Due to the timing of the camera cut & flash of photography you can only really tell when reviewing the footage, at full speed it looks like a successful spot.
Yup. That has always been the biggest advantage of WWF/WWE ever since the mid eighties, their top-of-the-line TV production. No matter what happened in the ring, it always LOOKED so much better than the other promotions.
Traditionally dropkicks land on the chest. Dustin would have thought that was where he was going. It’s really difficult to make a dropkick to the head look good. The trashcan allows it to work. Maven should have conveyed the message if it was an important spot.
Both of you have great points, Holly's dropkick was awesome but Maven's is textbook. It's like video game level good. His form is perfect, delivery is fantastic and kudos to his opponents for selling
90% of the audience in attendance at any WrestleMania cannot do a 6 foot 6 inch standing dropkick to the face. I can do some athletic stuff and I'm still a part of that 90%.
He and lance storm have to be the most underrated in the ring wrestling wise. These guys were too good and it’s a shame people didn’t realize that🤦♂️🤦♂️
In these interviews you can see how funny some of these wrestlers are. Like Maven being this funny irl explains why he was able to pull off his gimmick so easily
That would be gutting. Like missing an open goal. Reminds me of playing Smackdown and Ive built up the match to culminate in a finish through a table but my opponent reverses it and pins me and I dont get the satisfaction of that crisp slam through the table.
It's even worse than missing an open goal, it's like if you had the shot lined up perfectly, but then someone yanked the goal out of place but everyone is mad at you anyway.
Man this comment section is stupid, half the people are blaming/making fun of goldust for the botch, other half blaming maven, it was miscommunication, That is all. Not everything needs to be someone’s fault,
It definitely wasn't Maven's fault, he threw that can exactly where he would land his dropkick, but in all fairness to Dustin, it looks like it almost slipped him and he wasn't lowering it on purpose. Didn't really matter, though, because the production made it barely noticeable anyway.
I don't think this is as bad as it may seem, it's a moving prop that has to be set up perfectly with so many things that can wrong. Any wrestler could make this mistake.
He could've sold the weight of the can and acted like it pushed him back and went off the ropes into the dropkick and it would've probably looked better even if he still missed simply because of the motion of it
Not Maven's fault the spot was missed, but taking the impact of even the accidental force of a jumpkick to the head seems like a bad idea relative to a jump kick to the pecs.
Thing is even back then guys clearly blatantly missed all the time with things and no one gave a shit. For instance the hop on one leg and stomp on a guy where every time he does it he clearly stops his stomp 2 feet above the guys body and it looks like he's just hopping. That and so much more that happened on every show was way worse than this "missed spot"
You can be a great and still mess up. Happens all the time. Honestly, I wager the greatest wrestlers of all time have probably messed up more times than an average wrestler, because they work so much more often. The problem is that Maven got in trouble for something that was very literally and obviously someone else's fault.
I don't get how this was such a big deal, seen so many air punches, moves clearly not connecting, Tombstones where the guy's head is way off the mat, nobody cares, but oh no Maven hit the top of the trash can? Whatever.
Chris just comes across has being fake in his interviews :( it just makes me not wanna watch it, but I love the wrestlers he has on. If he gave a genuine reaction, rather than use people pleasing tactics, I’d be more opposed to watching his stuff
Dustin Rhodes "Goldust" is one of the most underrated best of all time. Maven was just a small flash in the pan. Don't blame him, be a man understand things happen and here the timing was off.

Yeah, Maven shouldn’t have gotten the blame for that. Dusty is a phenomenal talent, but everyone messes up, and he did there.

