Saw this whole debate, this was the only time I've seen Galloway take a beating, what a loss for Britain Hitchens was, really needed him these last 10 years.
I remember seeing Galloway taken to pieces on Question Time (a BBC panel show for those who don't know) by David Lammy of all people. Ian Hislop also gave him some stick on Have I Got News For You (a BBC satire show). Lest we forget, this is the same man who entered the Celebrity Big Brother house dressed as a cat on national TV, and publicly taunted a former alcoholic about his addiction. A vile odious man.

I have mixed feelings about both Galloway and Hitchens. I've always admired Hitchens for his wit, eloquence, culture and fabulous critiques of religion, whilst being unhappy that he supported the Iraq war. Galloway's historic speech to the US Senate Committee was breathtaking in its eloquence and courage, but there is no doubt that he has always harboured hatred of Israel and been frankly complicit with Islamists. Hitchens was a righteous Islamosceptic, as all critically thinking people should be, whilst Galloway remains, dangerously, not nearly Islamosceptic enough.
Well written. I totally agree, and with the same manner of fair balance with which you respect and critique each of these men. Two admirable, if not great, yet imperfect men, both blinded to a severe degree in specific aspects of their thinking.

The difficulty with voting for the Conservatives is that they've allowed all this to happen on their watch, with the more muscular voices on this issue like Suella's being demoted. I have been expecting clips of this debate to start surfacing again, however I have to say that I think it is in incredibly poor taste to slap a "vote conservative" sign on screen at the end. I can remember Hitch had more than a few things to say about Tories as well.

A vast number of the votes for Galloway in Rochdale were postal votes some say 10K+. Labour Party vastly expanded the right postal votes because Muslims did not allow women to vote. This meant their husband could vote for them and in Muslim communities in the UK the head of the family votes for the whole family. This is worth remembering because I was presiding officer on elections for 20 years and in that time I had just two postal votes they were that rare Now thanks to Labour's "reforms" postal votes are carried into polling stations literally by the box full. They did this "reform" to secure their Muslim vote and now it's turned round and bitten them on the backside. Serves them right. There are tales that they are actually marked up in the mosque all I would say is it's possible and if it is happening you can be sure the msm won't report it
I agree with you that postal votes are a disaster and we should be looking to abolish them. There are no checks and no way of confirming that ballots have been cast fairly. This was a big problem in Peterborough a few years back, where there is also a large Muslim population. Thanks for pointing it out. Galloway might still have won, but he likely wouldn't have won so big if everyone, except disabled and those absent from the constituency for some valid reason, were required by law to turn up at the polling station in order to cast their vote.

However he adds that he supports the right of Gazans to elect Hamas if that were their democratic will. I wonder if he would concede the same degree of democratic freedom to a white working class constituency who felt that an anti-immigration party best represented their interests. On the contrary, if Galloway had the power to do so I'm confident that he would make populist anti-immigration parties in the UK illegal, whilst at the same time endorsing the rights of Hamas, who have genocidal intentions towards any sovereign Jewish presence in the area, to seek and win electoral office if Palestinians should desire it. Not that Hamas needs to bother with any more hustings, of course - after all, they got elected in 2005 and then decided elections were no longer required. I acknowledge Galloway's charisma and courage in opposing the Iraq debacle, but I have absolutely no illusions about him otherwise.

I have been expecting clips of this debate to start surfacing again, however I have to say that I think it is in incredibly poor taste to slap a "vote conservative" sign on screen at the end. I can remember Hitch had more than a few things to say about Tories as well.

A vast number of the votes for Galloway in Rochdale were postal votes some say 10K+. Labour Party vastly expanded the right postal votes because Muslims did not allow women to vote. This meant their husband could vote for them and in Muslim communities in the UK the head of the family votes for the whole family. This is worth remembering because I was presiding officer on elections for 20 years and in that time I had just two postal votes they were that rare
Now thanks to Labour's "reforms" postal votes are carried into polling stations literally by the box full. They did this "reform" to secure their Muslim vote and now it's turned round and bitten them on the backside. Serves them right.
There are tales that they are actually marked up in the mosque all I would say is it's possible and if it is happening you can be sure the msm won't report it
I agree with you that postal votes are a disaster and we should be looking to abolish them. There are no checks and no way of confirming that ballots have been cast fairly. This was a big problem in Peterborough a few years back, where there is also a large Muslim population. Thanks for pointing it out. Galloway might still have won, but he likely wouldn't have won so big if everyone, except disabled and those absent from the constituency for some valid reason, were required by law to turn up at the polling station in order to cast their vote.

You can find many 10 year old videos with lots of conservatives spouting different stuff than they do today. If he has done anything at all it must be to realise the electorate put him there and attacking him deflects from conservatives inadequacy.

As much as I distrust Galloway, anything or anyone who dents the one party set-up we have at present as a pretence for democracy is to be appplauded, at least in the short term.
Without a single actual physical punch being thrown Galloway looks likes like he's done 15 rounds with Tyson at the end! That weird blushed pinched look on his face is so wonderful to see.
I miss Hitchens
George Galloway has admitted to supporting Arafat and the PLO, but says he would never have voted for Hamas. However he adds that he supports the right of Gazans to elect Hamas if that were their democratic will.
I wonder if he would concede the same degree of democratic freedom to a white working class constituency who felt that an anti-immigration party best represented their interests. On the contrary, if Galloway had the power to do so I'm confident that he would make populist anti-immigration parties in the UK illegal, whilst at the same time endorsing the rights of Hamas, who have genocidal intentions towards any sovereign Jewish presence in the area, to seek and win electoral office if Palestinians should desire it. Not that Hamas needs to bother with any more hustings, of course - after all, they got elected in 2005 and then decided elections were no longer required.
I acknowledge Galloway's charisma and courage in opposing the Iraq debacle, but I have absolutely no illusions about him otherwise.

There isn’t a lot I find myself agreeing with Christopher Hitchens on, but this is one of the exceptions.
Hitchens was a bright enough bloke....but he did not get the big picture at all.
