What's your favourite Karl quote?
“I could eat a knob at night”
Tough decision, but it's probably this
"To see at night as well as an owl, you'd need eyes the size of grapefruits. If only Steve could turn his head right round as well"
"Am I in charge of me brain, or is me brain in charge of me?"
Not a quote per se but the little bit he did about bullshit man was epic
How would I know witch one was me
"Brains are supposed to be hungry for knowledge. Mine just wants sausages." - Karl Pilkington
"I think you've hit a lung" -Karl Pilkington

I met Karl Pilkington back in 2015 when he was doing a signing for his latest book at the time, I queued for 2 hours in the rain and when it got to my turn he asked how long I'd been waiting for, when I told him he said. " Why'd you wait that long for me there's better books out there!" I knew then he was probably the most honest and sincere person I've ever met without him ever realizing it
i used to work in a coffeeshop about a year ago he came in and he was such a nice person, didnt expect it tbh.
Turns out... little monkey fella. Weird, innit?
what did u tell him? i would've said "there.. that's why" lol
To quote Ricky Gervais:
"Karl is accidentally the funniest person in the world."
I've read all of Karl's books and watched all his series. He comes out with some gems of wisdom and really isn't an idiot, he just struggles to express himself fully. He's a very wholesome guy.
Guys a legend
Which is the best book ?
He's the most inarticulate genius in the woirld
@@barryallen6744 The memoirs from the TV shows give great insight.
You must be a fool then
That wasn't a picture of Suzanne btw, that was Karl with Jo Whiley.
Dang. I thought I had finally seen Suzanne after all these years hearing about her.
Good to see you here
I thought it was Dave hill from slade
Yeah it's honestly impressive she's managed to avoid being snapped all this time
Your vids are amazing bro
He’s a lovely bloke, humble and donates a lot to charity
But a lot of charities he donates too end up being con jobs
She’s got a tan!
@@jakesmith-bs4jd shorts mans balls were out that much they had a tan
That’s because he’s got standing orders for about 10 different charities that harassed him while he was on his way to work. If he ever goes to Africa and can’t find a wrench he’ll be livid.
No no not giving any more money away, sick of it
lmao that ending clip is perfect.
"You are the strangest man on the planet."
"...You haven't been to China."
The China episode of Idiot Abroad is nothing short of phenomenal.
Listened to the XFM shows and podcasts pretty much every night until i fall asleep for years. Still has me in tears laughing to this day. Actual genius.
Man moth? 😂

Nice
I met Karl a few years ago as I worked in a coffee shop that was around the corner from his office. He’s such a genuine and lovely guy, also incredibly polite. But I can confirm, he’s exactly the same person I watched on An Idiot Abroad!
Something I have to give Karl credit for is that he's pretty adventurous these days. For a guy known as the grumpiest of Mancs that didn't want to do anything besides fix stuff around his house, he did his own travel show with two series of Moaning of Life (which went in a different direction than Idiot Abroad), had his own surprisingly effective dramedy with Sick of It, and now is actually a full fledged actor in stuff like Rain Dogs and The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
Pretty impressive progress for the little round headed buffoon that is Karl Pilkington.
Good. He deserves the best. I'd love to have a pint with him someday
I live abroad and don't watch TV anyway but he's done serious acting as he? Lol fair play Karl
I was impressed at his acting in ,"the thief his wife and the canoe" I absolutely forgot about it being Karl within seconds.
I spent many hours high af watching the Ricky Gervais show and laugh my ass off. By far the best podcast that's ever been made and ever will be made
It is, and yet it still pales in comparison to the XFM shows that preceded it. It's a lot like the book/film dichotomy, and it kind of kills me that most people won't read the book.
I think if people start at series 2, then save series 1 for when they reach the end, it's much more accessible. There's more of a long running arc to the radio shows, and series 1 takes a while to transition from the hit & miss Ricky & Steve show to the Karl driven cult phenomenon it grows into.
