Yayyy another excellent vid my friend, i did the same a while back with the mini3 and my old mavic air, quite surprised by the results. The old air, although does struggle with reception did a cool job picture quality wise. The feature that allows you to alter sharpness, contrast etc in the settings would have been a cool feature to carry over onto the mini series. Anyhow, well done buddy, again another cool video.

@@TedNemeth ... flying at night was a totally different "pair of galoshes". I was almost a 1 km away. I was not able to center between the steeples my mini3pro. Maybe it was windy there. What I saw on the controller/joys sticks/drone position could not be synchronized. That was disorienting enough to abort further dives. But... o my... returning to a pitch-dark/trees around spot with a non drone light... that put my heart in my throat. I finally opted for the auto RH until I could hear it. A good few minutes it took me to manually land on my palm. A good lesson to plan a night flight a little differently. mini3pro lens however handles the low light so much better than my mini2, I am smitten.
Creative exchanges is for sure my favorite currency, as you so elegantly named it.
@@architektura204 - i use the auto RTH function the majority of the time, day & night. Especially when the battery is low, i don’t want to wander in the wrong direction home.
Well it sounds like you got a nice little adrenaline spike during your night flight! Those are always fun, …especially when they’re aren’t followed with a bill, a crash, or an arrest.
@@TedNemeth ha ha ha... so far the only arrest is a heart arrest. I challenge myself to manually return home as much as I can. Only when low battery or a total confusion of my location I do reach for RH, but as soon as I get my bearings, I switch to manual to keep working on the muscle memory and the eye coordination as much as I can since so much is happening during the flight. My mini 3's map is horrible. I basically can't rely on it. Is yours working the same as on mini 2 ? (which is very helpful).
This was a fantastic video and really cemented the fact that when I upgrade my Air2 it will be to the Mini3 Pro! I managed to get 4 of the 5. The orbit got me, though I did think the autoexposure on A was smoother, I liked the overall quality of B slightly better so I couldn't make up my mind. BTW, thanks for the bonus screen saver lmao!

Nice compartion Ted and right on time. I was about to consider buying one more drone for more stable shots as the dji fpv is nice its cool but its not stable enogh. It has FPV blood in its cables. Thanks for your awsome videos.

Did you reupload this challenge? In my opinion the Mini 2 can still compete with the Mini 3, especially with a bit of postprocessing. However, the low light performance of the Mini 3 camera is much better and I guess the dynamic range is, too. Great video, Ted. I love your style.🤘💪

This little beast is awesome and your explanation steps are super clear and easy to follow ! I got Mini 3 Pro version and found out that quick action shots and master videos don't have option in D Cinelike mode ;/ which makes it hard to mix and match them on the same timeline with my regular 4k videos I make flying manually ..which sucks :/ do you think that can be realistic to happen in the future or is there any easier workaround ? Or I should just in that case put everything in Normal video mode and rock it that way lol with minimum touch up on gamma and saturation /contrast levels : ) Thank you for taking your time and keep up great work!

I have a mini 2 and was considering upgrading to the mini 3 but as you stated is it really worth it money wise! Especially in #2 where I thought B was the best picture and turned out to be the mini. Slightly better night exposure in #5 for the mini 3 , but I am now not convinced it deserves the upgrade, just for obstacle avoidance and a few updates! Its the same with my mavic 2 pro, why would I pay a fortune for the Mavic 3! Seems many videos on here are conning us and obviously sponsored by DJI! I suggest you invest in an older model and just have as much fun and save your hard earned cash!
I also have mini 2 and it helped me to answer correctly all the challenges... The #2 was more sharply and contrasted with the mini 2 but that's what auto settings do I guess, maybe the main point is when you go for manual and edition capabilities of the footage. PS: I also have the Air 2s so for me no need to upgrade at all

Mini 3 is much better at low-light, can't bear all the noise and low shadow details on the mini 2. For footage it's basically useless.
I think in #2 A is a much better picture, just look at the dynamic range.

@TedNemeth, thank you very much for comparison! Are you sure, that Challenge #1 footage "A" is from Mini 2? There are much more detail in low light conditions. Maybe footage "A" is from Mini 3 though?
Good review, thanks. Based on this evidence I won't be upgrading any time soon. I think the most benefit will be for photographers going from a 12MP camera to 48MP.

I have to many DJI birds lol. But, and i could tell the diff between the two drones..Mini 3 looks great. So does the mini 2.. It was color for me that helped me determine between the two. Mini 3 Pro for the win lol.