I agree and I like Dustin but Dustin underestimated Maven's jumping abilities.. So yeah it was Dustin's fault here..
Maven is such a dude. I could listen to him for hours. 💪
He definitely is a dude
I heard somewhere years ago that he also might just be a guy.
Why you calling him an animals foreskin???
I think he's a man
Due to the timing of the camera cut & flash of photography you can only really tell when reviewing the footage, at full speed it looks like a successful spot.
Yup. That has always been the biggest advantage of WWF/WWE ever since the mid eighties, their top-of-the-line TV production. No matter what happened in the ring, it always LOOKED so much better than the other promotions.
Think the camera flashes are in post. To the audience it definitely looked like a whiffed spot but on TV it looked fine
Pshh, with that speed and angle, I never would've noticed had it not been pointed out.
Exactly. Yet every single show they punch and kick air 2 feet away from the other guy and that's all fine and dandy. lol
Maven was also a perfectionist, dude wanted to hit anything he was five out the park. Shows what kind of work ethic you gotta have
Can honestly say it wasn't mavens fault all the way 100 percent
like he said, he should have told him. but having an eye for those details takes experience i guess
Traditionally dropkicks land on the chest. Dustin would have thought that was where he was going. It’s really difficult to make a dropkick to the head look good. The trashcan allows it to work. Maven should have conveyed the message if it was an important spot.

100% on Goldust. You gotta know who you’re in the ring with, everyone knew the one good thing about maven was his drop kick.
90% of the audience in attendance at any WrestleMania cannot do a 6 foot 6 inch standing dropkick to the face. I can do some athletic stuff and I'm still a part of that 90%.
Pretty damn athletic for a school teacher

That dropkick had "no chance!" 😂
Mavens face on LeBron was mad funny 🤣

When I first found mavens channel I wasn’t a big fan, but thru the last few months I’ve been really enjoying his story’s and tales of the ring
Fuckin love ya, Maven ❤
Maven should be doing Color Commentary on RAW
Those guys still sold this very well.
I have Maven just was burying to me, but now I love hearing all his interviews one is the best to tell a story
DAMN TOO ATHLETIC
Maven still has the most perfect drop kick in wrestling imo, I’ve seen literally thousands of them since he did it and it’s not even closw
Like this guy he's always up
Notice Dustin sees and trying to lift his head for it
Mad respect for that.
"Damn it, Raven. I gave the dropkick as your only moveset and you fucked that up".
Tbh no big deal imo. Some of the best wrestlers miss spots. It happens. Pos Vince likely lost his shit though
Maven!
In these interviews you can see how funny some of these wrestlers are. Like Maven being this funny irl explains why he was able to pull off his gimmick so easily
I'd love to see Maven back in wrestling and tv as a manager, would be interesting
In the Spongebob episode Joel referenced, they used the word knave not naive in a funny accent
maven would pass to be Darth Vader
Human imperfection, we are human, don’t beat yourself up too bad
Too damn athletic!!!
Maven looks like a vampire
Anyone remember that time Randy Orton drop kicked someone and landed on his feet and even he was surprised??
Golddust & him got some history now lol Maven for Rhodes family 😅

Maven prolly had the GOAT dropkick.
Vince: Got Dammit Maven!!!
One of the few botches where the camera work saved the spot and you wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the hard cam angle
I never even know about this match ever taking place at a WrestleMania.
I think Gold Dust fumble it a lil bit.
Man this comment section is stupid, half the people are blaming/making fun of goldust for the botch, other half blaming maven, it was miscommunication,
That is all. Not everything needs to be someone’s fault,
To be fair on Goldie: _Who wants to take a Trashcan Dropkick from _*_Maven_*_ to the face?! Gotta stan my boi on this one._
I need to see Maven dunk
After reviewing the footage, there is no way Maven should be blamed for that. That's on Goldie.
Maven was a hidden talent.. They missed used him..
😂 he did that more than you think
Maven was actually right. I never realized Golddust lowered the trash can.

It literally was Goldust's fault but I'm sure he didn't do it intentionally. It probably was just a reflex.
Dropkicks are supposed to hit the chest, not the face. Goldust was right
I like Maven, but he's the one doing the kick. It's on him to kick the trash can.
Chest level would be safer.
