Opiates were used in older drugs to numb pain. So in other words he saw religion merely as a means people use for dealing with hardship. Marx didn’t acknowledge differences between religions from this statement, thus conflating what general effect religions may have on the masses. Jesus is the Balm of Gilead and our reason for living.

That Marx quote is 100% correct. Religion blinds people from the real world and they doesn't fight a good fight for righteous fight for example for opressed people but tries to make people blinded too. There are absolutely zero reasons for not to fight that righteous fight even if you are religious person because all we can lost is our chain's. And other things from many choices that religion can blinds from is science and scientific worldview which is only thing in this universe that can be trusted not because it's 100% right but because it explains and gives theories how the universe works way no religion can answer. And third point that I want to give is that if you get from somewhere ideas that something is correct you don't develop healthy scepticism to everything.

Its not like shes the only one in this kind of situation.
She gets charged around 8,000 a month after the 80% (which she has no way of ever paying back) . Like how does this work. Am I supposed to not support any government action that would lower costs because voting for democrats is apparently bad? Would i be restricting the freedoms of the clinic if they were charging more than was necessary and someone took action? Am I supposed to encourage other people to open multiple competing clinics that charges sick, desperate people cause the market supposedly solves everything? Theres only so much demand for dialysis in a rural area.
Some American Christians will just tell me "oh we live in a fallen world" like i should just accept it.
I mean there are serial killers because we live in a fallen world. Sooooo we shouldn't do anything? We should just let greedy predators do what they want because its evil or something if we do?
Then theyll accuse you of being envious of these people. Theyll accuse you of all sorts of things. Tell you YOURE the greedy person. You cant possibly be angry or sad at actual hurt or injustice and if you are youre sinning. Theyll try to manipulate you into voting for parties that are funded by these criminals because if you dont "youre not being a light in the darkness,".

@@anonymousdontbotheraboutit2895The following scriptures confirm hell and the lake of fire will be forever and ever. The soul never ceases to existence.
By comparison to eternal life with God, how is that fair to those that if you will, pardon the term, drag Christ's sacrifice, death and resurrection through the mud don't receive just judgement for denying God and Jesus.
I suppose the point is that the eternal flame prepared for Satan and the angels that followed him, they will not burn up and experience eternal flame, torment and punishment for eternity however it really doesn't make sense the scriptures in the Bible about the soul never dying.
      Matthew 22:23-33 (verse 30)
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but (V) are like angels of God in heaven.
      (V) 1 John 3:2
2 Beloved, (A)now we are children of God; and (B) it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, (C) we shall be like Him, for (D) we shall see Him as He is.
      (A) Isaiah 56:5, Romans 8:15-16
      (B) Romans 8:18-19, Romans 8:23
      (C) Romans 8:29, 2 Peter 1:4
      (D) Psalm 16:11
The above scriptures have even more cross references to look up. Following all of them reveals the answer. To do this for you in one post would be a novel. It all ties together throughout God's love letter to mankind.
As I read about the rich man cast into Hades in torment (Luke 16:19-31) only to be completely consumed when Hades is cast into the eternal flame prepared for Satan and his angels. (Revelation 20:14-15)
What of those who die just before Christ returns?
They will not have been in torment as long as the rich man.
      Matthew 10:28
28 (A)And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather (B) fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
      (A) Luke 12:4,1 Peter 3:14
      (B) Isaiah 8:13, Matthew 5:22, Luke 12:5
      Daniel chapter 1 (whole chapter)
      2 Thessalonians 1:3-12 (key verse 9)
      Revelation 14:1-13 (key verses 10 & 11
      Revelation chapter 20
      Matthew 25:46
Psalm chapter 76 (key verse 10)
      Deuteronomy 32:3-5
      John chapter 3; verses 16, 18 and 36
Of course I encourage reading the verses before and after for full context, better yet the entire chapter.
The Bible is very clear about eternal life and eternal punishment. God has shown just how much He loves mankind through sacrificing His only begotten son.
For those that deny God and Christ receive justice for that denial. For those that read this post; study it for yourself, so you'll know the truth through God's Holy Word and the greatest love letter ever written to mankind.

They get people to pay them to make them feel good about God whether they should or not. But we all eventually have to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, even with God's grace.

Marx spoke out against organised religion in all forms, so despite his christian upbringing, in his adult life it's safe to say he had no religious affiliation. Not sure where you get that his 'real name' is Moses; his grandfather was a rabbi, but his father converted to protestantism when he married Karl Marx' mother. Not that any of that matters, but I can't find any historic reference for your claim.

Hm, disappointing my first post someone got deleted even tho it was fully viewable for a while... ill try again then and assume it was a mistake and nothing more.
First of all this is the full quote as its important to take it in context - "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people."
What Marx meant by this is basically that religion offers disadvantaged people something to fall back on during hard times, something to find strength and solace in. Something to get them through their hardships and offer them hope when they are hopeless to see them through. A sentiment i think even most Christians would agree with and most atheist would as well as a role of religion.
We can go on from here, and talk about if religion is the only, or even the best source of this hope, or even if religion is true at all; but his original statement is pretty much dead on to what religion can offer to people. People see the word "opiate" and take it all out of context and think its just some derogatory comment comparing religion to a drug people use to get high or abuse. Its not. As with all things looking into things with greater context is really, really important.

God would have to take some pretty wicked actions to punish people eternally for not conforming to the word of so many generations of corrupt leaders and tyrants. Sorry, not for me. I believe God IS love and doesn't have the violent, oppressive traits that humans do. He probably wouldn't condone leading people with fear and violence and require death and destruction in exchange for peace. That sounds like a demon...

@@dawnb8906 This reminds me of part of a show the British mentalist Derren Brown did. Basically he got a woman and told her him and his film crew and actors would do little "interventions" into her life. That the cameras would be unseen and the actors would pretend to be normal people, but throughout the month they would subtly intervene in her life to teach her small lessons. At the end of the month she sat back down with Derren and they talked about her experiences. She said she noticed multiple times where actors, posed as every day people in her life, did little things around her for the program. And she talked about how she thought these littler interactions were teaching her to be more open to people, to be more friendly, to make changes in herself. She felt she really grew from Derren helping her but intervening in her daily life.
The kicker was, Derren had NO ONE following her. No actors, no cameras, nothing. Everything she thought was part of Derren's crew trying to "teach her lessons about herself" was just her normal every day life. But because she had the expectation there was more behind these random encounters, she assigned them agency when there was none.
People do this all the time, we look for patterns and reasoning behind things because it makes us feel better about ourselves. We assign agency when there is none. Like, for example, assuming a simple YT algorithm is actually Jesus trying to get a message across.

@@anonymousdontbotheraboutit2895 Well it is a "difference" that doesn't make it any better. One might argue eternal nothingness is even worse than eternal torment. Nothing is worse than not existing and to some people they'd be willing to suffer if only to exist. But I see no way eternal nothingness would ever be possible for anyone to experience. It simply isn't possible even if there were such a thing as a soul (which there likely isn't) that could be destroyed.
And what point is there sending people to hell if they just stop existing? Nothing they did would be paid back because it would be like the consequences for their actions would be gone since they would not exist to remember the consequences of them. It would be no different from not sending them to hell and having them just stay dead. They won't remember being in hell or anything else, making hell redundant and pointless.