#4 was by far the easiest, those green discs drive me mad.
Mini 3 has some really serious shortcomings.
Overall I'm not entirely impressed with the Mini 3 or the RC, its not as good or "Pro" as I had hoped.
So many things don't work properly, if at all.

Nice comparo! The Mini 3p did edge out the Mini 2 except for the nighttime shots but it wasn't by that much. I was kinda surprised. I don't feel pressured as much to get the Mini 3p as much as before since I do own the Mini 2 now (and Air 2s).

The Air 2s is my ultimate drone. That would be my number 1 choice but since I travel constantly size and weight are most important.

Man, I got 3 right but abstained from two of them. I figured the bigger sensor would make the bridge farther away in #1. I had no idea in #2 or 3. In test #4, there was definitely more detail in the Mini 3's low light footage. Sorry Mini 2, but you did look sharper. Mini 3 definitely looked better in #5. Fantastic test, Ted. Makes me glad I didn't run out and get the Mini 3 right away when it came out. Maybe I can hold out for a Mini 4? 🤣

I had the Mini 2 since the day it was released and I am definitely its #1 fan. The only reason I bought the M3P was to review it for the channel. It has a bunch of little luxuries, but the 4k footage is 99.9999% the same.
I just looked at which I think looked best, not guessing which drone did better. Funny, all of my choices that I thought were better were all Mini 3. Mini 2 suffered a bit in every single one of them. I have the Mini 2. If this isn't motivation to upgrade to the Mini 3 or 4. I don't know what is? Thank you for the video. The 3rd clip was the closest out of all your tests.

I still use my mini 2 sometimes over my mavic 3 or Air2s for curtain shots…the camera has its own unique look that gives a great dynamic
hey my flying filmmaker friend! I LOVE my Mini 2. I actually fly it more than my Mini 3 Pro. So I asked the community on my channel if they have a Mini 2 AND a more expensive drone….which they fly the most. It was unanimous. The Mini 2 gets the most flight time.

When i had mini 2, there are 2 things that i hope are better, 1. Dynamic range. 2. Bigger aperture lens. Mini 3 improved on these 2 and also have bigger and better sensor. I hope pocket 3 will use this sensor with f1.4 lens for better low light performance.
Looks as though the Mini 3 has a slightly narrower field of view, so wonder if that could show up as a negative when stability is tested to the limit - or is the Mini 3 slightly more stable?
Hi Robert! I did some very slight cropping to most of the footage just to ensure a similar field of view between the two shots. Because it’s impossible to put both drones in the exact same spot in sky. So to ensure a real visual side-by-side comparison……i had to do some slight crops to most of the footage. Make sense? What is the actual field of view on each? good question. I’m sure its on the DJI website. A few degrees matter. Just move the drone a few feet back or forward. Thanks for watching Robert!

I only guessed #4 and #5, it was obvious because the Mini 3 has a larger dynamic range.

The 3rd test was obvious, because you held the CR controller with screen which is not compatible with dji mini 2 😅 but great test! In the 2nd challenge I like more the moni 2 shot.

when used correctly (you've seemed to actually expose the best of the bunch of vids i just watched) the differences seem super insignificant except in the night shot. the mini 2 looks like trash there but in the low light shot it actually looks better than the 3. i actually thought that A was the 3 cause it looked more crisp and I was able to see more shadow detail. that would be the darkest that I intend to fly at for now so the mini2 might end up in my kit soon
you nailed it. When you get exposure right (auto exposure!) these two drones basically have the same 4k. I know the specs are slightly different, but in the real world, the actual video is virtually the same, even in low light as all my tests have proven. But at night, no contest. The Mini 3 is stunning at night. I really love it.

Funny thing, in all but last my favorite was the mini 2. The 3 did better at night. Still very happy with my mini 2. And with the Maven app I get some of those track and follow me features that the DJI app doesn't give me.

is this your first drone? If it is your first drone I would highly recommend getting a used Mini 2. Seriously. I have a Mini 2 & Mini 3 Pro and I actually use my Mini 2 more often. The 4k video is the same. MUCH less stress when flying it. Less stress = more fun. But if you are a very rich person and money is no problem….then get the Mini 3.
3 pro has a slightly longer focal length lens (not really a pro if youd ask me), with warmer tint (“reddish”, even), and lets more light in. I could see the differences but good vid anyway.
thank yo for watching and sharing. You mentioned the M3P has a bit warmer tint…..I take your word for it. My eyes are pretty weak when it comes to slight shades & tints. What’s your preferred drone?
@@TedNemeth they get better and better with every new model/version! So I’d prefer the latest and greatest. But haven’t got the $ (or € to be exact) so I got me the 2 SE. I’m not a professional photographer/videographer. Just for holiday and hobby use. It’s the perfect beginner’s drone!

