@@bluu4208 but I did kinda spoil it didn't I? Sorry about that. Today's match was wild tho. It was like watching Guess the Elo Super GM edition
Spoilers ._. Couldn’t even make it full screen before it showed up
Started this match rooting for Nepo. But I love Ding’s willingness to utilize openings that aren’t “engine theory” to take his opponent out of their comfort zone. And honestly it’s just such a great underdog story. I’m a Ding fan now!
Ding! DING! Go Ding! Go!
I'm still rooting for Nepo, but seeing Ding bounce back is so insane. I'm happy just to watch crazy chess, to be honest.
@@Johnnyvtg Do you think either player will ever be right again? I mean the chances each has taken, the mental toll (Ian's second shot while Ding's play has been less than accurate), added to the uncertainty of ever returning to the Championship Board, has got to damage each of the players. I mean that once the confidence goes, (Fabi), you can still be a contender, but more likely a pretender. And then there is Magnus, so whichever player wins, there will always be an underlying question.
Same. I didn't even know who Ding was before this Championship, but now I'm a big fan and really hope that he can pull off the win.
The more I learn about his story, the more I like him.
He seems like such a likeable, honest, and humble guy.
@@whiskeybacon4581 I can hardly fathom the pressure he must be under. Disregard the political pressure of a government which not only controls your every move, has eyes on world dominice on every front.
I love how Fabiano described it. bishop d7 is like Nepo reached for the bishop and was trying to move it to g4, but felt a sudden urge to sneeze, causing him to drop it on d7
You know the WCC is exciting when Levy narrates the game like one of his 400 elo videos
He had me thinking Ding was toast, as we are not commentating on two 400elos. But you are right, the same type of commentary works here in the WCC. I really think Magnus is still better than these two, but this is the most exciting tourney I have seen in a good while. They are evenly matched, indeed.
@@minoc2 Yeah I feel like Magnus WCC matches tend to have a theme or quality of seeing how long a "bulletproof" approach works whereas this feels like a total slugfest. Very entertaining games and very interesting theoretical explorations.
@@minoc2 Magnus, Caruana, Karyakin a few others would beat both of these two with a big lead, but the fact its exacctly *these* two makes the match much more exciting because we don't actually know who will win.

I would agree that this is his best for THIS WCC, but game 6 of Magnus vs Nepo is still my favourite video of his
I envy you😢
“The king sees the horse though so it’s adorable” had me crying 9:45
What a match this has been so far! No matter who wins, I am grateful to Ding and Nepo for giving us so much excitement. I honestly don't know whom to root for anymore, they both deserve to be world champion.
When Ding blunders, the position can still be saved, but when Nepo blunders, it becomes completely hopeless in matter of ONE MOVE. Truly shocking.
If Ian had taken advantage of Ding's blunder he wouldve won. That's what the difference was this game.
This is a certified King's Pawn versus Queen's Pawn dynamic 💀 edit: I hadn't watched the game yet when I made this comment and realize now it makes almost zero sense given the game itself lmao.
Ian is obviously a very strong player, but he has some of the most baffling blunders in the world championships. He'd be crushing Ding if it weren't for just bizarre mistakes
@@12jswilson maybe ge got paid for losing this match :D
Yeah Ian has been insanely impressive but this f5 move blows my mind. I haven't seen the post game interview but I have to wonder if he just somehow missed Rxe6 or if he somehow misevaluated it because it seems like a two/three move threat that I'd have imagined was very much on his radar.
Damn, these last Guess the Elo episodes are damn good Levy. Mad respect to you and also to video donators.