First ever podcast, if I’m not mistaken.
@@RiC_David have you read Carl's books ?
@petah I think its the first podcast done by celebrities.
O&A had some pretty good shows too !😊
It’s about time we got a Karl documentary. Great work man
thanks for watching man!
Mr. Dilkington is my favorite person. just did my daily search of karl on yt and found this! all new karl content is good content.
Have you seen any of me "Karl in a song" videos? They keep getting blocked for copyright though.

I'm not sure Jo Wiley would be happy if she knew she was being identified as Suzanne?!
I still listen to the old XFM radio clips on CZcams pretty much every night. There is no one funnier than Karl for me personally. The amount of brilliant lines he comes out with is ridiculous lol
Old man eating a twix
Brits are easily pleased
Karl's dad is an absolute legend! Feel like I know so much about him just from the xfm days
Mate this vid was amazing, some things in here which I never knew. Such a great watch…thank you for making this. ❤️ I’ve followed Karl every since ‘An Idiot Abroad’ back in 2010. And since then have watched and read everything them three have put out. I met Stephen in 2015 after a stage play. He gave me 15-20 mins of his time. Such a genuine person, my dream is to meet the other two. 🤞🏻 Every night I listen to the old XFM pods in bed. Hopefully one day we’ll get them three cross paths again. Currently waiting on Ricky’s Armageddon tour in London.
Thank you mate, appreciate you watching!
Karls biggest fan here. I Literally fall asleep to his old xfm shows every night for the last 5 years, to see this was amazing and the editing was insane. Props to you man, loved all of this
thanks brother! appreciate you watching!
@Never Truly Gone honestly I was getting tempted to do the same until I found some balanced ones re-uploaded to CZcams. Obviously you'll know those last 2-3 seasons aren't as bad when Karl is involved more but in the first few his Mic is leveled so low
@Never Truly Gone that's incredible you spent all that time manually keyframing some parts. It does seem a shame for it to go to waste, does it get picked up by youtubes copyright detection? Like have you tried? Just thinking because obviously CZcams won't run ads on your video unless you monetise it OR it gets detected as copyright material. But I suppose the latter would happen from the amount of already existing re-uploads
I knew his father. He sadly passed away a month ago.
Rest in peace Karl's Dad 😔
Sad. I listen to Karls old radio stuff when I sleep. A lot of us Americans understand he's a genius.
Aw really? That’s a shame.
How old was he?
Aw man such sad news. Hope him and his family are coping as well as they can.
Absolutely fantastic video - I’ve been waiting forever for somebody to put together a video like this. A full history of the XFM show.
Well done man, fantastic work.
One of the most amazing shows to come out of the UK
Karl has helped so many people to be content of what they wanna be (one of them is me), without him even realizing it. When i decided to choose Karl as a role model for me, i cannot tell you how it freed me and how much it decreased my anxiety in almost everything thats going on with my life (from social skills to self control). I cannot be more thankful for someone i haven't even met.
I listen to the XFM shows and their podcasts throughout and when I’m done I just start the journey again absolute timeless comedy gold 😂
Honestly now butt, you’re one of the best youtubers about, your editing and your choice of subject for videos is always spot on, honestly can’t wait until this channel becomes a full time job for you mate
appreciate it big dawg! more and more content coming!
I rewatch the cartoon The Ricky Gervais show all the time and it still makes me howl with laughter. Same with the old Xfm shows lmao. My favourite quotes are "eyes that bulge out of their head....Steve". I do love "me only friend was a calculator", "nah he just said Take ya knickers off !" & "you'd always hear one tinging it's way up the tube!"
This is wonderful. Thank you. I think everyone here leaving comments, love and appreciate Karl so much. It's really lovely to see. I relate to Karl so much. He seems to think in a very similar way to me. I never tire of listening and watching all the shows.❤
If you guys get a chance you should watch that TV episode with Karl’s brother Mark. He’s got the same funny charm about him, and you can see how similar he was to Karl but life took him down a different path.
