto" our dad was great when sober but drunk - the most vile evil person appeared and no one escaped the violence. My brother had enough by the time he was 20 told mum was leaving Scotland for Australia ( he had his 21st birthday on the way there) I remember entering the room oblivious to either, and hearing him tell mum I was only 11 years old and the only person who ever loved me in my family and me them was going forever, the tears were falling down my face as I silently cried, I didn't want them to hear me so I left the room quietly. I didn't want to ruin my brothers new beginning by loading him up with guilt. Fortunately we have close family in Australia who made him feel like he really belonged there, or I've no doubt he would have returned home. Although it was a long time until I saw my brother again, the only time I feel at home is when I travel to Australia to see him. A few years ago I told him and our cousin about overhearing him telling mum he was leaving and about my crying, he said he wished all those years that he'd just stuck me into his backpack and had taken me with him. Home really is where ever your family are.
iiFinalBullet Thank you, the one's that have suffered are my 3 brothers, as they have been around longer and seen more. I have a good life, home, career and husband, although he can be grumpy, he means well, and I've got my beautiful cats. I hope you have a good life too :D
just discovering this now and what an incredible song!! apl repping his people and telling his story through such a catchy and wonderful hit! love it!!
The song is about Apl's early life in the Philippines where he grew up. The music video is about a Filipino veteran living in a nursing home here in the US for all those asking questions about this song.
This song brings tears to my eyes when I think of a Filipina friend, a fellow nanny, who is trapped in a Qatari Sheikh's household, working 24/7 looking after a little prince but earning a pittance... all so that she can provide her little boy back home with a future. She's sacrificing her life for him.

“Come around friends and listen,

A few years ago I told him and our cousin about overhearing him telling mum he was leaving and about my crying, he said he wished all those years that he'd just stuck me into his backpack and had taken me with him. Home really is where ever your family are.
Sad story, but I hope you stay strong and have a great life ahead of you. It may get dark sometimes, but the sun is shining out there.
iiFinalBullet Thank you, the one's that have suffered are my 3 brothers, as they have been around longer and seen more. I have a good life, home, career and husband, although he can be grumpy, he means well, and I've got my beautiful cats. I hope you have a good life too :D
***** No both parent have died now. Thank you for caring ;D

just discovering this now and what an incredible song!! apl repping his people and telling his story through such a catchy and wonderful hit! love it!!
What an excellent song. It's a true story connected to every Filipino especially to Apl.♥️
The song is about Apl's early life in the Philippines where he grew up. The music video is about a Filipino veteran living in a nursing home here in the US for all those asking questions about this song.
Why does such a meaningful song has only less than a hundred million views while non-sense songs nowadays are above a hundred million views...
I haven't heard this song for 13 years and now this bring back memories of my childhood❤
I remember this song and started to see this as a very sad truth of the Filipino veteran going to the state and ended up in a home for the aged .
So true. She was like my mother 😢
Help her out then
Respect for her, still they should pay her salary as much they value the little prince,
That’s so sad I’m so sorry love from Bosnian arab
I swear that is so sad and heartwarming Black Eyed Peas is gold and top number one
I’m from SF Bay Area, thx bro from paying homage to our Filipino culture and family. God bless and keep you. Stay true