@@genericyoutubeaccount579 This is clearly a low 800 vs a high 700
I never thought I’d see the day where a chess video would be on top 5 for trending on gaming. Great content.
Levy, your analogies to different sports moments, in this case, MMA, is something I greatly appreciate; especially the Weidman spinning wheel kick that led to his demise, that was perfect.
This was heartbreaking for Ian especially after blundering away a winning advantage of -2 but at the same time huge props to Ding for finding such a innovative counterplay.
it was -2 then it was +2 then it was drawn then it was +6 lol
Same thing happened to Ding a few matches ago. As a neutral, this is exciting. But i imagine if you have a preference, either Ding or Ian, heart attacks all over
counterplay come from nepo. nepo beat Ian
Ding spent ~1 minute on each of those blunders, and when he eventually played the best move it was still only 1:10 on the move. I’m not really sure if he found it or if he lucked onto it ngl
@@Ramin2340 Yes, but Ding should never have had the +2 eval unless Nepo blunders a winning position. If he didn't rush to make his moves like usual for no reason at all, there's no way Ding even had a sniff in this. Ian was the one with the massive initiative and was playing brilliantly up until the blunder. Ian threw this game and probably the title. Complete choke.
If Ding intentionally makes mistakes to confuse Ian out of his prep that would be 900 iq

I’m just happy to see it get back to tied. I just want to see both players have strong moments so whoever loses can seem like they at least put up a good fight
As exciting as the individual games of this wcc have been, I just can’t imagine Magnus missing anywhere near as many winning moves as these two have.
I think that's the great part of Magnus no longer competing at the WCC, he was too dominant, too clean. While I love watching his mostly flawless games, they're cold and efficient. These games have been hot and chaotic at the highest level, and it's so refreshing to watch
Yes but ding and nepo are more relatable. So we love ding and nepo ❤. Hope ding wins
@@boxofcans461 same
The funny thing is Magnus is a pretty cool guy in everyday life, but on the chess board, he's a cold, murder machine. He's like invincible. Whereas these two guys actually look human and relatable
Please just stop talking
Honestly more impressive to me is the relative sportsmanship of both players, actually sitting and analyzing some positions from the game afterward. Sadly incredibly rare at such a high level. Almost sucks that this can’t be a drawn world champion. Some back and forth Rocky type stuff going on here. And we won’t know who Rocky was until it’s all over.
Quality title action - Excellent fighting analogies. Set everybody up. I saw the result at work and was eager to see the analysis - and even knowing the outcome you had me doubting.
Why doesn’t ding take nepos rook with his bishop after moving his queen to c3 16:31

this is one of the best videos i've ever seen. the way he metaphorically describes the game is insanely accurate
That get outta here at the end was so seamless
That was absolutely catastrophic for Ian. What an insane match
Ding is showing absolute resilience throughout this match. After coming back this game and dealing with leaked prep, I have to give tons of props to him
Nah, if anything Ding should thank Nepo. That man is a master at throwing away games. He is so good at it, it's like an art in itself.
This was an entertaining video on Levy’s part; the bazooka bit and boxing discussions and physical demonstrations were very amusing
Absolutely loving this WC. I feel like this is what this match should be like always. Perfectly played games that end in draws gets really old really quick. Games where GMs get pushed to the end of their ropes and start making massive blunders with decisive victories going both ways? That's how you get people to watch and care about the match. Nothing against Ian but I'm onboard the Ding hype train. Dude plays some wild games of chess that are just fun to watch.

