A lot of other performers often try to go too bombastic and get too show-off-y (and ends up going on too long for what this song is supposed to be). She honestly did this so well. (Edit) one of my favorite performances I’ve seen her do was her Sound Of Music tribute. It blew me away.

Having said that, they always have a pre-recorded back up in case something goes wrong. Weather, artist has a cold, sound mixing problems. Don't know why Whitney chose to lip synch, there weren't any external problems on the day.
Her musical studies are used meticulously. She can easily mix classical, jazz, RnB and rock.... ... There will be a genre called "Lady Gaga". It's quite amazing.

Rebecca, I remember being blown away when i heard this at the time. Its even more impressive once you've gone away and heard some of the real turkey national anthem performances.....that are all out there on You Tube to live forever.....and that is what also adds to this performance for me, its the total commitment Gagas shows, really stretching herself to the edge of her ability, knowing full well that there's a world of critics out there etc etc. Funnily enough, before this performance I had in my mind that Gaga wouldn't be a very patriotic sort...but having heard this i had a strong sense that she was really determined to do the anthem justice. Rebecca, I am new to your channel, but I am extremely impressed with your perspectives on all of your videos. There are a few things about this one that I wanted to say: 1) thank you for the respect you showed by listening to the song in its entirety before commenting, 2) at 8:21, Lady Gaga gets drowned out by the roar of the crowd when the troops in Afghanistan are shown, as she does the unique and AMAZING thing with the line of the song "that our flag was still there," continuing at D5 and going UP. That line was originally written for the singer to go DOWN, not UP. Only a handful of singers can even ATTEMPT, much less succeed, in doing that! Gaga NAILED it, but you have to go back and listen to her do it, and then listen to other talented singers who went down, like Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Aretha Franklin, and even Kelly Clarkson. Finally, 3) everyone on here speaks about Whitney Houston's 1991's Super Bowl version. They have their opinions, but Whitney's has been the best for the past 30 years, and it was sung the way it was written: with heart, pride, and pure joy. I hope that people on here don't try to compare those two incredible performances. It's like trying to decide which is better... a sunset at the beach or a sunset over the mountains. Both are beautiful, and can be appreciated and loved without disrespecting the other. Lady Gaga gave us an AMAZING performance of a very difficult song to sing, both with skill and patriotism! BUT, Chris Stapleton did it at this year's Super Bowl (2023) and left us all speechless, crying, reverent, grateful, awed... dearly as I love ❤ Lady Gaga and have only praise for her, Chris takes the top spot now. When he sang this year, players were crying. At the sports bar were I was watching, everyone was enraptured. I could hear whispers of, "Woowww." I saw mouths open, eyes wide, some of them with tears. When he ended, almost everyone burst into applause. I don't remember anything like it in my life. Rebecca, you must hear it.

You nailed it Rebecca! By far my favorite version of the national anthem ever. Gaga 1 Jennifer Hudson 2 and Whitney Houstons #3 but all 3 are in a league of there own. I must say Gagas version literally sent goosebumps down my spine like no other.

Ohhh, lawd...it's a very hard song to sing. You have to start it super low to end up in a decent part of your voice/ability. She nailed it and kept it classy. Too many singers showboat this one and ruin the moment. I love your analysis. I am learning so much from the videos you do. Thank you. And your whole affect is pretty hilarious at times.

I have a lot of respect for this song and I tend to cover my head with a pillow when I see somebody get up there chopping it up. So when I heard her start to sing it, I was pleasantly surprised. But I think my all time favorite rendition of this song was when Whitney Houston sang it at the 1991 Super Bowl. I don't know if you've watch that video, but. It's Whitney Houston #1 and lady Gaga #2 🥰

Rebecca, I am new to your channel, but I am extremely impressed with your perspectives on all of your videos. There are a few things about this one that I wanted to say: 1) thank you for the respect you showed by listening to the song in its entirety before commenting, 2) at 8:21, Lady Gaga gets drowned out by the roar of the crowd when the troops in Afghanistan are shown, as she does the unique and AMAZING thing with the line of the song "that our flag was still there," continuing at D5 and going UP. That line was originally written for the singer to go DOWN, not UP. Only a handful of singers can even ATTEMPT, much less succeed, in doing that! Gaga NAILED it, but you have to go back and listen to her do it, and then listen to other talented singers who went down, like Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Aretha Franklin, and even Kelly Clarkson. Finally, 3) everyone on here speaks about Whitney Houston's 1991's Super Bowl version. They have their opinions, but Whitney's has been the best for the past 30 years, and it was sung the way it was written: with heart, pride, and pure joy. I hope that people on here don't try to compare those two incredible performances. It's like trying to decide which is better... a sunset at the beach or a sunset over the mountains. Both are beautiful, and can be appreciated and loved without disrespecting the other. Lady Gaga gave us an AMAZING performance of a very difficult song to sing, both with skill and patriotism! Fantastic, and one of the best. BUT, Chris Stapleton did it at this year's Super Bowl (2023) and left us all speechless, crying, reverent, grateful, awed... dearly as I love ❤ Lady Gaga and have only praise for her, Chris takes the top spot now.
When he sang this year, players were crying. At the sports bar were I was watching, everyone was enraptured. I could hear whispers of, "Woowww." I saw mouths open, eyes wide, some of them with tears. When he ended, almost everyone burst into applause. I don't remember anything like it in my life.
