How to Play Half-Life 2 Mods from MODDB Through Steam

- I’ve had some requests on how this is done on a few of my mod retrospective videos so here's how to download and play half life mods from moddb through steam

Step 1. Make sure you have half life 1, 2 or the respective episodes installed for the mods to work.
Step 2. Make sure you have Source SDK Base 2006, 2007, and or 2013 installed, you can find it by clicking on your games tab, clicking on tools, then search "sdk base" to download them all.
Step 3. Download mods through moddb such as through the city, then drag and drop it into your sourcemods folder located in steam apps. Its important that this is dropped into your C drive or wherever steam is installed on your computer.
Step 4. restart steam and enjoy your mods!

I like this guy because another guy said you needed on the c file and he wanted me to put my Half-Life 2 download on the c file
Nothing I do seems to work, I downloaded entropy: zero uprising and I already had entropy: zero 1 and I did everything and it doesn’t show up. I also tried half life: echoes and it doesn’t work. I downloaded all sdk bases even the original half life one and nothing. I’ve done everything that was explained.

I have an external hard drive and had planned on installing all the games on the base drive where steam is. I thought I could get away with just installing the mods on the hard drive and playing it off there, but I guess not. Even tried to make a similar file in the same location but on the hard drive, but I might still try it.
I don't know why you said to have Half-Life 1 installed lol, you don't need it to install source mods. Aside from that this is a reliable guide, buut... YOU HAVE TO SET SDK SINGLEPLAYER 2013 TO BETA IN PROPERTIES

(Also it's kinda obvious but you have to "exit" steam in the top left dropdown menu, under 'steam' which will fully close it)

@@OfclOmega Hmm, well after putting them in your sourcemods folder and fully restarting steam SHOULD make them appear in your library alongside your other steam games. Otherwise I'm not sure sorry ):
is it normal if the source sdk base 2013 singleplayer has [upcoming] next to it?

ive been wanting to play uprising for a bit now but for whatever reason i havent been able to get it to work at all. everything seems to have installed right and i followed the steps from multiple tutorials trying to get things to work but so far it just refuses to show up in steam. the game does look really good though
Probably heard this before but it's a mod of entropy zero 1 so you would need that installed
It's not a mod of half life 2 so even if half life 2 and the episodes installed uprising won't show up in your library unless you install entropy zero 1 from the steam store as well
Same here. I absolutely cannot get this mod to work for some reason. Did you figure out a fix?
Have you set SDK 2013 to beta? (Oh and as MouldyFishSticks said, have Entropy Zero 1 installed)

You straight up lied my dude. I tried installing "Half-Life: Field intensity" your way by putting the extracted filles into the sourcemods folder, wich didn't work so I oppened the README. Turns out you have to put the extracted folder in the Half-Life folder wich worked perfectly!
Yeah I don't know why he included HL1 mods, it's a different process lol.
He didn't lie at all, that's how pretty much every half life 2 mod works. Your mod is for Half Life 1 and sometimes they have this weird way of installing it because it was not the same engine.

If you put all the files you want in Sourcemods, then just make sure SDK Singleplayer 2013 is set to Beta in properties.
@@MA_690 Does it, like, replace the vanilla HL2 weapons? Like a skin pack? If so, you have to create a custom folder in your base HL2 directory and put it there. It should work. Other than that I'm not sure.

But it seems to add weapon because this is a mw2019 weapon pack.

There is no sourcemods folder, I downloaded all the SDK's.
So I did this and it didn't show up in steam. I took all the files and folders out of the original folder it created when extracted and put them directly in the source mods folder and it shows up kind of as a black icon that says half life two and says it's a mod in the description (in my steam library) but when I click launch it says the game info.txt is the wrong type of file or something so I don't know wtf to do. I can tell I'm close but something is off because I followed these directions to the T

If it's for HL1, put it in Half-Life 1's main directory, not sourcemods.

make sure y'all are using the older build of hl or hl2 + required expansions, under properties of your games in ur steam library
Hello i just download half life for the first time trying to mod a character or skin to my game i follow everything noting happen
i followed the instructions yet it still didnt work
man, this all doesn't work. I couldn't find any files he was talking about. and now my morning is ruined, and I'm very disappointed.
i have done this before with MMOD and got rid of it to get another mod and it wont work and i did MMOD one more time but that wont work to
what about the anniversary Edition of Half life ? I heared that mods are no longer compatible with the new version of Half Life. Is that true ?

This is the most confusing worst freaking video I've ever seen On the subject
not only that I'm using Linux steamos, this video is useless as mods cannot be installed this way