@@vllssv - hey my friend! Your question is how to make the night footage of the Mini 2 better? Well….. the issue is the noise. First try to darken the shadows in editing. And any areas that are close to completely black will now be completely black. This is called “crushing the blacks”. That will help a little in some cases. The other option is to try some de-noise programs. I haven’t tried any but I know they do work in some cases.

hey Lip. All of my testing shows the Mini 2 and Mini 3 are almost identical in low light. The Mini 3 is a little better at night, with less noise in the complete black. But in low light I find them the same.
I'm literally in a situation right now where I am considering these 2 drones. I'd have to say, the M2 holds its own. But it looked like the 3 was a Pro? No?
Anyway, I think for me, aside from vertical shooting, there is little reason to go 3. If I do, might as well get the pro for added features of that drone. I don't care much for the RC controller with the screen, so that makes no difference to me.

@@TedNemeth I have a Mavic Mini since 2021, and I love it! Honestly, for my use, I don't need a much fancier camera than what it has, but it might be nice to be able to do prints of nice photos once in a while. I would upgrade mostly for a better flying drone with stronger motors and better connection, which the Mini 2 does have. Only reason not to go for a 2 is because 3 series I guess are newer tech and will be supported longer into the future.
I'm still confused, is it worth the extra money for the mini 3 over the mini 2 and same for the controller and is the 2 se still relevant

@@TedNemeth yes my first drone but I don't want to buy cheap buy twice. I wanna buy to last a few years at least but also not sure the controller is worth the extra money really. I want it for hobby, CZcams, holidays & possible tv shoots if they need a drone I can step in and earn more money

@@TedNemeth its not huge amount but its isa bit to pay for a drone. dpi are selling the 3 for 20 more than the 2 at the minute but I'm not sure if its worth it and if the new controller is worth It either.
@@FamousJames - Here is my opinion: Get a Mini 2 on sale. I have the Mini 2 and the Mini 3 Pro. I honestly fly my Mini 2 more. It’s the exact same 4k video. (Except at night where the Mini 3 is a little cleaner). I LOVE my Mini 2. The convenience of the RC controller with the built in screen is quite nice though. But don’t think the Mini 3 is a much better drone over the Mini 2. It’s just small spec bumps. I am not thrilled with the Active Track modes in the Mini 3 Pro. Rarely use them because they’re so frustrating. The “Obstacle Avoidance” system in the Mini 3 Pro DOES NOT WORK in Sport mode. It does NOT have side sensor! It will NOT detect small branches and cable/power lines, etc. Trust me I know. BOTTOM LINE: I suggest finding a Mini 2 on sale with the standard controller. BUT…if a few hundred dollars won’t kill you,….then get the Mini 3 Standard with the RC controller. It has a bunch of little luxuries that are nice, but don’t actually make the footage better.
I was basing my answers on what I thought was the better over all image quality. Its certainly a close tie but the D-cine advantage to me would be a takeaway in all the scenes if you're into post editing

Personally I don’t see any advantage to D-CineLike, meaning no actual additional dynamic range, after going through all the steps to properly restore the colors and exposure. This is because D-CineLike is not a true LOG profile. It’s not desaturated enough. But this is subjective and that’s just my opinion after a bunch of my own testing.
@@TedNemeth Right! There is a fair difference with the mini 4's D-Log I find, when I upgrade I'll likely get that. Just a bit pricey for me right now
1 through 4 were so close I actually got 1 and 2 wrong. The clincher was 5 because the difference was immediately noticeable and one was definitely better. But they both looked amazing. Making my decision even harder on whether the few hundred extra is really worth spending on the 3 vs the 2.
Hey buddy! Yup I think the footage is almost identical except for total dark night shots. Which for me is only about 3% of my flights.