Hearing him on the radio recently for smarty mobile has been such a nice surprise, I've listened to the podcasts every night for years now and hearing his voice in a normal everyday setting is great haha
Oooo I haven't heard that. Thanks for mentioning it. I will seek it out immediately.
What's this an advert or something?
@@xgtwb6473 yep advert on the radio!
Bl00dy well researched man, this entire video has been absolutely sick. Found myself going "oh wow" - I'd never seen a few of the photos you put in. Absolute legend :)
Great video, I love the KP Plumbing bit with the snow so funny
My brother used to get crazy tattoos. One day I asked him to get a Karl Pilkington tattoo and a week later he had the cartoon Karl tattooed on his arm. Then my brother died in 2022 aged 29, and at his funeral we had a Karl Pilkington flower arrangement made. Now I have to get Karl Pilkington tattooed on me in memory of my brother. 🤣
"Using me fables." Mr K Dilkington
"Use your brain instead!"
Nice, this is a great history of Karl 👍
Thanks mate, love you're videos!
@@phatmemer69 Cheers mate, very kind of you! You've got yourself a new subscriber for sure! Great research, great narration and great production values!
My sister's other half is a camera man and managed to get a job as one off the camera guys for season 1 idiot abroad. He said Karl is amazingly funny and a really genuinely good guy. I think my sister's other half was travelling with Karl and the crew etc for pretty much a year straight
@Dilbot my sister's husband he is a cameraman and has had the luck to be apart off the idiot abroad show. Plus he got to do a few episodes on. The jack Whitehall travels with my father show. Hes been very lucky to have met a few off these people
Phat Memer with the exact videos I want to watch every time
Appreciate you watching bro!
After years of listening to them from the first xfm show it’s amazing to see Pictures of Karl’s life
I have to explain to people that don't like Karl that he's not (or is at least not trying to be) a comedian, he's just a genuine dude that happens to say some of the funniest shit. He's not trying to be edgy when he says something bordering on the offensive, he's being straight honest, like a kid who doesn't know any better who's just saying what's on his mind when asked, and that's why we love him
He's a lot of things, but an idiot is not one of them.
(also btw this was the first of your vids I've seen, was very well done, dude)
great video. glad to see you getting more popular
That’s not Suzanne that’s Jo Whiley on BBC Radio2 when Karl was on her show 😂
I distinctly remember times around the age of 10 or so, where I'd sneak downstairs at 2 in the morning to tune in to TRGS. & the memory that sticks out the most for me was going up to my mum - who absolutely detested the word - & saying "what's a cunt?" after seeing the 'Top Negotiator' bit of a particular episode.
Alright, I’m 23 now and I’ve been watching and listening to all Ricky Gervais related stuff since I was 9 or 10. Best podcast ever made hands down, quote it on the daily
That's not Karl's suzanne.
Thanks for this I've had a strange curiosity about this lore and the people involved in it unknown to me why but yes exactly the content I've been after since the show was over, I deep dived into it having something to do with a podcast then dropped the situation ever since then😂
Great choice of subject, I have a feeling this will be your most popular video. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I loved when he referred to Warwick as "a hindrance" 🤣 so f*cked up but so funny at the same time
Ricky: "How did you end up at the hospital radio, weren't you visiting your dad?"
Karl: "Yeah I got bored"
Ricky: HaAHaAHaHaAHaah
He says so many thought provoking, relatable things. Not only does he see the world differently, I also think he truly sees the world as it is.
This was a great idea for a video and excellently done.
I absolutely love ALL of the stuff this trio worked on! I hope they'd come up with more amazing ideas! 🤣🤣🤣
Loved everything Karl Steve and Ricki worked on, the podcast was the hardest I’ve ever laughed
Listen to the radio shows all the time, love this man
4:42 Chips, fish fingers and baked beans..
