I may be the only one who holds this view, but it's nice to hear someone use the word "extant" without stomping on the second syllable.

Marcus Aurelius is the immortal nihilist. His timeless thoughts keep flowing past like twigs in an endless stream of time.

marcus aurelius wasn't a nihilist, he was a stoic.

The bias against looking at "old stuff" in psychology is why we keep rediscovering the same phenomena over and over again and giving them new names. Also making the same old mistakes again.

Hadrian's villa sounds like Washington DC or Hollywood. I think this current decadence in our society in the US is why stoicism is ringing true with the public today as a path forward. The Gladiator movie was creating a vision of hope that our system can be changed by good men and sacrifice. When I saw the farm and home of the main protagonist in Gladiator burned for political reasons, I immediately thought of the Waco compound being burned to the ground for political differences.
I was trained in architectural engineering school to be an interdisciplinary engineer, i.e. respecting the contribution of other professions. Most disciplines don't do this and create the false belief system that their profession has all the best people and all the answers. Trust me, this is a huge problem in the legal profession since most lawyers are English majors who think magic words can magically change reality like in a Harry Potter movie. Saad and Robertson interdisciplinary approach puts them heads and shoulders above other professions in their contribution to society.

Awesome interview. Disappointed that you didn't use the word "orgiastic" when you had the ultimate contextual opportunity to do so. But why waste the word on Roman orgies when you can use it on politics and woke culture lol. Much Love Sir.

One major failing of the perhaps best emperor Marcus Aurelius, was the raising of his son Commodus to be one of the worst emperors.

Darwin and others like him changed the language of philosophy or created a different host of catalysts. To the ancients it was the gods but to the modern thinkers it is hormones or chemicals. Just a bit of a side step as the conversation evolves.

There is no such thing as an original thought. It’s all been said and done before any of us came along.
