  • 89-key G4 Gavioli & Cie Fairground Organ plays "Death or Glory", a quick march written in 1895 by Robert Browne Hall, also known as "Tenth Regiment March". Arrangement by Kevin Meayers.
This magnificent Gavioli organ, Seriel No. 9085, plays today exactly as it would have done in 1905, using perforated cardboard read by an pneumatic action controlling air to the 400 pipes. There is also automatic percussion, and a 17 note glockenspiel.
The organ was installed in James Day's 3-abreast Gallopers in 1920, and was in showmans use with the ride until 1984. Previously owned by Chris Dobbs, I aquired the instrument in April 2021, and look forward to touring steam fairs and special events across England and Wales in due course (please contact me if you are interested in hiring it for your event - nick@fairgroundorgan.com)
If you're enjoying the music and wish to tip me towards the organ's maintenance and help fund new music for future videos, you can do so at: www.paypal.com/paypalme/jollity

How do 400 pipes, plus percussion and other gizmos, get operated by one card width?

@@fairorgan Let's put it this way. I've Audsley, both volumes, on the design and building of organs. But you've condensed what would be about 500 channels into around 20. What encoding's going on unpacking the book into windbox valves?