That was his meal in After Life after the argument with the waitress
11:33 "...Karl finally had his own show just by being himself. An Idiot abroad..." Good line xD
And cool video, fully explaining Karl's story. He's one of a kind.
'With a head like a fuckin orange' 😂😂😂
That threw me and the vids just started 😂
"Me mam said there was a boat *so* big, it had rough areas on it" - K. Pilkington
Karl has supplied us all with endless entertainment 🙈🙉🙊
I actually love these videos man
Thanks for watching man!
Honestly, I was suspicious how you could possibly condense such an immense story into a 10 minute video, especially conidering all the information out there on Karl (much of which I happen to know as a ridiculously obsessive fan), but fair play Phat Member, this is a very well produced recollection of the story! I enjoyed this.
Karl is a genius the likes of which I doubt we'll ever see again. If anyone hasn't listened to the 100+ hours of xfm tapes and podcasts, then do yourself a favour and start the binge. They are a miracle cure for insomnia and depression.
That's all made me feel rather emotional. Beautiful work.❤
His comedic timing is something you can only learn in a northern English family roasting growing up.
In reference to his Chinese bus driver throwing bits of apple to the bears: "He's got apples but he's not interested. If that was a squid with a tumour on it's head, he'd be tucking in."
Mr K Dilkington
I'm currently going through the old XFM episodes. Walking around in public whilst listening to it isn't the best idea because you look like a crazy person laughing and smiling to yourself.
That'll be interesting for meatballs
Hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaahhh
I love this man! Hes a true joy to watch and makes me laugh no matter how many times i seen him
Great video, lots of interesting points on his life before XFM. Still their best comedic output to date and that says a lot!
Your editing is top drawer. 👌
Excellent Vid as per mate!
thanks for watching Jack!
I have been a Karl fan since xfm days. Fall asleep to the podcasts every night.
You’re securing sponsors now, big W. Keep it up man
4:44 A shame to have cut that clip so short. The ending is brilliant!
I really enjoyed sick of it season 1 and 2. It shows he's actually a talented writer as well as being quick witted in observations
Sick of it was so wholesome
i loved season 1, season 2 was okay but still enjoyable to watch!
Why season? It's a series right? It's British, so British English?
@@gemsandlasers269 oh im just used to saying season for every show. Series to me is the whole thing and a season is like the set of episodes they made at once.
The og radio shows are almost older than me, yet i still listen to them daily, you cannot beat ricky Steve and Karl.
Really well done video mate
Everytime I answer the phone....I always say KP Plumbing 😄
Great vid and very original dig it big time
Thanks for making this video I still listen every night before bed
Comedy gold
For anyone who hasn't listened to those XFM shows, they are (mostly) available on CZcams and are still hilarious 20 years on
Brilliant video . Thankyou
That ending was classic Karl Pilkington 🤣💯
Great. So many photos I haven't seen before.

Yes ! What a good video on a British legend. Karl has never failed to make me laugh no matter what. Bless this man.

alright we'll watch wendys little programme when that goes out then
one of my favourite people i've never met, still listen to the radio shows almost daily
Karl appeared as a cameo in a crime show (I believe on Sky?) as recent as April 2022, that's the last thing I've seen him in. I imagine he'll keep doing odd bits of smaller jobs
BBC. It was The Thief, His Wife, and a Canoe.
He also does the voice over for the Smarty Mobile (I think that's the name) ads
Love this! Love Karl. One of my favourite humans haha! Had to laugh at the picture you showed when mentioning Suzanne, haha thats Jo Wiley pal!
Definitely agree Karl has a lot more contribution to his success than people think.
It’s crazy how I just started watching the “an idiot abroad”series again and you post a video about Karl Pilkington.
NGL this show had me rolling. I binge watched it and i learned alot. I loved it.
Karl is my favourite person ever and all tho I understand the reasoning of the tree not doing projects anymore it's still saddens me greatly.
At least he's not getting his head squoze so often