@@TedNemeth Not yet. Still deciding. Best Buy has refurb Fly More sets for the Mini 2 for $390 or the Mini 3 for $615. The only real sway toward the Mini 3 is that kit comes with the RC controller with the built in screen.
@@Nozoki - i tell ya…that RC controller really is a nice touch. I actually prefer the controller upgrade much more than the Mini 2 to Mini 3 upgrade. Your decision all comes down to money. Is $200 a massive amount of money to you? I kinda think you should go with the Mini 3, mainly because of the controller! I have both drones and actually fly my Mini 2 more. Note to viewers. Make sure CZcams settings have 1080p or whatever your screen can do. I'm on a PC and the stupid interface defaulted to 360p and I was wondering why the video looked so bad for both! It's just CZcams! Make sure your app resolution settings are high!

I just ordered the Mini 2 fly more combo as it was on sale, $400 CDN cheaper then the Mini 3 . Mini 3 in my opinion and by looking at your footage is not worth $400 more. Thanks for the video !
Darren you won’t find a bigger advocate for the Mini 2. I love mine. I honestly fly my Mini 2 more than my Mini 3. It’s the same 4k video during the day and in low light. The Mini 3 is definitely better at night. But I only fly at night about 5% of the time.

hey Rob! thanks for watching. I own both the Mini 2 and Mini 3 and I couldn’t see any difference in the footage in clips 1 through 4. The night time clips are obvious. But I’m not sure how anyone can honestly say clips 1 through 4 look better or worse than each other. I filmed them and I couldn’t tell them apart!
@@TedNemeth hello, Ted. Great video. Well, I can't agree with you. All shots are easy to guess where mini 3 is. You did a great test. Mini 3 is far better, but if you know where the weakness are, you can put mini 2 at mini 3 level. Thanks a lot. Cheers.
looks like the mini 2 has better color during teh day but exposure at failing light and no light is worse than the 3 but overall the 2 looked better. Weird right? lol
hey buddy! It’s my opinion that the 4k footage isn’t better or worse. To my eye it’s 99.99% the same. The night footage from the Mini 3 is obviously cleaner. But the low light and day time shots are identical. Certainly a tiny edit and they could look exactly the same.
Mini 3 won. I had challenge 1 a tie, the next 3 I had A and the final I had B so Mini 2 has got to go.

I had a chance once to fly a mini 2 and it was awsome. The main thing stoping me from buying one right now is fact that where i live 600 dollars or less for a used one is a lot of money, but i am hoping to get one for christmas😁
Do it! Buy a Mini 2. You will absolutely love it. It’s definitely a bit nervous for the first several weeks. But that goes away pretty quickly and becomes a lot more fun. Then you can start to engage your creativity. PLEASE tag me in your videos. Would love to follow along. @@razershark5841

The difference was pretty clear to me on all comparisons, the mini 3 looks quite a lot better...
Really? Except for the night footage they look identical. Can you explain what exactly you see from the Mini 3 footage that makes it better?
@@TedNemeth To me it was a combination of the FPS or smoothness, the image quality itself in some cases, and dynamic range.
#1 - The dynamic range is pretty visible, the mini 2 just looks much more 'flat' to me.
#2 - That tricked me tbh, because the colors on the mini 2 actually looks better to me, but then I looked at the smoothness of the walking, and it was pretty clear which is which.
#3 - It comes down again to the smoothness, both look pretty identical, and maybe even the mini 2 with better colors, but still the smoothness.
#4 - The dynamic range here is super noticeable and easy to spot.
#5 - Pretty much some of everything, colors, dynamic range, smoothness, it's pretty clear here :)

Mini 3 let's in more light.
the Mini 3 has cleaner footage at night, but don’t you think the day time and sunset footage look identical? I couldn’t tell them apart. I encourage people to stop looking at specs and start looking at the ACTUAL real- world footage comparison.
@Ted Nemeth I could tell the mini 3 in that one at sunset as there was more light and less shadow. Close though.
@Ted Nemeth Daytime yes it looked like the warmth had more purple or pink in it in the 3. The 2 had more greens.

I will stick to my mini 2. Seems just about fine. Not much difference. In some situations it looks better than mini 3

I totally agree! That 4k footage is pretty much identical, except for night shots obviously. I still take my Mini 2 on professional shoots frequently. As long as you get your exposure correct, the quality is amazing. Do you have the Mini 2?

they are 95% the same drone. They take EXACTLY the same 4k video.

yes! thank you for watching Lauris. I love my Mini 2. The only reason I got a Mini 3 was so I could create content for this channel. I did not buy the Mini 3 because of the little spec bumps.
