Hey! We have a similar practice in Bulgaria (and in Eastern Europe) when it comes to choosing names for a child. Obviously, we don't have a special Jewish name (because we are mostly Christian) but the principle is similar - giving names of relatives (usually grandparents) or names that start with the same letter. We actually have a whole system of naming so all grandparents are included. It's kinda complicated . . .
Love your videos and learning about your culture. It's very interesting. :)

Awesome video! I'm starting my journey about learning about Jewish culture/language and I would like a little help here in understanding something about a baby name, please...
Eliana - El (God) I/Yudh (My) Ana (Favor/Answered)
    "My God has answered me."
Elana - El (God) Ana (Answered)
Would this be a right translation?
I know "Elan" means, "Tree" and so I find "Elana" has the same translation and I don't understand how when "El" means "God" and "Ana" means, "Favor/Answered". Please help!

Great video but small correction: Not all Jews from Iran/Iraq/north African countries came from Iberia and are therefore not Sephardi. Mizrahi is the better term.

We gave our son a Jewish/Biblical name, but it was completely accidental. We just wanted a name that sounded good in both our native languages. My father-in-law, who is himself Jewish, was never too keen on typically Jewish names, but he got used to it in the end.

03:38 I am a little bit confused with that Name.. I really like it but.. Because I also know a Song that is called "Shnei Shoshanim". And sometimes it is said, that it means two Roses and sometimes it is said, that it means two Lilies.. So now I am a little bit confused with that Name.. / Meaning.. Does it mean Lily or Rose??

    • @MyJewishMommyLife
