Gil C Yeah, you should. We started having earthquakes, well noticeable anyway, several years ago here in Oklahoma. So I was never used to it then all of a sudden. I would never live in California due to that. Well, other reasons too but mainly earthquakes. We already have tornadoes! Of course, there’s a running joke that when we hear the tornado siren we go outside & look at the sky. Lol I know I’m guilty of it but I’m 65 so I’ve had my whole life to be used to them.

I'm just amazed by how the Mexican people are able to get earthquake warnings over a minute in advance from it happening. Not even here in San Francisco, CA there's such a nice system that would save so many lives. I'm guessing part of the reason must be because my city is pretty much over the seismic fault so we are always the first ones to notice when earthquakes happen.

I've been to Mexico City a couple of times and as a matter of fact I was there visiting over a week ago, I was just chillin with a friend at my Airbnb having a beer then I heard that alarm in the distance. The funny thing is she was born and raised in Mexico City and I heard it before her. She told me to grab my phone and shoes and get the out of the building:I didn't even have time to put my shoes on just left with my socks lol. I was on the 4th floor so it was easy to get out to the street but hearing that damn alarm was nerve racking and a bit terrifying. Thankfully after a few minutes nothing had happened so no disaster story but boy was I on edge. I have experienced mild earthquakes in Nicaragua and Panama but nothing vicious like the kind that occur in Mexico City. I abosulutely love Mexico City but the earthquakes and the fact that can happen anytime keeps me from living there. Sometimes those alarms go off and it's an error but I'd rather not deal with that in my daily life. I know I sound like a softy lol. Outside of that it's such an amazing city.

TBH we can have an alarm system here at CDMX because we're far from the coast (where most of earthquakes originate), I guess in LA or SF is hard to build a similar alarm system being so close to San Andrés underground… crack? Pacific coast states in MX have it just like you there 😞

I wish we had alarms here in Los Angeles. I’m also happy y’all experienced it outside, when you’re inside everything is moving, lamps, dishes, furniture, TVs, everything it’s loud and so scary. You have no control and it’s so uncomfortable going back into a building after a quake.

Earthquake alerts are only acturate up to. Few seconds, maybe someday they can have it up to a minute. But these alarma are really more like, the buildings have a shaking sensor in them, which is set off and then it goess off for the area up to a certain amount, but due to its unpredictable nature. You cannot predict a quake before it happens, you can only continue to alert neighboring areas as soon as the sensors pick it up. Japan is the same, even these guyd admited they felt a small quake. Its the same for tsunamis as well. They have sensor devices placed all over the oceans that pick up sudden water movement and they become alerted back at the center and depending which sensors are set up in which areas and how much is set off they will know where it's going and how far. But the height of the wave to hit is not as easy to predict.

Nevertheless, you were at a very new and modern building, designed to resist much bigger earthquakes (unlikely to ever happen), meaning it will move like crazy, *precisely* to keep itself from breaking and falling down - it would be scary but you'd be pretty safe. Goyo, you handled it very well for you and your wife, that's how! Get this: strong and long as it was, there were ZERO victims and very little damage (in CDMX this is, I wonder of Oaxaca status…). Nothing worse than getting a tearful call from your child probably hundreds of miles away... That broke my heart. Glad everyone is ok.

Oh my gosh! How scary, I felt your fear! Thank God you're ok. Even though earthquakes are a part of life in Mexico I can't imagine anyone getting used to the terror. My sincerest thoughts of love and peace of mind to all. Love and light to you both and all affected.

I lived in El Salvador and LA and have gone trough small and big earthquakes. I think the fact the Mexico has an alarm system it's amazing, not even California has that system so if you ever have experience an earthquake Mexico City is the best place to be.

I remember this. My family and I were in our hometown in the state of Puebla for vacation on this day and we felt it all the way out there! It didn’t feel so strong because our hometown is around 4-5 hours away by car from Mexico City but it was still crazy to experience this especially since I was like 8 years old at the time

Now you have a complete Mexico City experience! An earthquake that strong after the September earthquakes surely made people even more on edge. Completely understandable reactions from people that haven't experienced that kind of thing. I remember at 4yrs old waking up in '85 to my father watching the destruction on television. Then my kindergartner school was closed for a couple of weeks while they made our classes walk to another affiliated school. Then the intermittent power outages and of course, the aftershocks. How much of that did you guys experience?
Then years later as more earthquakes happened, my schools had us trained to follow to exactitude the evacuation procedures. I remember a particular time my deskmate had a horrified look when one started, and we had to go from the third floor of the school to the schoolyard. Then blackouts and aftershocks.
Ah como exraño México, pero el DF más.
I am really loving this channel, these vlog videos, you guys are awesome! Thank you for making me experience my birth city through your eyes.

I’m from California so super used to earthquakes!! I was in the 89 SF earthquake that was crazy! Guy stayed really calm and that poor girl seemed like she was on edge of freaking out. I hate being in the city during earthquakes