This game was beautiful, tragic, wild, hopeful, disastrous, confusing, heartbreaking, amazing, and so much more! I'm so glad we're going to get at least 14 games in this championship!
So many adjectives for one game of chess, it’s truly quite lovely to see so many so passionate about a chess WC
The acting in the first half was fantastic, for the first time it really fooled me and I really thought Ian was gonna win
His boxing 🥊 when he was talking about hockey fights lol😂
This was also the very first Chess world championship match that I followed live. It was exciting and really fun to see live! A completely different feel than watching these recaps of just the game, because the camera on the players gives it a whole different feeling. Watching them mentally break down. BUT I was also really hyped for the GothamChess recap because so many crazy things happened in this game. I kept thinking: What would Levy think about this? I love how you perfectly sold the disapointment when Ding was losing, I was alredy sad about it, all the way to the end
we need to revisit this match sometime in the future in "Guess the Elo" episode
Jan kept the right hand low and Ding landed that Leon kick at the end, man what a roller coaster of a game
The Beauty of the blunders and when ding FINALLY played a good move and win
Ding did absolutely what he needed to do. Nepomniatchchi wanted to draw this game - and playing conventional stuff would put him in confort zone. If game 12 ended in a draw, he would've just needed to secure a draw in game 13 to be crowned world champion.
So Ding came and did a completely chaotic non sensical opening. He played, a bit like Magnus, aggressive moves that weren't ideal, that often put him in a disadvantage. But those moves made Nepomniatchchi completely stuck : he had to find only one move in a lot of positions - every other moves were losing right on the spot. He often found them as they weren't complicated, but you only need one miss, one moment where you miscalculated a sequence of moves, and this changes everything.
I'm certain Rapport helped Ding with the mindset he needed for game12, and that payed off. He tried everything and was rewarded !
Now, the entire World Championship will be decided on only two games : Nepomniatchchi with white on game 1, Ding with white on game 2. This is sensational, what a crazy world championship we're witnessing
To be fair, a draw today and a draw tomorrow would have left Nepo on 7 points, not 7.5. So he would have still needed a draw or better in game 14 to win. If Nepo would have won today, he'd only need a draw in game 13.
Having Rapport as second is the best thing Ding could ask for, the man's creativity combined with Ding's accuracy and brilliant moments in middle game is unbeatable
I agree, but the move he missed is seriously dire, not something a player of his calibre should ever miss
Bro is acting like thiss is some ding masterclass chess wise or pschyology wise
25 moves in ian was clearly winning with black but lost only due to5 blunders
Not becauze he couldnt find the best move
Ok
"Pogo-sticks to the stars!!!" Best quote.
The simple explanation is that someone paid them both to play "Never let them know your next move"
“I’m like 300 Elo in boxing” beautiful analogy levy
This entire match has been a rollercoaster, and that feels like an understatement. Whoever wins this at the end, massive respect to both of them.
This might be your most exciting recap yet. Thanks for doing such a great job telling the story of this game.
I think the highlight of this match was seeing gotham do some sort of shadow realm boxing
I love Levi's imitation of a hockey fight.
9:35 funny thing about this is that horses literally see like that, totally blind to what's right in front of their super long snoot
missed opportunity to say "rooket launcher" on 12:39
I was watching this live and everyone's reactions were so fun to watch lol
The commentators were so surprised because they themselves had already looked at the line beforehand and dismissed it as losing right away so they couldn't believe Ian had played it.
The chat went wild because they saw the eval bar sky rocket.
Ding looked at Ian like, what are you thinking?
Ian was so devastated and angry at himself. So sad even though I was cheering for Ding :/
Thank you Magnus Carlsen for being the proprietor sponsorship for this amazing championship.
This is definitely better than watching Magnus smoke either of them lol
@@Icannottolerateit 'Smoke'? Carlsen actually had a pretty difficult time against Nepo at the last championship until Nepo started to blunder after game 6. At this level it's all about willpower rather than actual ability to calculate. It's not actually that complicated to compute chess moves, everyone can see the best moves when they're not playing. Since Carlsen isn't motivated, even if he were to play at this match he'd just loose since he has no motivation.
@@CNFrostXY If he would play, he would prepare. So he would not lose. There is still not a single chess expert in the world assuming they are stronger than Magnus. He just stepped down because he does not want to prep after 10 years of prep. He would have smoked Ian again, everyone knows it. You can actually see the mental weakness of Ian in all the games. Having so many decisive games means they struggle hard, making mistakes. So if you really believe Magnus would lose against this blunder fest called WC, then you have not a single clue about chess xD The only reason why it is entertaining to watch, is because they are making so many mistakes, resulting in decisive games.
@@CNFrostXY Ian had never been close to a winning position vs Magnus
